My wife and I have played together for years. But the past few months, the game lost some of its luster for her. She just wasn't feeling it, and as a result, she let it go on the back burner. So this morning, when I woke up and walked downstairs, the last thing I expected was to see her avidly taming new pets in Sholazar Basin. But there she was, relearning the hunter class, exploring the new pet management system, saying things like, "Oh, right, I forgot that's how shooting works now," and basically loving the game for the first time in months and months.
And we haven't even gotten the new content yet.
For someone like me, change can be kind of scary, because I'm comfortably used to how things are working. Drastic changes that push me out of my comfort zone and force me to relearn things can be intimidating. Therefore, I sometimes forget that such changes can also be liberating. In effect, you end up playing a substantially new class, and get that sense of discovery back that we all had the first time we played the game.
So, with my wife's example in mind, I ask: Have you come back or given
WoW a new look because of the changes in
patch 4.0.1?

4.0.1 and the Cataclysm expansion might actually push me further away from WoW. It basically all comes down to how integral I feel the guild leveling system becomes.
Basically, I love to play WoW for a couple of months and then disappear for several and then come back. That kind of play style doesn't mesh well with the idea of guilds, I usually log back in after a break and find myself unguilded - if I even bothered to join one when I came back.
At the moment, I am envious of the benefits inferred by high guild level and rep, enough to impact my enjoyment of the game. But I may just decide that those benefits don't matter much, and continue to play as before.

In a way yes, but in another, more realistic and truer way, no
I've been playing on the Beta, but since 4.0.1 released I went back to Live

Why downgrade? It's a legitimate statement.
Look how long PTR was up, and they're only now balancing PVP?

For folks that think the game will be dumbed down do to the changes you're seeing, the 4.0.1 changes are, for the most part tuned for level 85, not 80. In the case of warriors and feral druids feeling too week, Blizzard already said they'll be fixing it.
Back on my point, in cata you actually need to use CC in a heroic. How often did you have to do that in wrath? Like, HAVE to, as a mechanic, because otherwise it would actually be tough? Never? Okay, well, cata dungeons will not be the breeze through we've come to know, and that is a very good thing. Do not knock changes untill you've tried them.

Didn't bring me back to WoW per se. It just re-ignited my interest in WoW.
That count at all?

This. Since they've introduced the DF, I basically spent off-raid nights running the random daily on 4 toons for frosts (with the occasional weekly thrown in ... MAYBE...) before logging and playing StarCraft. Since the patch I've spent hours poring over new specs, glyphs, and reforging before pounding away at training dummies and running randoms to get the feel for the new stuff. It's the most fun I've had in a long time. :]
I love the patch, I think Blizzard's main goal with Cata was to rid the game of the "correct" ways to spec and play and to make end-game content accessible for ALL specs and play styles. And in the end, isn't that what the game is all about, the ability to play it the way you want?

I decided about a month ago that I would not be playing cataclysm. I've enjoyed every minute of my time in Azeroth since I started playing in late vanilla. Over the last 6 months I've just felt my drive to keep farming, keep raiding and keep logging in regularly wane.
Now I'm at the point where I don't feel like I log in enough to get the value I want from my monthly fee. I've been looking at cata coming down the pipe and the little gamer voice in my head just keeps repeating "I don't have the energy, time or desire to push through another xpac." I even got a beta key a couple months ago and have barely logged in there.
So for me, this is the end. Time for something completely different.
I can't say I will never be back, anything is possible and I may get that urge again someday. But for now, I wish you all many hours of good solid fun.

I haven't left wow. But this patch is a little overwhelming. In fact, my guild's message of the day is now, "I just don't know about this."

Just waiting for the balancing to be sorted...

I started playing a Mage when BC first came out. I loved my mage, i leveled her all the way up to 50 but then i noticed i started dyeing A LOT. A lot more than normal, I realized i was going threw mana like one of the mana addicts in the starting zones. I switched to playing my alt rogue, and over the corse of a year my mage is now 54 and my rogue is 80. Granted I missed my mage, it was just easier to do Melee DPS.
However.... When 4.0.1 hit I just happened to log on to my mage. I re-specd fire. I admit i was afraid of the changes at first, but then i saw a glowing thing pop up after casting. So i looked at action bar and saw i had an instant cast pyroblast available. Instant crit! I started playing my mage again slowly learning the new mechanics. I was ecstatic! For the first time in over a year i was playing my starting class and loving it! I love the new changes. My mage now is like crit crit boom! I still had some dying issues, but i believe with practice my mage can be a beast!
Im kind of scared tho, my boyfriend told me of a hot patch that nerf'd mages.... I havent played in a few days i hope that is not the case. If so it will be back to my rogue :(

They WERE nerfed, but I personally didn't notice the difference-- it might not be as bad as you think!

The question is has Blizzard dropped the ball by not addressing the problem with their downloader that now is not udpating tools correctly and is causing the game to crash which will make people leave WoW.

I stopped playing WoW in February because I started working a second job and taking night classes. I was one of the top DPS in one of the top 25 man guilds on my server. I completely shut myself out from WoW and all WoW related information until this past Monday.
I quit my second job since my girlfriend moved in to split the rent with me, and my course schedule wasn't as intense as I was expecting it to be. I activated WoW on Monday not knowing that a massive patch was coming out the very next day.
I completely forgot how to DPS and tank. My guild had fallen apart and downgraded itself into a 10 man after they downed LK. Over the summer, most of those people deactivated their accounts too. Now my guild went from having 15-60 people logged on at any given time to having 1-3 people at peak hours.
I'd like to be interested in WoW again, but they people I've been raiding with for 3 years are still gone and BG's are impossible as a Fury Warrior. The game has crashed on me any time I try and run an instance or raid, so I haven't had much practice outside of a few dummy tests.
The new patch didn't bring me back, and it's not encouraging me to play either. What we really need is Cataclysm to get everyone interested again :-)

I honestly feel that this patch is the best thing Blizzard did after creating World of Warcraft in the first place. Kudos!
Aaron Oct 16th 2010 9:19AM
Change is gooooooood! My rotations are so much more fun now. Can't wait to be 85. COME ON CATA!
The Pirate Oct 16th 2010 9:22AM
Yes its brought me back. I was majorly addicted up to about 2 months ago. Then i just...tailed off. I barely ever went on WoW. When this patch dropped i made a Gnome Rogue and i just cant stop playing. Ive never been a Rogue before and ive never done the Gnome/Dwarf questing areas so add that to the new gameplay and it really is like playing WoW all over again.
DarkFinch Oct 16th 2010 9:25AM
When will people realize that all the 'nerfs' aren't actually nerfs. Sure, your warrior may suck now, but the talent trees are balanced around level 85 now.. Not level 80! Once you get all of your level 85 abilities and all of your talent points, THEN you have the right to complain about talent tree nerfs to Warriors, Rogues, Druids, etc.
USE YOUR HEADS, PEOPLE!

love the new changes to my prot pally and my dk who is also a tank. love how im pushed to my limits on threat generation and being able to have fun relearning my 2 tanks again. i even picked up my warlock whom i rarely touched to try the new system and i love it as well. makes me want to lvl several other toons to see how they have changed and i look forward to when i do. even though i have played my pally for 3 years it feels fresh and very exciting with the new mechanics and cant wait till cata to see what comes next.

I've started playing for the first time in months with 4.0.1. Sure, it's different, but it's always different with a new expansion. There's definitely a lot of legitimate complaints to make about the new patch, but at the same time, a lot of the complaints people are making are essentially just complaints that they can't adjust to change. And there's definitely changes that needed to be made (& still need to be).
Astalnar Oct 16th 2010 9:35AM
As evryone seems to be coming back I seem to be one of few that the patch made me think to take break from WoW for some time until cata hits.
