Aye, its rather unfair towards more DoT-based classes, which makes me question the mechanic rather than going "ooo cool". The last way you should be limiting damage is by enforcing an arbitrary limit on who can and can't damage it.
It could of been a scaling buff that increased over time, like the spawned npcs during the Gunship battle, or after every crit they take X% less damage, or something else besides "Anything less than 10k, you screwed".
Hell, they should of just put the limit at "9000" instead of 10k.
