It's no secret that we love Laura Shigihara, the composer for Pop Cap's amazing Plants vs. Zombies and now the voice of Cataclysm's singing sunflower pet. Shigihara has stepped into the WoW machinima world with her own original song and video, Blood Elf Druids, an adorable song making a plea to Blizzard for the inclusion of blood elf druids. Shout-outs to Tooga the turtle are pretty obscure, which makes it even more fun.
It's adorable, catchy and a great first shot at machinima. There's even a behind-the-scenes video posted here. If this is the quality of song we're getting for the first video, I cannot wait to see what's coming next. An orc ballad, perhaps? I can only hope.
Can we just have more Cranius regardless (not that I'd be opposed to a team-up)? I loved his work w/ Legs and there's been nothing from them for months... Cranius - come back! I'll even wear a big blue dress!
I have to agree, the song has potential but there are a lot of spots that need work and she really shouldn't have dressed as a druid yet stood in the entranceway of her house, should have been singing outside near some trees or something. Plus the last time she says Nightelves it is showing a blood elf dancing instead.
I adore the song, but I do think she shouldn't have done the scenes of her dressed as a belf druid in her house. She should have been out in a garden or something. Still, for a first time machinima, it's decent. (The song rocks. I'm just talking the machinima part being decent).
She's adorable though. I just want to give her a hug and squeal a bit.
IIRC, she does it there because that is where her webcam is. It's the same angle, I think, as the 'live' Zombies on your Lawn one she did a while back.
She doesn't have a studio or high-end camera or anything, just what she can do in her living room.
I bought the MP3, and while I play Alliance, I have to say that I could never say no to Supershigi!
You know, a compliment that deals with a woman's physical appearance in a situation where she isn't trying to be evaluated based on her physical appearance is still kind of belittling. It brings the focus onto her body, allowing people to approve or disapprove, and takes the focus off of the accomplishment.
I know you mean well, but it isn't really relevant to the quality of the video whether or not you approve of her body.
@Eddy, you should have seen the other Druid song a while back. It was either "Yay boobs!" or "Boobs, what a tramp!". Well, harsher words to those effects.
If I recall, there were a lot a comments about Sacco's physical appearance in his video review of the new TCG tin. In it he was A) not trying to be evaluated on his physical appearance, and B) not a woman.
People will make comments like this regardless of gender. Don't be so sensitive, take a compliment when it's given, ignore an insult when it's thrown, and try to understand the difference between the two.
"OMG THOSE SEXY LIPS" is the kind of "compliment" that is anywhere near appropriate, and I haven't read the Sacco comments so I suppose they might consist of someone making sexual comments about his appearance, but that's not usually how it goes, and would still be inappropriate.
That was adorable and the video was a lot of fun. I got a kick out of all the random references (never killing Kresh, walking Tooga home, the elf who was addicted to Blood Thistle). I hope she makes a Starcraft video next since I've read that she's really big into Starcraft.

Shigihara is adorable, and a great singer.
The visuals themselves are really bland, though, so I hope in the future she hooks up with a really good machinimator (machinimist?).
Dare I hope for a Cranius/Shigihara collab?

You have no idea how amazing that would be.

Her voice is absolutely adorable, for sure. I don't really think Blood Elves should be druids, but for her because of this song, sure why not :D

blood elves can't be Druids...you'd have to groom them way too often
Izaach Oct 28th 2010 8:09PM
Just let them be feral cats. That way, they can just groom themselves and eachother all day.

No no no, if we did that the entire population would choke to death on hairballs.....maybe that's why we don't have them now?

It's still way better than any other first time machinima I've seen, also the vocals are WAY better than MOST machinimas I've seen too lol

Thanks, Eddy. I hate it when people do that.

Yep, went and had a look at the Sacco thread and some of those comments were a bit inappropriate as well. Wrong in both cases.
