Because it's always good to have options, not long after the last week's announcements of
special and
epic edition mice,
Steelseries reveals its own entry into the MMO gaming mouse arena with the
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm MMO gaming mouse. The product name is a mouthful, but it has equally hefty features, which are nearly identical to the original Steelseries
World of Warcraft gaming mouse. It has 14 buttons -- one less than the original -- that can be configured in game without the use of any addons, 16 million colors and four levels of intensity and pulsation, support for up to 10 profiles that are linked directly to the
armory, and it appears to sport a better, more ergonomic form factor and surface texture than its predecessor.
The
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm MMO gaming mouse is compatible with both Windows PCs and Macs, with software that supports drag-and-drop functionality that can be used to program the mouse buttons with 130 preset game commands. The 10 profiles stored in the mouse's on-board memory can be configured with their own macros and commands as well as personalized illumination schemes. There's no estimated ship date or pricing yet, but players interested in an official
Cataclysm-themed mouse developed in conjunction with Blizzard can
sign up to be notified over at the Steelseries website.

For a mouse that is 40 dollars more than other comparable mice you to can have a mouse with a WoW label!

I'm pretty disappointed about the negative reviews of Steelseries. I have a Naga that I'm not really happy with and I was thinking I'd like the button placement on the Steelseries mouse a lot better.

A Cataclysm mouse? Ehh....I'll pass; I've heard that it can break easily.

Meh. Paid $40 on sale for my Logitech G500. Scroll wheel click stopped working after a few months, they had a replacement out to me in under a week, top notch CS as always. Huge fan of all their peripherals, have the aforemention G500, a G15 KB, 5.1 speakers, and on my second computer i have a cheap wireless KB/mouse/2.0 speaker combo i got for like $35. Also have a $150 Harmony remote which is the best purchase i made regarding my home theater setup.
Bout the only thing i have in that regard thats not logitech is my headset, because i needed a replacement quick and couldnt find the one ear one in any stores.
The only thing ive had problems with is my (1st gen) G15, but thats mostly wear and tear, and its now well out of warranty. The backlight has stopped working and the WASD, shift, space, and for some reason the 'n' and 'o' keys have worn transparent. Still held up pretty well to 5 years of gaming i think.

I'm a little surprised to see so much hate for the original WoW mouse. I quite like mine.
Does the color rub off? yeah. But all the buttons work just fine, and WoW recognizes every one. As a shaman I put my 3 totem call spells and totemic recall on the directional pad on the side, and my healing cooldowns on the buttons either side of the mouse wheel.
To each their own of course, but I'm a fan. Not sure I'll spring for the new one, but if mine craps out I'll think about it for sure.

Actually, Blizzard and Steelseries both sent me notice about the release and price of this mouse.
$99 MSRP release date of 12/07/2010. (Surprise...)

ohh wait...

If it's as much junk and feels as cheap as the first one, it's gonna be another fail.
Irontoof Oct 17th 2010 8:06AM
razer naga > this. having a numpad on your mouse just owns. also it's by razer and promoted by SWIFTY.

Another person here who bought the original steelseries wow mouse and hates it. About 18 months now since I purchased it and it looks horrible. paint flaking off within the first month of owning it. It has no also turning a horrible green and rust like colour. Looks a total mess.
The software was also junk until they added the support ingame that allowed you to assign everything via button in wow rather than in the software out of game. Thats the only positive thing about this mouse - proper ingame support. Its the only thing this mouse has that I wish the Razor Naga or fancy Logitech G700 had.
Has anyone out there bought a G700 yet? thoughts?

I had the original WoW mouse from Steelseries - the varnish and paint started to peal off and turn my hand green (which wouldn't wash off) after only 2 months of usage. I would suggest sticking with Razer or Logitech. Steelseries has major issues with there painting process for mice and ruberization process for keyboards. Stay away at all costs!

I thinik I will pick up this new Cata MMO mouse. Looks a lot better than the first WoW mouse. My 4 year old Logitech G5 rev 1 is starting to get beat up and sometimes doesn't perform like it used to.

I, too, bought the original WoW mouse. I tried to buy it from the online Blizzard store but it was always out of stock. I called Blizzard and asked about it, their response was that it had a lot of bugs and were waiting for those bugs to get worked out before putting back online. That never happened. I decided to risk these bugs and bought it from BestBuy for $80. It has weird quirks to it. Sometimes when I load a character, I get the message that the WoW mouse isn't recognized. I have to go into the mouse settings and re-enable it. No big deal there. When I play more that one character at a time(I have 4 accounts) the signals for buttons 5-14 will sometimes get sent to multiple windows, so when I switch to Aspect of the Viper on my hunter, my Shammy casts Totemic Recall at the same time. The mouse only lasted for 6 months before the left mouse button wore out. But, I have yet to find another mouse with a D-button where the thumb is so I can control my character while healing/shooting at the same time. This new Cataclysm mouse doesn't have that D-button, which makes it no good for me.

Wow that mouse looks sweet.

I have been happy with my older verison. But it does look a bit shabby as the paint does wear off.
