BlizzCon 2010: Closing ceremonies

Blizzard used this opportunity to bring out the tournament winners. Warcraft 3 winner Remind (night elf) from South Korea and StarCraft 2 winner NEXGenius (protoss), also from South Korea, were presented with $25,000 for being grand prize winners. They will also be getting an eSports ring customized to their game that's the size of Superbowl rings. The WoW Arena tournament was still going on at this point (*aAa* vs compLexity.Red), so there was no winner to announce for it yet.
Some faux-hype was built up as Paul started to hint that he was going to announce the secret next-gen MMO that Blizzard has had in development only to reveal a series of joke slides such as World of Jersey Shorecraft, Glee-ablo, and Booty Baywatch. So, still no news on that front. Based on interviews throughout the weekend we might not hear anything about it in 2011, but things should be announced by BlizzCon 2012.
The one big thing that did come out of the closing ceremonies was the announcement that 1,000 of the attendees will be receiving beta keys for Diablo 3. That's about 5% of the crowd that was at the convention. If you want to know how much of a chance this is, get a 20-sided die and take one attempt at rolling a 20. However, this does mean that the Diablo 3 beta is getting really close to being ready for testing.
All in all, I really feel that the closing ceremonies were phoned in. There were some cool moments and interesting features announced for all three major Blizzard properties this weekend, but the closing ceremony itself really left the convention feeling much more lackluster than it was.
On the bright side, Tenacious D is about to rock our socks off.

I am a genious!!!!!!
There are 2 pre-cataclysm patches: 4.0.1 and 4.0.3 itself....
4+0+1 + 4+0+3 = 12
4+0+3 = 7
12/7 :D
The funny thing is that I made this calculation when they first announced the patches LOL
Rufio Oct 24th 2010 12:57AM
Yes, you really are a 'genious'.
Utakata Oct 24th 2010 12:29AM
That's it? I thought this thing goes on till Sunday.

What sucked is his comment about Jay Mohr writing his jokes. He knows how badly a huge percentage of us hate him as MC, yet they keep hiring him back. Wonder who Jay's.. oh never mind that.
Biggest Suck of the PPV other than Mohr sucking the air out of the room..
Both Nights, God Damn Direct TV pulled the plug early. Friday it was in the middle of Starcraft 2 match of the century feature fruit seller. There was 45 minutes of scheduled time left when they did this.
Then tonight they pulled the plug on the final rounds of the WoW 3vs3 world championships.
WTF?
There was still 35 minutes left again, and since Blizzard promised all events will receive full coverage, this is just another reason they need to get their own setup for streaming the con, or hire a new network.

I honestly think this year's Con was abit pointless they just kinda threw a bunch of B grade info together and hyped it up...I mean the RTS Comp's we're nice but that was about it...
S.O. Oct 24th 2010 1:46AM
Yeah I kind wish Blizzard had decided not hold one this year as awful as that is to say
Henrique Barbosa Oct 24th 2010 1:41AM
When Diablo 3?WHEN?Maybe on another life.WoW contest maybe reviewed and the winner maybe will have to play again.

They should of hung onto the Cataclysm cinematic for an extra week or so to show. There's a few complaining that it was boring and getting to see that before the mainstream would have been cool for them:)
ambermist Oct 24th 2010 8:11AM
This. I don't understand why they didn't hold off ONE WEEK to show the cinematic. Would've at least been something shiny to show off in the opening ceremony.
I thought it was sort of lame that they played it again even though they had just released it; the sound intro might have been cool in person, but it didn't translate on the stream.

Just wow... the ending to the 3v3 arena tourney was complete bs, Compexity Red totally got screwed by Blizzard. AAA should not have been given that win. Before Europeans start saying that the 20 minutes was up, the officials allowed the game to go on, much like stoppage time in soccer/football. How can anyone be expected to play their best when they just had their prize money and title of Global Champions taken away from them.
ps. On another note, the length of these matches just shows how much of a problem infinite mana and off spec healing was for PvP.
Henrique Barbosa Oct 24th 2010 4:39AM
Agreed...they sure will sue Blizzard and ask for the prize. If it was me i would divide the cash equally...really.They've deserved it.The remaining audience even said boo.I do not want to win like an idiot. What a kid will do with that?Sure.Money to play wow every month. And come on...I would buy a car but i would feel sorry for them for the rest of my life...Blizzard just was not fair enough...they said to later...the broadcasting was even gone with the winner highlited.
ambermist Oct 24th 2010 8:20AM
I didn't watch the 3v3 tournament; what happened?
Henrique Barbosa Oct 24th 2010 4:31AM
LOL.Sorry for the duplicated. But it was funny the guy was so happy for winning 75,000 dollars and then they said the rules..."its Blizzard, not us..."..the guys were very upset and lost the game.
Henrique Barbosa Oct 24th 2010 4:40AM
*too

I hate to feel so negatively, but I I think we were gypped this year.
At least, it felt like we opened our presents early and then there was nothing to surprise us on our birthday/christmas.
mrgrosser Oct 24th 2010 6:15AM
Is anyone else surprised by the fact that the winners of the Warcraft III and Starcraft II tournaments were asian??? I mean, I was SHOCKED... **not really**
