As hinted during the Starcraft 2 cinematic panel yesterday, a new Cataclysm cinematic just debuted at the Cinematics: Cataclysm panel. As any beta worgen player could tell you, the "transition cinematic" that really kicks the story into high gear has been missing, and now we know where and what it is. As a quick gloss on what you'll see without spoiling anything too heavy, you'll see your character's transition from human to worgen, with some quiet speculation on whether your humanity's salvageable or not.
We'll post it as soon as we can find/get a copy on YouTube, but suffice it to say -- it rocks. I'm amazed at the quality the cinematics team can get out of the in-game models these days.
EDIT: A copy just went up and I've posted it past the cut. The quality's not that great, but I'll post a better copy as soon as one appears.
EDIT: High-quality copy now available past the cut.
BlizzCon 2010 is upon us! WoW Insider has all the latest news and information. We're bringing you liveblogging of the WoW panels, interviews with WoW celebrities and attendees and of course, lots of pictures of people in costumes. It's all here at WoW Insider!
Don't feint but I agree with Eternauta here. I'm so glad the Worgen starting zone isn't just full of the shallow, gimmicky feel of the Goblin zone. The race doesn't appeal to me at all, so that's fine. On the opposite end, the Worgen get a dark lore-tasty, developed story of people struggling to contain their inner monster while, essentially, fighting monsters.
I love it.
Now if only we could play our story out fully rather than being shunted to Elf-Town while the Forsaken get to see it play out. That will never be cool with me.
Overall awesome cinematic. Though, I have to say it reminded me a LOT of Anthony Hopkins little dialogue to his son just before he unleashes him on the world in the movie, Wolfman.
It was a cool cinematic alone but It's also kind of disappointing because I was mostly looking forward to an official reveal of how the worgen curse is spread. Bites, Scratch, some weird somewhat-Druidic blood ritual or something, just some kind of confirmation on that, the video doesnt really TELL YOU anything you diddnt already know, not much of a "reveal" of anything, just a "here watch this" so while a good standalone cinematic it's also rather disappointing.
I wonder if their going to make another cinematic for the females. I'm guessing that this is right before you end up in the stocks. I personally don't think they can pass that off as a female Worgen.
I think the one in the cage is not actually the player, just another random worgen. Godfrey is just passing time with his monologue. Sure, you end up in that cage yourself when playing and then on the stocks for potion adminstrating, its just not shown. Same deal with the Goblin cinematic, your in that brig somewhere, just not shown.
Also, yay for the Running Wild animation.... i hope..
Alucard is... also a vampire himself... he just works with the Helsing organization. I really don't think the guy's based on anything except the archetype of a Gothic-Victorian gentleman. Glasses that glint or can't be seen through has long been a comic/manga way of indicating a general evilness to a character and continues into movies with sunglasses that are too dark to see through too. The tophat, cape, clothing.. those are all Victorian elements, which the Worgen zone is heavily taken from anyway. I don't think it can be said he's based on Alucard in the slightest, just that character designs for both characters were based on history. (No sarcasm intended towards you, but you'd be amazed at how many times I have to flat out go "No, see, they're not trying to look like *this tv show*...*this tv show* is basing their elements off of Ancient Egyptian design." )
The cinematic looks awesome and makes me eager to play a worgen. I have to level up at least one of my 80s to 85 before I'm allowing myself to, since I'll be leading the raids and it'd be bad if I didn't set an example.. but THEN I'm going to start a worgen, darn it!
That was amazing. It really puts perspective on what happens at the Final Stand in Gilneas Cathedral and adds to Lord Godfrey's character. Top marks for dramatics, and I have to admit, I can see where Lord Godfrey is coming from with his speech.
Oooh... that is awesome. I'd planned to wait a while before rolling my worgen, but that might change. I'm really glad that Blizzard has made the change part of the whole starting experience, not just "this happened before you started".
Also: you have no idea how much I want a cloak like that for my characters. Seriously. So much want.
Honestly I don't find it as entertaining as the Goblin one. I mean it's still good, but I like the Goblin one better. Though it bring about the question, does the cinematic change if you're a female Worgen? If not that could really suck.

It was mentioned before that while fighting the Worgen, your character receives a wound that just doesn't seem to heal. One thing leads to another.
So it spreads by injury. Bites seem most likely, but given that's a curse and thus magical in nature, any wound is a fair guess.

It wouldn't work for the female model. Without the glowing eyes, inhuman snarl and expression, or the ferocity...
/pictures the female worgen's human eyes, baby forehead, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle's snarl.
....Yeeeeaaaah. THAT'S threatening. /sarcasm

I swear that guys is modeled off the main character in the japaneese manga "hellsing"
and he is a vampire hunter in the comic, coincidence? I THINK NOT!

Every time I see Worgen footage, I am reminded about the greatest, most important feature of the coming expansion: TOP HATS!
