Hallow's End falls upon Azeroth once again, and it's the same old, same old. But the same old thing actually never gets old, because this is quite possibly the most fun yearly event in the game. It's that time of the year where the typically empty and unloved Scarlet Monastery graveyard gets more than its welcome share of visitors and its summoned inhabitant gets farmed endlessly for his drops -- or I should say,
one particular drop. At this point in the game with
Cataclysm on the horizon, pretty much everybody has gotten what he needs from the
Headless Horseman, who drops mostly ilevel 200 gear. With just a few weeks to go before players level past 80, there isn't anything that won't be obsolete.
That said, I have a sentimental attachment to the
Horseman's Horrific Helm, which I have macroed to use with my
Hammer of Wrath, which I have to admit is terribly annoying (and extremely spammy now in
4.0.1). I think I'll be paying the horseman a visit again this year, even though the only thing I really want off him is his horse. What are your Hallow's End plans? Is this the only holiday you need to
finally get that 310 percent mount speed? Perhaps you want that
Sinister Squashling pet? Are you complete with
all your achievements for this holiday -- on
all your alts? Tell us your plans for this holiday, one of the last yearly events we'll see in old Azeroth.

This was happening to me this morning too... I was trying to get a quick Headless Horseman run in before leaving for work this morning. Seems no sooner did I get into the instance I froze right up. Had to end the program and logged back in, however, as soon as I was put back in the instance within a couple of seconds it froze back up again. I just ended the program again and had to leave for work.

My fiance and I just tried starting the event on two separate accounts and it crashed the game each time. Seems to be the gear wheel causing it.

Yup, there is a major bug with the instance. Some say it's mousing over the pumpkin, others clicking on it, others just being in the instance. Either way, major disconnect bug, forums are full of reports of it with no CM help so far other than things that won't fix the bug (delete WTF, turn off addons).

I was having this problem last night. I tried it several times and can confirm even a mouseover froze up WoW.

mousing over the pumpkin crashed my client several times. /reload ui fixed it for me.

It's bugged, it's bugged, it is buggedy bugged. But you could've guessed, that, couldn't you? Slow loading/freezing at loading screen (needing to ctrl-alt-del out - and for one person I know completely trashing the OS install), crashing on mousing over pumpkin, some players not seeing the boss while the rest of the party can etc etc etc. Fun, fun, fun.

I did the event every day last year and only got the squashling, but my girlfriend needed the squashling, so I gave it to her and only one of us could get the achievement. I would have to wait a whole year before I could try again.
Hopefully I'll get the Sinister Calling achievement and be able to enjoy the holiday events without feeling like I HAVE to do them.

Good luck to everyone who needs the sinister squashing. I got my second one tonight o_O. Anyway, all I really want this year is a new horsey.
pancakes Oct 18th 2010 8:22AM
*Second on the same character, that is. I'd love to be able to send him to my priest, just because it's one of my favourite pets.

Considering you can't use the pumpkin besides of other fight/instance related issues I don't see the point of this article
Ettin Oct 18th 2010 8:22AM
I got the mount on my very first run this year.
Heh.
Krz Oct 18th 2010 8:23AM
Ooh, Hallows End! I'm dressing up as Neltharion!
poggg Oct 18th 2010 8:24AM
The squashling.
The thrice-damned, unholy, motherless squashling.
My shaman needs only that one thing to get The Hallowed. This is my _THIRD YEAR_ attempting it. The RNG has seen fit to ruin me time and again until this point. I refuse to accept it happening a third year in a row. I REFUSE!

I have to say the bags are better than rolling against others.
In one bag tonight, I got the helm, sinister squashling and the broom, which, it an instant cast mount!
It's like being a druid switching to flight form.
toddless Oct 18th 2010 8:26AM
Just need the helm and squashling to get my proto drake....
I'm coming for you Headless Horseman with the wrath of the Light!

I seem to remember someone mentioning last year that travel/collection quests where you visit every inn rewarded an insane amount of XP/hr. Is that still the case this year? I would love to give my shaman a boost, I have grown weary of leveling through Northrend again.
Warren Oct 18th 2010 8:35AM
you'll only get like one lvl
Neyssa Oct 18th 2010 8:49AM
I am lvl79, and I visited some pumpkins last night. I received about 13.000 Xp/ inn. Just to compare, on this level a usual quest gives about 25k xp, mining a saronite node is 1050 xp, killing a mob is around 2-5000 xp.
To be honest, I don't think it is worth it if you travel just for the xp. The routes between inns are too slow. However, make sure to drop by every inn which comes in your way.

It becomes worthwhile if you're a mage, or if you have a friendly mage who is willing to be a taxi.
The pumpkin quests do give you a nice amount of cash money, too.
