Around Azeroth Beta Edition: Have fun storming the castle
I can almost feel bad for the Alliance in Cataclysm. The beautiful entrance to their city has been scorched and ruined by that angry reptile Deathwing. (And don't kid yourself, Hordies, it's not the same for you -- Orgrimmar was never exactly a masterpiece of architecture.) But after looking in the lower right corner of this picture, my sympathy was cut short. You hung up the head of Deathwing's kid at the gates? What did you expect was going to happen? (Thanks to Raven of <Spirits of Durotan> on Arygos [US-A] for the screenshot.)

"Orgrimmar was never exactly a masterpiece of architecture"
Them thar's fightin' werds.

Oh come on, when you're horde _everything_ is fighting words. I mean I melted Gamon's face just this morning for complimenting my hair.

Home is where you hang your Horned Titanium Plate Helm. It may not seem much to others but it's all they have. If you were stranded on a remote planet with hostile life forms you'd think Orgrimmar was paradise.
Think of the Orcs like that reality show where people are dropped onto a remote island.
As far as the scars on Stormwind, beyond the park being destroyed, the damage looks minimal. You'd think if he could destroy the park in one shot, he could at least leave singe marks and scars on the rest of the city.

Sorry that was supposed to be a response to another post, lovely comment system fails again.

I'm Horde4Life, but he's right, old Org sux. New Org is a big improvement, but regrettably it's still no Warsong Hold, the mightiest fortress Horde has ever built.
I figure Bliz decided they couldn't recreate or improve on Warsong Hold b/c Deathwing would just impale himself on it during the pre-Cata launch events, and ruin the entire expansion. So they just left it safely up in Northrend instead.

Would have been better with both heads hanging !
Still, nice shot. :-)

I like the concept, but it looks a little overdone and completely out of place. If he blasted the towers like that, why isn't there any scorching and destruction of the buildings nearby? And now that he did it, why are they content to just let it sit and smolder? Shouldn't someone be trying to put out the fire? Again, I like the idea, but I think it could use a little more work to make it more cohesive with the rest of the environment so that it looks more like the after effects of a disaster and less like the entrance to a cheesy Disney Land attraction.

From what I've seen it doesn't stay like that for very long. That scaffolding has people up there working to repair the destruction. You have to remember this is all part of the PRE Cata release and things look quite different as the event unfolds. ;-)
TL;DR It's temporary.

Deathwing's kid is a Jerk.
Hahahaha Oct 15th 2010 10:21AM
I don't think to a parent that would matter.
blazenblue Oct 15th 2010 10:11AM
I don't think he blasted the towers. That's where he leaned on with his claws. And the smoldering look is discolored bricks from his body heat. Y,know molten lava inside him?
Scilk Oct 17th 2010 8:15AM
That sounds more logical, although I'm not sure how those bricks are *still* glowing hot... (unless this pic was taken shortly afterwards)

It's interesting, the Capital cities really seem to reflect the themes for the factions in Cataclysm. Orgrimmar gets rebuilt, Stormwind suffers a ton of damage and in some places is completely destroyed (ie the Park).
Meanwhile, all throughout the leveling experience the Horde theme is "RAWR let's take more land and stuff! For the Horde! Orc smash!"
While the Alliance is more "OMG our stuff is taken or destroyed! Save it! Defend! Hold the line! Ahh!"
WGSXFrank Oct 15th 2010 1:17PM
I dunno about that.
Play as a Horde going through the north/south Barrens. The Alliance are a bunch of jerks as well.
After going through those quests (and reading the quest text, etc), you just want to punish the alliance for the horrible stuff they did there.

@WGSXFrank
You mean like the commander there letting all the camp taurajo civilians leave unscatched, then later finding him hanged by the Horde?
No offence, but I don't think were talking about the same level of jerkiness here :/
Should I remind you about blowing up a Druid school? And no, I don't care if it wasn't ordered by Garrosh! You guys moved in, started taking lands which don't belong to you, and then when innocents are killed by YOUR commanders, say: "But he wasn't acting according tot he Horde! You can't blame us! Now... let's go back at taking lands which don't belong to us and pretend nothing ever happened)
Sorry, but you Hordies are kinda the jerks in Cata :P
Dotson Oct 15th 2010 10:31AM
So did this happen on the live realm?
Dotson Oct 15th 2010 12:35PM
Anybody at all?
Kar On E Oct 15th 2010 1:02PM
Not yet, this is still from the beta. My bet is that this happens in 4.0.3, probably the day before or of Cataclysm.
Lieke Oct 15th 2010 1:05PM
It's on the Beta. You can tell because the title is "Around Azeroth Beta Edition"
richtoad Oct 15th 2010 10:32AM
Think they'll do it?
