Scarlet Blouse Gentleman receives NPC for fact checking efforts

Unless you've been living in a cave since BlizzCon 2010, it's highly likely you've heard of the unnamed gentleman in the scarlet blouse who managed to catch Alex Afrasiabi and Chris Metzen in an error during the Quests and Lore panel at the convention. The man and his question have since gone viral, the video of his question and the answer receiving over 2 million views on YouTube. He's since posted a video in response to the internet's reaction, and the original video even appeared on The Soup as the clip of the week.
According to a post on Reddit, the popularity of his question and answer have not gone unnoticed by Blizzard staff, as Falstad has made his return to his rightful seat on the Council of Three Hammers, accompanied by ... a gentleman in a scarlet blouse. This NPC, named Wildhammer Fact Checker, is an obvious tribute to the man who was clever enough to catch the error and confront Blizzard on it. While the NPC does not appear to be on the beta servers as of yet, blue poster Valnoth confirmed the existence of the NPC on the official forums. Hopefully, Falstad's loyal Fact Checker will continue to keep the record straight as far as who should be where and who definitely isn't deceased, in the future.

Everytime I see something about red shirt guy this is all I can think of
Homer and June make a personal appearance at "The Android's Dungeon",
which is overflowing with cartoon cognoscenti, including Doug,
Benjamin, and Gary, the nerds from Homer's college days.
Doug: In episode 2F09, when Itchy plays Scratchy's skeleton like a
xylophone, he strikes the same rib twice in succession, yet he
produces two clearly different tones. I mean, what are we to
believe, that this is some sort of a [the three nerds chuckle]
magic xylophone or something? Boy, I really hope somebody got
fired for that blunder.
June: Uh, well, uh...
Homer: I'll field that one. Let me ask you a question. Why would a
man whose shirt says "Genius at Work" spend all of his time
watching a children's cartoon show?
Doug: [embarrassed pause] I withdraw my question. [starts eating a
candy bar]
-- First William Shatner, now Homer Simpson...,
"The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show"
Database: On the "Itchy & Scratchy" CD-ROM, is there a way to get out of
the dungeon without using the wizard key?
Homer: What the hell are you talking about?
June: You're a lifesaver, Homer, I can't deal with these hardcore
fans!

Props to Blizz for doing this! Really classy move on their part. Metzen and Afrabiasi seemed a bit taken aback during the panel (understandably, I don't suppose they go there anticipating having a blunder pointed out like this) so it's nice to see that their promise to fix it was genuine.

...and that they went the extra mile and recognized RSG. I wouldn't be surprised if this is their way of taking sides against the trollish treatment he's received from too many people.

I really agree! This is a GREAT way to give a WoW fan a "thank you for correcting us!" :)
In fact, just about the ONLY way xD
Lucidique Oct 30th 2010 9:15PM
Hahaha, that's really cool - both Shirt Guy and the Blizz response to it :)
Thumbs up!

It'll still be a great shout-out even if it's just a joke NPC in the beta, but I'd love to be able to /highfive that NPC if he makes it live.

I applaud Blizzard for this. Hilarious!

While this is a cool tribute, I actually am sad that Kurdran has been removed. Falstad only lead the Wildhammer became Kurdran left for Outland. I was really glad to see Kurdran finally return to lead his people...
Oh well. The guy probably deserves it for all the flak he's taken, and it's a cool idea. I just want Kurdran >.>
JR Oct 30th 2010 9:32PM
Red-shirt guy: Hello. I have... I just finished reading The Shattering yesterday and I noticed something. It's said that Falstad Wildhammer was going to be on the Council of Three Hammers, but in the beta it's Kurdran Wildhammer and Falstad is not in the game at all. What happened to him?
Metzen: Isn't Falstad dead?
Afrasiabi: Of course he is.
Metzen: From uh... Day of the Dragon? No?
Red-shirt guy: No, he survived, and in fact he was the leader of Aerie Peak in vanilla WoW through Wrath of the Lich King.
Afrasiabi: Of course, I...
Metzen: Yeah Alex, what's up with that?
(laughter)
Afrasiabi: Thanks for pointing that out. We're gonna get that fixed.
Red-shirt guy: Thank you.
Afrasiabi: You bet.

The 'Red Shirt' person is Insane Guy of Doom of Scrolls of Lore.
Prothero Oct 30th 2010 9:45PM
Well done. Not just to the fact checker, but to Blizzard for doing something I consider pretty stand-up. So frequently we see the ugly side of human interaction, this is an epic ending.
vinniedcleaner Oct 30th 2010 9:54PM
Good thing this isn't Star Trek... the guys in the red shirts always get offed
Blazing Rain Oct 31st 2010 12:12AM
Dangit Vinnie, you beat me to the trek reference. Oh well here it goes:
I hear unknown planets have the highest mortality rate for those in red shirts.
Mau Oct 30th 2010 10:24PM
Eh? I don't consider myself an expert in Blizzcon 2010, and I checked this site and mmochampion every 5 minutes, and its the first time I even hear about this guy and his question
Fyre Oct 30th 2010 10:57PM
that is way awesome :) good for the kid and good for blizz on having a sense of humor when busted lol!
wdm+hall Oct 30th 2010 11:02PM
Yet another example of how awesome Blizzard is. I don't know another company that "gets it" quite like they do. Someday players will be spoiled thinking their game companies should give a damn what they think. Oh wait...
Kudos to the kid too!

Can't watch videos on this comp right now - what error did he catch, can someone tell me? :)
