Because it's always good to have options, not long after the last week's announcements of
special and
epic edition mice,
Steelseries reveals its own entry into the MMO gaming mouse arena with the
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm MMO gaming mouse. The product name is a mouthful, but it has equally hefty features, which are nearly identical to the original Steelseries
World of Warcraft gaming mouse. It has 14 buttons -- one less than the original -- that can be configured in game without the use of any addons, 16 million colors and four levels of intensity and pulsation, support for up to 10 profiles that are linked directly to the
armory, and it appears to sport a better, more ergonomic form factor and surface texture than its predecessor.
The
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm MMO gaming mouse is compatible with both Windows PCs and Macs, with software that supports drag-and-drop functionality that can be used to program the mouse buttons with 130 preset game commands. The 10 profiles stored in the mouse's on-board memory can be configured with their own macros and commands as well as personalized illumination schemes. There's no estimated ship date or pricing yet, but players interested in an official
Cataclysm-themed mouse developed in conjunction with Blizzard can
sign up to be notified over at the Steelseries website.

I don't have ban, which is what you need, but I understand the moderators do.
It's very good, you know.

Was about to buy a steelserises XAI, reconsidering now =)

Reconsider again.
The original SteelSeries mouse has almost universal negative reviews. The "metal" coating chips off almost immediately. The lighting can malfunction, and the software support for it is terrible.
Supposedly that one was made by a different company before being aquired by SteelSeries, but after reading the negative reviews, the original one was thoroughly trashed, I wouldn't touch this one.

I'd also suggest you reconsider on a SteelSeries mouse...especially if this one is anything like the first WoW mouse they made. Besides being a poor quality product, their customer service is an absolute joke. My WoW mouse started having issues after a few months (random lock ups and turning off mid raid) and it took them 3 months to respond to the first ticket I put in. I responded to their ticket and then the mouse just quit working completely. That was in January and they have yet to respond to ANY of my tickets or emails. Yay, I have a $100 color changing paper weight -.-
Picked up the Razer Naga for $80, had recognition problems at installation and they responded to my email in 6 hours...on a weekend! Issue fixed and they've even checked up on issue twice. Love, love, love this mouse! Just wish that the epic version had been out a few months ago, I wouldn't have thought twice about spending the extra money.

You might reconsider again and take a look at the Sandiotech 3DO2 Mouse (www.sandiotech.com) While they lack the marketing power of steelseries, their product has 3 "Joystick"-Buttons = effectively 12 additional Buttons, is also usable as a lefthander (like I am) and doesn't put all the strain on your thumb. Price: $80.

I'm really liking the look of the button placement on this. The three around the scroll wheel seem like they'd be pretty intuitive for me to use. Even the ones to the sides, if they're actually buttons. The wad of thumb buttons the naga and other wow mouse has seems like they'd be more a hassle than an aid to use.
Might think about it if it gets great reviews, my trusty G5 hasn't failed me yet :3

There is an overwhelming negative review of the original WoW mouse. However, I have fallen in love with it, actually purchasing a second mouse for when this one dies in fear that the mouse will be discontinued.
Sure, it has its problems. The paint does wear off. The software lets you create macros that could get you banned. Some find it bulky.
That said, I don't really care what the mouse looks like (my hand does cover it up when I'm using it, after all). Most of the buttons are conveniently placed and have a nice feel when pressed (the buttons in the middle/top of the mouse are little mushy, and the buttons on the right side are out of reach). If you're worried you'll be banned for illegal macros, just bind each button on the mouse to an obscure key combo (shift+ctrl+A etc), then make an in-game macro that fires when that keybinding is pushed. Finally, the bulkiness of the mouse becomes comfortable after just a few uses.
In my opinion, the best part about the mouse is the multitude of buttons. The Naga offers buttons too, but they are all roughly the same shape and in one location. Misclicks are bound to happen if you used all 9 of the available keys. You wont misclick with the WoW mouse, since each button is easily identifiable and in different locations.
Just wanted to let you know that SOME people are happy with the mouse. If you try it out, buy it from a place that takes returns :)

looks like the same uncomfortable design as the last one, except for the thumb buttons. wish i hadn't dropped the money on the first one. it now sits in a corner collecting dust.

Amen, I got the first one as well and it was a huge disappointment. The metal covering on it flaked off within a month, two of the buttons broke, and neither my partner or I found it to be a comfortable mouse to use. For being one of the more expensive mouse I've purchased, it wound up to be cheaply made and not worth it at all.

If i remember correct, last "official wow mmo mouse" from steelseries became famous for getting people who bought it banned from wow.
As cool as it sounds, i value my WOW account more than 4 extra buttons on my mouse.
Ill pass, thanks
razion Oct 16th 2010 8:15PM
I too got the old WoW gaming mouse. I used it, but never gave it any macros for a while because of the reports of people getting banned for using the official mouse.
I found the mouse a bit too bulky for me--unwieldy. Looking at this new mouse now, I'm really hoping it's a bit less of a behemoth.

Sorry, that comment was to a moronic spammer's "comment" that appears to have been deleted. The comment system seems to have...moved my comment..here?
God damnit, comment system!!

I've got my Razer Naga and I'm not looking back.

Cataclysmically awesome!
Zubasa Oct 17th 2010 6:24AM
More of a Cataclysmic Failure.
Eregos ftw! Oct 16th 2010 8:14PM
Any idea on a price on this?
Soulhound Oct 16th 2010 8:19PM
Quoting: There's no estimated ship date or pricing yet
Reading the article before asking question is a good idea generally.
Sorry for sounding asswhipe-ish, but im tired of people not paying attention
Eregos ftw! Oct 16th 2010 8:31PM
Ahh. Sorry I missed half a line consisting of 8 words in a paragraph consisting of 7 lines and 92 words
VioletArrows Oct 16th 2010 8:43PM
Probably another hideously overpriced $100 mouse.
Peney Oct 16th 2010 10:42PM
Actually, Tom's Hardware has already done a spot on this mouse. The listed price is $99.99.
