All the World's a Stage: Top 10 RP hot spots in Cataclysm, page 2

Welcome to Surwich, a little town in southwestern Blasted Lands that I found while exploring the new, old world. Though this little town isn't especially convenient to get to (it's just a tad bit far from Stormwind and in a higher-level zone), I think it may be worth it to make the trip, since the buildings here have some of the most inviting living spaces I've seen in the game yet.

Just take note that the town is Alliance-favored, though at level 80, none of the NPCs attacked me as a Hordie.

With flying mounts, you'll now be able to fly over Undercity, meaning you can now fly over the entire ruins of the city of Lordaeron. The whole area is quite cool, with lots of towers, walkways, stairwells, terraces and more. Sadly, the whole place is in ruins and there isn't much in the way of seating or living space, but it's still pretty cool nonetheless.
Admittedly, I'm not sure how much use this new space will get. I know on my old server, the existing courtyard above Undercity got sporadic use by Forsaken and blood elves. The new space might encourage its further use, though I don't expect the ruins to necessarily become a new hang-out. Instead, the new space should offer more meeting areas for players who need to get together for a specific purpose, possibly in secret.

With the Park demolished, the moonwell-gazers of Stormwind will need to find themselves a new spot to look stoic and forlorn. Fortunately, Blizzard has created a ton of new green space in the north end of Stormwind. I expect these areas to be quite popular, as they've quite expansive but still have a few cottages for players to fight over as "their house." I even noticed a strange little shrine off in a corner, looking quite nefarious.

There has never been a lot of RP in Orgrimmar. Up until the expansion, the city wasn't particularly RP-friendly, due both to the clash of non-RPers going about their business and the overall lack of interesting space for congregation. But now, thanks to the new back door of Orgrimmar, Horde RPers will have a quick and easy RP escape just a short walk from the major city.
Introducing: Bilgewater Grotto. Bilgewater Grotto is a newly constructed goblin city with lantern-lined streets, restaurants and shops. It's got the ambiance of the Midgar slums (from Final Fantasy 7) and is the perfect getaway for Horde RPers who feel out of place in Silvermoon City. If you're into any sort of brothers-in-arms RP, it seems like a great place for soldiers on leave wanting to spend a little gold before they return to Warsong Gulch.

Ah, the RP wedding. The happy union of two characters in love, who may or may not have just met last week in IRL time. OK, I'll admit that was a low blow, but can you blame me? RP weddings are such easy targets for ridicule, both from non-RPers and RPers. That's why I find it particularly amusing that Blizzard saw fit to add this little wedding gazebo to the game in Cataclysm. It's just so appropriate, absurd and somehow sweet, like a gift from Blizzard to the RP community.
Anyway, the gazebo sits just behind the Church of the Holy Light in Stormwind. As you can see from the picture, there is ample seating and a large fountain nearby. Perfect for taking photos by with your goblin picture box. The gazebo also overlooks a lake, which you can't quite see in the picture above.
Unlike all my other picks, I'm absolutely certain this spot will get use. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if on higher-population servers, there was a reservation thread on the realm forums to schedule usage of the space, especially in the summer months when lots of players are on vacation and the RP weddings are in full swing. Perhaps a group of priest RPers will coordinate the ceremonies? We'll have to wait and see.
So what do you think of my picks? If there are any others that you can think of be sure to leave a comment! Mr. Gray should be back next week, and if he's not ... we'll see. Dawn taps her finger tips together.

Beautiful areas, I can't wait to use them for my future rp! Thanks so much for compiling this list! :D

i agree, and also anyone know a good rp server other than moongaurd?

Wedding gazebo made me shake my head and laugh while saying: "Wedding gazebo..."
Awesome idea, but so easy to make fun of the antics that will take place there...including the schedule that was mentioned.

I already can't wait to be part of a group of Horde "wedding crashers"

The Barge in Thousand Needles is my top pick, especially if you quest there and get the river boat vehicle. You can also start bar fights by cracking a bottle over a gnome's (or goblin if you're alliance) head :)

I hope they up the Grim Guzzler in BRD. With my remote, it's my favorite bar. Potential violent, dirty, cheap ale...mmmmyes.

I've been trying to keep myself from seeing all the new areas in cataclysm. I've been quite successful, but what I have seen is pretty awesome.

Before I read the entirety of this article;
The first picture of the Draenei in her skivvies swimming;
Where I'm from, we call that [Censored].

Drowning?

Even though I'm not a roleplayer, these areas seem perfect for someone like me to start. My favorites are Hyjal, the Azhara Waterfall, the Stormwind Green Spaces, and the Bilgewater Grotto. Now if only my computer would work with Patch 4.01 so I could test it out.

Oh wow.....These areas are amazing. D:
Also, as for the wedding gazebo, I just have this to say... And people say that blizz is trying to drive us rpers off. /scoffs

You can actually reach the wetlands farm and stormwind waterfalls without flying mounts, but yeah, it might look weird to have your RP crew climb mountains to get to their "homes". :)
Oh, and I'm absolutely amazed by the Orgrimmar pictures! Until now I had only seen pictures of the valley of strength, and I really didn't expect the city to become so large and beautiful. Same goes for Stormwind, it's awesome to see they actually use some of the large area behind it, instead of clustering it with mountains.

Now, I can finally take the picture that I have always wanted. My toon...alone...looking over a lake...in a wedding type area. I RP the unloved recluse (and the recluses of my server have set up a recluse community. Fun, no?) and part of his back-story is that he got stood up on his wedding day. Now, I can finally use that tuxedo outfit I carry everywhere.

I was kinda distracted at the point you said "Night Elf wardens". Night Elf wardens! Eeee! My deep, abiding, and completely irrational adoration of Maiev Shadowsong is appeased a little more. Now bring her back, Blizz!

I'm really sad that they didn't give the little outdoor cafe in Bilgewater clickable seats. Imagine 4 or 5 tables, full of RP!
Ice Oct 17th 2010 9:13PM
Just remember.
Place only augments RP, it's the people in the place that makes the RP.
These places look good but for some reason I see only few people going to places like "azshara waterfalls" by flying mount, it should be accessible by everone with or without flying mounts. Not to mention there can be those stubborn people that go "I dont have reason IC to fly in old world and go to that spot on hill of SW".
But if you can get so, there is indeed potential for relaxing or nice things.

I don't really RP, but I get curious about your shenanigans from time to time. I was just wondering what you do if someone else is claiming "your" spot? Do you actually stay in character and contest their claim or just log in at a different time and pretend the incident didn't happen?
Saeadame Oct 17th 2010 10:33PM
Well, if you don't want to make an incident but you still want to play, you could create something your character has to do away from home for a while, and come back after you've done that and see if the other person has left.
EnigmaEngine Oct 17th 2010 10:43PM
So is spontaneous RP with a random person rare?
LynMars Oct 17th 2010 11:06PM
Random RP with random people can vary; it depends on what they're doing, what you're doing, etc. On my server, a lot of RP happens in towns and cities, so running into people and randomly RPing social interaction can be pretty common. Out in the world, it's less likely that you'll run into someone claiming a particular spot at a specific time.
On our server we also tend to have regular "events" like player-run taverns, shops, public IC guild meetings, etc., some of which share physical spaces at different times, that people show up to RP either planned stuff, or random interaction, or both, since those are places and times one is guaranteed to meet others IC and it's acceptable and encouraged to "break into" RP with them without fear of interrupting someone's plot, or even joining into ongoing plot that way.
As for sharing space, it again varies. People can chat OOCly in whispers or whatever to work out a time, or if you show up and find the place occupied, leave and come back later. For instance, if it's something like a private house situation, it's a little awkward to explain Random Strangers joining the RP most times.
In any and all cases, I encourage simple OOC communication in the background to make sure it's OK to join in--and if necessary, how--to keep the RP running smoothly and avoid bad feelings bleeding into OOC. Good RP shouldn't get in the way of Good RP, and a bit of clarifying and communication OOC (don't have to script anything, just make sure people are mostly on the same page) can make IC work a little better, especially when place and time conflict.
