Cataclysm cinematic now available
The Cataclysm cinematic has just become available, and -- words fail me -- it's amazing. Some folks behind the scene here think it's Blizzard's best yet, but personally, I think it's a dead heat between this and the Wrath of the Lich King cinematic.
Interestingly, there are no NPCs or characters of any kind visible in the cinematic apart from Deathwing himself (apart from a quick glimpse of what are probably a few goblin or human-looking armorers). You do see some extraordinary landscapes rendered in high-definition glory for the first time -- The Barrens, Thousand Needles, Darkshore and Stormwind -- and perhaps it's meant as a reminder that the aspect of death was once the aspect of earth and that he hasn't relinquished his power over the latter.
Sorry, gnomes; looks like you're still waiting for a cinematic debut!

"I wish that Deathwing's size in raid is as big as in the movie... he was just standing on top of BOTH towers in SW... he's HUGE. I just hope Blizz don't do like they did with Arthas: every time you turn around he has a different size O.o"
I'm picturing the Kologarn fight, where his arms are NPCs all by themselves and we never even see him below the waist. In Deathwing's case, the walls of the room would have to be his wings.
And when the fight starts, if you had been looking back you'd see something moving near the instance entrance portal on the other side of where the 19 minibosses were, and you'd realize it's his tail.

I think I would have liked to have someone representing "us." I thought the technical quality was beyond terrific, had a great set up of just what happens to Azeroth (and cool that we got to see some very recognizable landmarks that those of us who have been playing).
But the thing I liked about the first 2 Cinematics (the original and TBC) was that they sort of allowed us to see the possibilities for what we might experience (granted, not in such beautiful detail). I wonder how many people rolled a Feral DPS Druid after seeing a graceful and alert Night Elf run and leap through Teldrassil (or maybe Ashenvale) and then transform midair into an equally graceful cat. Or wondered "OMG!! Where can I get that HAMMER?" when seeing that Draenai Paladin in TBC Cinemaric. We saw classes and races that we'd either like to play or recognized, in a new environment. When I saw that human mage sheep someone in Nagrand, I just couldn't help but smile, as I'd just started playing my first toon, a mage, when I saw the Burning Crusade video.
Cata Cinematic IS absolutely beautiful and certainly expresses the destructiveness of Deathwing, and can rival any action/fantasy movie trailer. I think I'd have just liked to have seen representations of players in there, even if for a little at the end. :D

Agreed. I liked the wrath scene more. This one was really short. The wrath scene was the ultimate lore video.

This feels ... incomplete ?

I really didn't like it. I guess I was just expecting more, and something better. Very short, and just, not much to it ... metal plates being hammered on, woo (didn't that actually happen way back during the War of the Ancients?), fly by of a few recognizable spots, and a little destruction ... it really, really didn't do it for me at all.

THE END IS KNEE!
Kurash Oct 17th 2010 5:11PM
"Nigh"?
...Or is Deathwing going to crush the world with his knee? :)
Kylenne Oct 17th 2010 5:22PM
THE WORLD WILL BURN BENEATH HIS KNEE!

Now I see why Blizzard is giving us so much stat-wise to fight Deathwing. From the looks of him it will take 2 40 man raids to take him down. We can only hope to contain him...

Absolutely amazing job Blizzard.

I think the squee I just emitted was louder than deathwing.
stickybones Oct 17th 2010 5:24PM
I suppose curiosity has always killed me; what exactly is a "squee"?
vanillabean Oct 17th 2010 5:30PM
verb: To squeal with glee; from a combination of the two words; the sound of an excited fangirl
noun: A feeling of excitement and happiness, such that one feels like squeeing
