Hallow's End falls upon Azeroth once again, and it's the same old, same old. But the same old thing actually never gets old, because this is quite possibly the most fun yearly event in the game. It's that time of the year where the typically empty and unloved Scarlet Monastery graveyard gets more than its welcome share of visitors and its summoned inhabitant gets farmed endlessly for his drops -- or I should say,
one particular drop. At this point in the game with
Cataclysm on the horizon, pretty much everybody has gotten what he needs from the
Headless Horseman, who drops mostly ilevel 200 gear. With just a few weeks to go before players level past 80, there isn't anything that won't be obsolete.
That said, I have a sentimental attachment to the
Horseman's Horrific Helm, which I have macroed to use with my
Hammer of Wrath, which I have to admit is terribly annoying (and extremely spammy now in
4.0.1). I think I'll be paying the horseman a visit again this year, even though the only thing I really want off him is his horse. What are your Hallow's End plans? Is this the only holiday you need to
finally get that 310 percent mount speed? Perhaps you want that
Sinister Squashling pet? Are you complete with
all your achievements for this holiday -- on
all your alts? Tell us your plans for this holiday, one of the last yearly events we'll see in old Azeroth.

I'm just hoping the mount just might drop off the trick or treating, 'cause if I'm luck is anything like in Brewfest now, it'll be a miserable trial, considering this holiday isn't as long...
Two brooms, though! Yay? *sigh*

All I need from this holiday is the Sinister Squashling and the Hallowed Helm. It's all I've needed for two years, since the Achievement system was put in place. It is the only achievement I need for What a Long, Strange Trip it's been, and it's been the only achievement I've needed since Brewfest last year.
In two years, I have Trick or Treated so many times it must be multiple hundreds by now, I've killed the Headless Horseman almost as many times as well. Last year, my guild was exceptionally kind by spending most of the last week helping me farm him on multiple (20-30 a day) alts every day, all in the hopes of getting me that last achievement and that drake.
In two years I have never even seen a Sinister Squashling or a Hallowed Helm. I have done anything and everything possible to get my purple drake. I have spent the last year watching people fly ahead of me on their fancy mounts while I'm left behind, knowing that there is nothing separating us except pure luck.
This year, I shall once again be Trick or Treating at every possible opportunity, killing the Headless Horseman once a day, and almost certainly crying in 2 and a half weeks time when I see everyone else in my guild (and all their alts) get their purple drake before me.
I hate this holiday. That stupid horseman has it out for me.

...er, sorry. Just getting in the spirit of things.

So you only get one chance per day to get the helm/squashling? Ouch. And what if you lose out on the roll? Is it just me or are those items going to become even more difficult to get?
BillDoor Oct 18th 2010 8:48AM
There is no roll, the items are in a bag that you get when you kill the Horseman. It's a chance that the items will be in the bag. Just like Brewfest.
pancakes Oct 18th 2010 8:51AM
The squashlings come in the loot bags, so you don't need to roll on them. Can't say for the helm.
Hyacintha Oct 18th 2010 10:06AM
@Collected: They also have a rare chance to drop from the trick or treat bags from the innkeepers, so make sure you're getting those as often as possible.
Amaxe Oct 18th 2010 12:36PM
Helm drops from the bag... sadly it dropped only for my main who already has the meta for the holiday.
Kylenne Oct 18th 2010 1:48PM
There's three ways to get the helm/pet:
-HH loot bag (once per day)
-Trick or Treating from innkeepers (one per hour)
-Smash the Pumpkin daily (put the fires in Noobsville out and kill HH to drop the pumpkin)
I got the helm on my priest and the pet on my shaman both from doing Smash the Pumpkin.

I got the hallowed on my DK last year, which is the only event title on any toon that I have. I may try to get it on my druid. But mostly, like everyone, i want the mount. Even seen it drop twice, so the drop rate isn't terrible.
Blackdemon Oct 18th 2010 2:15PM
I'm after the mount of course, for the third year running. Also being the achievement addict that I am, I will be trick and treating every possible hour in an attempt to get all the masks for the Mask achievement.
Having run the horseman this morning, I was obviously gutted to see someone get the mount and the pet in their first bag. Damned RNG!

Logged in on main this morning just to tyr and get horsey - no luck again. Logged on with first alt - and woops - he got Horsey - just like he got Kodo... which i only want for main... Oh well another 13 days to go and hope for Horsey on main. I bet the some of my other alts will get Horsey too - cause some of them got Kodo... Why cant they be BoA!
And yes - game crashed for me too on my alt.

The Reigns will be MINE this holiday! I already have his helm, his balefull blade, all his trinkets, and everything else I can get (even the squashling) all I need is the reigns, then Rothide "The Hallowed" will take up the mantle of the horseman.
The dead will ride (and rhyme) again!
viperdt51 Oct 18th 2010 9:02AM
Did the horseman on two toons before work this morning and got the mount on both. :) but I bet I won't be able to get the pet or the helm now. Lol o well there is always next year right. I hope.
Rooga Oct 18th 2010 9:22AM
Sinister Squashling is the cutest pet in the game. After the baby murloc of course.
Hal Oct 18th 2010 9:06AM
Just the mount for me. My alts weren't 80 last year at Hallow's End, but I have no interest in grinding the holidays for them, so they'll get whatever they get from the Horseman.
I find it ironic, though, that my first attempt on the Horseman this morning with my main yielded a Sinister Squashling. My main has had one for two years, finding one in a gift box after defending Goldshire from the Horseman. I never had to fuss about it dropping the way some people did.

Don't forget to visit southshore this Holiday, before the stink bombs really go off and we can't do the same achievement next year.

looking forward to another year of running it every day, and not getting the damn pet, and never finishing the long strange trip.
got the pet on 3 of my alts from trick or treat bags tho.
nomoremisterniceguy Oct 18th 2010 9:44AM

Gimp Oct 18th 2010 9:59AM
Got the mount last year and I love it. Especially now that I can use it as a land mount in Dalaran and then take off in the flying area without having to summon it again :)
