Elemental Shaman have had to deal with Spirit-laden shields for quite some time, to the point that, most of the time, they're just better off using held-in-off-hand gear. If Elementals, Magi, and Shockadins (seems to be viable, or at least playable, in 4.0 with Exorcism's removed cooldown and Spirit also counting for Hit via a Holy talent) were all eligible, there could be both healing and casting shields. Doesn't seem too far-fetched to me.

And while I agree that the Intellect plate is a problem, Big Bad Blizz has already said that any solution they can give to that problem is worse for the game than just leaving it as-is, and, frankly, I trust them. As I mentioned above, THIS problem actually has a fix.
