Doesn't really make a difference if you work a desk job or no. When you pull or break something like that, the pain tends to be around for life. I know. I've done it to both my knees and these days, one or the other will hurt or ache going up and down stairs, and that's years after the injury.

Good luck to this guy and hopefully his recovery is complete and he won't suffer lasting effects.
