Patch 4.0.1 goes all Anzu, all the time

Our own Alex Ziebart, the darkness that dwells in the souls of all, went into heroic Sethekk today and confirmed it. As of right now, Anzu is simply there if you enter the instance on heroic. No need of a druid who has completed or is on the Vanquish the Raven God quest; just walk in and there he is. As of yet, there's no information on the intended nature of this change; it wasn't mentioned in the big mount availability changes post for 4.0.3. As soon as we find out, we'll let you know.

It has to be heroic, did you do regular?
ZZTop Oct 16th 2010 3:50AM
I read the article, logged in WoW, went in there, he was standing there in the middle of the room. Killed him and he dropped the mount!!!
I soloed it as Demo warlock. Most of the mobs were pretty easy. Guards hit pretty hard and I died 4-5 times before getting to Anzu's room. The boss fight was annoying but manageable.
Don't know if this is a bug or intended, but I'd get on it pronto if you want that mount. Thanks WoWinsider :)

Oh, and oddly the bosses still drop spirit shards.
Groth Oct 16th 2010 6:06AM
clearing to Anzu was always the hard part. the prophet's fear means it can go a little crazy in his room.
In fact, I can imagine not being able to clear the room without pulling anzu to be a little tricky!

Im in the room as we speak on Heroic and he is not here and it is full of adds.
rycrespi29 Oct 16th 2010 4:53AM
I take back my previous post. It wasnt on heroic even though the instance entrance had the skull on it. Must have been a bug.

I'll probably get downrated into the abyss for saying this, but I'm slightly annoyed by this change. I've always felt it should be a druid's privilege to have easy access to this mount and to decide who they share it with. Although to be honest, that's probably because my main is a druid and I already have this mount. However, the fact that they are making it easier to get this mount while removing the ZG mounts (which still elude me to this day) bothers me somewhat.

The thing is... it's happened before to other classes. Back in vanilla, Paladins and Warlocks were able to get mounts faster than others because of the quests built-in for us as part of lore (at least for Pallies). The reason why it was done was to make it fairer to all the other classes.
I'll agree, it's a class specific "privilege" to do so, but when you take into consideration that your flying questline giving you faster flying before a lot of people can access that flight speed normally - I'm actually in support of the change. This just puts it inline with the rest of the mounts you have to farm - you just have to do the run and hope it drops.

@coraldayton:
What do you mean by 'your flying questline giving you faster flying before a lot of people can access that flight speed normally'? It used to be that druids got to fly at 68 before most people could fly normally in Outland at 70, true, but with the change to normal flying at 60 that's no longer the case, and the epic flight form quest line has always required 300 riding skill before it opens up. And before you smugly point at that 68 thing, keep in mind that druids basically didn't get anything combat-effective at that level thanks to flight form in Burning Crusade. Water under the bridge, just water under the bridge, move on...
Honestly I'm ambivalent about the change. The one druid I really wanted it on, managed to get the mount a few weeks ago after a couple months of solo farming it. It'll be interesting to try soloing it with other classes now, though I do think they should have kept the moonstone stand so people have to clear the room like I always did before summoning him. *insert crying about blizzard ruining stuff to make the game casual, completely tongue-in-cheek*

I'm thrilled with the change, and I get where you're coming from, but in general I just say "get over it" to people who complain about this sort of thing. Maybe that sounds a tad insensitive, but I've never been a fan of exclusivity - and I'm also all about self-sufficiency, especially when it comes to WoW. It bothers me enough that I have to bug my fiance to help me farm rep most of the time - let alone trying to find someone with a druid (He doesn't have one) to help me with this.
Now I can go in there on my own and solo it- frankly, I love it. Don't get me wrong, I like playing with other people- but I don't like having to rely on other people to get my own achievements.
Samutz Oct 16th 2010 6:01AM
I ran in and soloed this immediately, thinking they might hotfix it later today, but didn't get the mount.
ZG mounts are still higher priority to me since it's going away soon.
Collected Oct 16th 2010 9:20AM
That can't be a bug surely. Why would a mob in an instance not touched for several years by developers suddenly start spawning on it's own in a patch that also just happens to make a lot of changes that make the game more accessable to more people, such as the mount speed change? I suspect this is intentional for the exact reasons this article speculates.. to allow everyone to have a shot at getting the mount, not just druids. Makes sense to me.
Mau Oct 16th 2010 9:45AM
And what happened to the druid quest? My main had it there half-done for ages, and now its gone.
Chrispy Oct 16th 2010 10:32AM
Thanks for the tip. Just tried it for the first time, solo'd it and got the mount!
Namus Oct 16th 2010 10:50AM
Boo just when they remove judgement of light /wipes on anzu.
(yes, i'm still relearning the class).

Namus Oct 16th 2010 11:09AM
Ohh I wish but it's not the same. the old seal+judgement combo plus instant FoL and divine storm heals kept me going for a long time, now the only instant heal we can use on a regular basis is Word of Glory and you have to make the choice between a small heal or actually dealing damage, Baron Geddon was actually a fun fight, between watching my health bar AND managing my mana bar, now I can't even dispel the mana burn, oh well, time to suck it up and ask a friend to tag along (one that can't use the thunderfury).

My hunter wants this SO BAD! O_O
