BlizzCon 2010: Update on man injured during dance contest

BlizzCon 2010 is officially over! While most enjoyed their fun and games, one player wasn't quite so lucky. We ran a report earlier this weekend about a man who had injured himself in the dance competition, falling to the stage twice and not getting up the second time around. The next day, we caught up with the dancer named Daniel, aka Darkdarius, an orc hunter from the guild <Obsessive> of Bladefist (US-H), who was thankfully on his feet and hanging out with the rest of his guild. Daniel was happy to give us a brief interview about his injury.
So Daniel, what happened exactly? The footage looked pretty brutal.
I was just jumping around [performing the undead male dance] and I fell. I got back up, but the second time I fell, I just heard a pop and I couldn't bend my leg at all, so they had to carry me offstage. It kind of felt a little embarassing.
Did you go to the hospital immediately after?
No, first I went to the first aid person at the convention center and she checked up on me. Then after that, I went to the emergency room and they checked me out, then told me that I broke a ligament in my leg.
Ouch! How long are you going to be in that cast?
Well, I still have to go back home to Arizona and I'm going to have to have surgery on my leg. Then I'll probably be in a brace for a couple of days.
Glad to hear it's not a major break. So would you call this a BlizzCon to remember?
[laughing] Yeah. I just can't wait to see all the YouTube comments!
Daniel and the rest of his guild appeared to be in high spirits despite his injury and were more than willing to pose for a photo, throwing up the horns in true undead style. Thank you to Daniel and the rest of the crew from <Obsessive> for the opportunity to chat, and from all of us at WoW Insider, get well soon!

The song choice wouldn't have made ANY difference, Gravity would have still been a harsh mistress on his dance style and he would have still fallen as .. guess what.. he would have still danced the same irregardless of the style of the song.
You can't really be that obtuse to really think that the song choice would actually make a difference .. can you?
The band did it for comedic effect.

Odd as it seems, the band playing the wrong song (which I think was the song for the female undead dance song) might have confused him enough to distract him from paying attention to how his weight was distributed, yaddi yadda etc. etc...

You can't really be that obtuse to really think I was being serious.. can you?

This guy is on my realm! Way to represent! :D

Considering the good relationship Blizzard has with childrens hospitals and their spirit of do-gooding for young people, I hope they will offer to foot the bill (pun intended) for the medical needs of this young fan.

He seems fine and with good friends
Yes that kind of accident happens sometimes, deceptively easy. It is painful and can cripple for a long time

YouTube trashers were bastarsd, judging him for whatever prejudice they have.

It's unfortunate some people have to bash him like that. It could've happened to anyone.
Personally, before he got injured I think he did an amazing job with the UD male dance
-- so props to him for getting up infront of all those people and rocking out.
If you're reading this, I hope you get well soon, Daniel :)

By the by, I really have to put the blame on Blizzard for this one: as I have said elsewhere, the stage floor was as slick as polished marble covered in ice, leading to not only this incident, but my own embarrassing fall earlier -I'm the guy in the kilt :) , as well as the difficulties had by many people during the costume contest. If I had known what it would be like, I might very well not have entered the contest myself.
However, best of luck to you, Daniel, you deserve recognition (like all the others) simply for having the moxie to get out there and have fun! Get well soon™! :)

DUDE! As a proud Dwarven Female, I want to tell you I'm a fan! You do that dance justice. :) Loved the kilt. :D

I wondered about that. I know I saw the wobbly hoove-heel girls and saw you slip. The front of the stage looked rather ominously glossy on the virtual ticket stream. Hope the guy heals up fast without complications. *waves a crutch* screwed up foot from just walking normally at work.
Also, AWESOME FEMALE DWARF DANCE. :p

Way to go to get an interview at wowinsider. Break a leg at Blizzcon.
zainwolf Oct 26th 2010 12:08AM
He's an undead... lucky his whole leg didn't just rot off! and at least he has a lower jaw...
;-)

I tore a knee ligament skateboarding 20ish years ago, and let me emphasize how important sticking with your physical therapy is. Trust me.
Piisuke Oct 26th 2010 3:49AM
Well, this teaches us 2 things:
1- that those arguing he was faking it, because he was ashamed are prices, as we kinda new anyway.
2- that you can get injured four the silliest things afnd you don't need an epic car crash for that.
well... most of us new this already, it is just a lesson for the trolls and pricks.
one thing I'd like to know from Daniel; didn't it hurt at all? cause the way he landed was pretty painful. look at his left foot.
anyway, Daniel is a champ. didn't made a big fuss at all. get well soon.

To guess from personal experience, adrenaline took over for a while.
pedge Oct 26th 2010 5:35AM
It's so cool he's taking the attention, good and bad in stride and not doing something like having his dad tell us we done goofed.
Lyrd Oct 26th 2010 8:21AM
Anyone else catch Jay Mohr busting on this kids nuts while he was filling in for Jim Rome on his sports radio show yesterday?

I was there when Daniel hurt himself. Man, I feel for you. He was pouring his heart into his dance, and had some mad undead ups. I figured a tendon had snapped when he came down from one of his high leaps.
All I can say is thanks for putting yourself out there and be proud that you gave it your all. Good luck in with your surgery.
Geez, Blizzard, share the loot with this guy who took the phrase "break a leg" to heart providing you some TV drama. He was 100 times more entertaining than that lame female host who just about single handedly destroyed the entire show.
Darkdarius Oct 28th 2010 1:03AM
Lol, nice to see so many concerns, TY Chad for making that comment. So I dislocated my knee and tomorrow (10/28) I'm getting it put back in place... All this stuff has been getting me tons of publicity... Everyones calling me E-Famous for going Viral xDD But it will all fade soon hopefully... Until I go to Blizzcon 2011 and Rock the stage again (No Problems Fur Shur ;)) But um ya, I got an Interview on AOTS and they sent me a Cata beta key so all is not lost xDD
