Breakfast Topic: Ambassador Jenkins, Bane of The Fallen King
This Breakfast Topic has been brought to you by Seed, the Aol guest writer program that brings your words to WoW Insider's pages.
Though just a word or phrase tacked on to your name, titles hold great weight. They announce your accomplishments to the world: You are a gladiator, slayer of kings, and master of the kitchen. They can mark you as a member of an exclusive (sometimes extremely so) club. As you wander around Dalaran, others stare in awe at your insanity, your sheer dedication to your chosen path. For some, titles represent an achieved goal -- you are a seeker, loremaster, explorer, spending days trekking across continents, slaying mighty monsters and harmless critters for assorted organs. Others are incessant partiers, traveling from lunar festivals to winter celebrations always dressed for the season, fireworks in one hand, booze in the other.
Personally, I've always stuck to short titles. There is something about "Ambassador" and "The Seeker" that have always appealed to me. These titles lend a bit of mystery to my toons; am I actually seeking something, or am I just a huge The Who fan? Why is an ambassador standing naked outside of ICC? Am I really that salty?
How do you present yourself to Azeroth? Have you achieved that one goal, earned the only title you ever need? Or are you in constant flux, a new identity every week? What's your favorite title?

Given my warlock's name (after stupidly being forced to name change), I try to sport titles that sound warlock-like, by Kurrupting people. Kurrupt the Pilgrim (here's looking at you Native Americans! mwhahaha), Kurrupt the Kingslayer, Kurrupt the Astral Walker. I really need an Undying title though cause that one might be the best.

My Undead warlock walked around with "the Hallowed" since it first became available right before WotlK dropped, mostly because I liked the way it sounds but also because I liked the irreverence of the match. Though after over a year of trying he finally won the STV fishing competition, so he now sports the Salty.
My druid on the other hand, sports "the Patient" title, mostly because I feel that title more defines me then any other one in the game, its just a shame its so common, and that it is often sported by people who are anything but.

Still proudly wearing my Hand of Adal title on my Mage. It's rare and you can't get it anymore. Kind of like a decent warlock :)

We have a hunter in my guild named Monyshot. He wants the "Salty" title.
That is all.

Caspianroach the Insane :3
Because it's awesome!
Bogmunch Oct 19th 2010 8:38AM
"of the Horde" is the only one for me.
I enjoy it merely because there are so few people who have it.

My favorite title is my Sergeant title. I'm kinda sad it will no longer be special come Cataclysm.
Ryan Oct 19th 2010 8:53AM
I agree, and I'm hoping that they'll find a way to recognize the PVP title veterans. Maybe Command Sergeant Major for the enlisted Ranks or Brigadier Marshall for those who got officer ranks?

My paladin's been rockin' his Knight Captain title non-stop (with a short, "Salty" hiatus of about a week) since the achievement/title system dropped.
I, too, will be sad to see the dilution of the "old school" PvP'ers titles.

im not sure, i think my grand marshal title will still hold some weight, esp at the beginning of seasons, wish they had just left the titles out though, this grind is NOTHING compared to what it was...

I'm an oceanographer, so I can't wait to get The Oceanographer when Cata is released! :)
(maybe I can just send Blizz a copy of my diploma for the title? ;))

Before I started playing WoW, I looked up stuff like crazy, including titles. I always envisioned myself doing something awesome and getting a title for it. Now that I've actually hit 80 and am tackling ICC, I see every man and his dog with some title or another, so I keep my name short and simple, barring rare occasions - 'Jep'.
frugality Oct 19th 2010 10:39AM
I am all about this. I plan on doing old skool rep grinds, so I am sure I will replace it at some point. However, for now..."the Patient," "Crusader," just don't hold appeal. I did use "Ambassador" for a bit, though. I like the sound of that. It might be because my first PvP experience was me getting camped by a hordie with the "Ambassador" title and laughing/crying about the irony that an "Ambassador" was being a huge [...].
Maybe "the Diplomat" when I get it.
Chetti Oct 19th 2010 8:42AM
I wore Ambassador for the longest time once I got it. I spent so much time grinding IF and Gnome Exiles rep (and lemmie tell ya, the Gnomes took forever!). My next task was finishing off Explorer, I don't think I switched to that one though.. right now I sport Brewmaster because its the first of the holiday titles I was able to earn. Right know I'm going for the Hallowed, which.. I think that will be my stuck-on title until I manage to grind out The Exalted or the (post-cataclysm since theres no way I'll get it before) Loremaster. I know I'll never be a Bane of.. or a Kingslayer, and the other raid/end game type titles that are out of my reach, but I enjoy the ones I do get. :)

The Insane ..... because I am.

Banasaves the Patient
I 'm a healer. You can't beat this. in fact...
You can't touch this.
Sleutel Oct 19th 2010 8:45AM
I dunno, "Banasaves the Immortal" would be pretty nice. :D
Sleutel Oct 19th 2010 8:44AM
Salty. All the time. Prior to the addition of the Northrend fishing tournament, it was limited to a maximum of approximately 52 people per realm per years the ream has been live. It's twice that now, but it's still an artificially imposed limit that makes it one of the most exclusive titles in the game--if not THE most.
Cirien Oct 19th 2010 10:33AM
something tells me death's demise is far more exclusive
Sleutel Oct 19th 2010 11:13AM
Hah, you're right, I was just thinking of hardmode titles like Light of Dawn instead of realm-first ones. Okay, so there are six titles with a more restrictive list: Celestial Defender, Magic Seeker, Conqueror of Naxxramas, Death's Demise, Grand Crusader, and Obsidian Slayer.
Things like Scarab Lord, Hand of A'dal, etc. are potentially as exclusive, since they're no longer obtainable, but there was never a hard cap on their numbers.
