BlizzCon 2010 exclusive pet Deathy still has no custom emotes and sounds

At the World of Warcraft art panel during BlizzCon, however, we were treated to a sneak peak of Deathy's custom animations, including jumping up into the air and scorching the ground in a torrent of fire breath. Suffice to say, it was really awesome. Hopefully we will get an update soon or, potentially, with 4.0.3.

Wait...people already got their Deathys? I ordered the DirectTV stream and it said to wait 6-8 weeks. I'm guessing only people who physically went got theirs asap.
Sleutel Oct 25th 2010 10:04PM
Yup, people who attended got a loot code in their bags. Us streaming subscribers have to wait a bit longers.

That's how it went last year too. People who actually attended Blizzcon got the codes in their goodie bags and can redeem them immediately. People who ordered the DirecTV stream have to wait 6-8 weeks.

Don't get me wrong, Deathy = awesome. However, part of me wanted to see a mount on alternating years after the Blizzcon bear popped up. Perhaps a Deathy the murloc mount would just be too OP though?

I don't see the point in making the streamers wait this long. Is it really such a complicated process?

As I posted on their forums after I learned the time frame for DTV customer:
"Seriously? Don't get me wrong; I understand it's a one-time thing like every other event. However, I can understand 6-8 days but WEEKS? Even the HSN has a shorter shipping time. Did we end up back in the 90's and I missed it?"

It will probably arrive with your next bill cycle, which depending on the time you get billed could be 6-8 weeks from now.

Wow.... way to take shortcuts.

Frankly, I'd rather they spend the time working on Cata or fixing bugs and issues from 4.0.1 than work on his own animations. I can deal with my Deathy randomly firing a nonexistent gun for a little while longer if that means they will fix the cog bug, for instance.
Skizzit Oct 26th 2010 2:02AM
Because it is the same team that works on coding bugs that animates npcs, right? I will never understand why people seem to think there is like one single group of people at Blizzard and they only work on a single issue at a time.
As far why the animations are not in game yet when they were shown at Blizzcon, they very well could have just finished up working on the animations and still had to code then into the game at that point. I am guessing it will not be too long before they are live. A week or two at most.

Animations have bugs too.
Sleutel Oct 26th 2010 8:32AM
I really don't see why this is getting downrated. As Skizzit so aptly observed, there's more than one team of programmers at Blizzard. And if the game is designed in a remotely reasonable manner, setting the animations and sounds for an NPC shouldn't be that hard. And the fact that they rushed out an unfinished major patch to get it live before Blizzcon shouldn't be an excuse for not getting something else done.
Imagine you just took your car to a mechanic. He was going on vacation that weekend and wanted to get everything done by the time he left, so he did some sloppy work on your car and it's still having some problems. You figured that while it was in the shop, you may as well treat yourself, so you also bought some really awesome (no seriously) leopard-print seat covers. But when you got the car back, you found out that not only were the repairs not totally completed, but the seat covers didn't have anything holding them on, so they were sliding all over the place and falling off.
Is your response, "Well, it still pulls to the right, so I guess it's okay he didn't put the covers on properly"? No--it's just one more piece of evidence for a rushed job.
Blizzard used to be the kind of company that *prided itself* on getting things right: better to release a *late* game than a *broken* game. I worry that what we're seeing here is a further symptom of "post-Activision Blizzard," where profits matter more than quality, and where the major decisions are in the hands of people who don't understand MMOs or the people who play them.

Well we don't have deathy yet, and yes I saw on the steam the new animations. Do you guys who went to the actual blizzcon have it already?
Spiritfire Oct 25th 2010 10:19PM
yep, we do.
BigBadGooz Oct 25th 2010 10:58PM
Yep and my blizzcon bear mount from 2008 still owns any murloc pet I wish we would get mounts instead of pets. He'll the murlocj suit from 2007 is badass
Drakkenfyre Oct 25th 2010 10:09PM
What I don't understand is why the correct sounds and animations weren't put in, when the pet went into the files awhile back. They could have updated them in that time.
Spiritfire Oct 25th 2010 10:18PM
because...maybe they were wanting to get the new mechanics out and get the patch out in time for blizzcon, and worry about the pet anims later, since that does take a lower priority?
Drakkenfyre Oct 25th 2010 10:21PM
Standard Murloc sounds -> Add reverb to them -> place as placeholder in the time between when the pet went into the files, and all the time spent on the PTR.
Al Oct 25th 2010 10:56PM
How could it be a lower priority before Blizzcon, when they showed said animations there?
Odds are they forgot to switch it on.
edgeblade69 Oct 25th 2010 10:12PM
And hopefully they'll smarten up and actually include the ability to disable the non-combat pet sounds without using an addon. Who in their right mind thought it was a good idea to listen to 20+ NCPs rifling or screaming or what not, nonstop while you're trying to check mail, the bank, AH, or read quest text or a chat channel?
