Ya know, I'm fine with that. Announce a game when it's got a year left in development tops. One of the problems I have with D3 is that they announced it years ago and it probably wont even be out until 2012."Hey, remember that game we told you about 6 years ago? You can buy it now!""Uh, thanks?"

As I recall wow was in development for 4 years before the first beta. Yet it's still ginormous. I know I followed Wc3 development for 2 years. Don't doubt Blizzard's ability to draw crowds to their products despite lengthy development periods.
