Today is Halloween in the physical world and also the last day of
Hallow's End in Azeroth. There is just no escape from costumes and candy, no matter where you go. For me, that's a good thing. This is one of my favorite holidays, being No. 3 of the four major chocolate holidays of the year. And I love the in-game version as well, with its silly achievements and delicious XP and/or cash for alts.
While most U.S. children will be trick-or-treating this evening, the bulk of the Halloween parties have already happened. In game, most of the dailies and achievement attempts have already occurred as well, but you still have time to try for your goals until tonight.
Do you participate in Halloween? If so, what did you and/or your child go as this year? Do you participate in Hallow's End? How close are you to finishing your goals?

I'm just glad you didn't dress up your kid in the Leia costume from the beginning of "The Return of the Jedi".
pedge Oct 31st 2010 8:36AM
...or are you? Why don't you have a seat over there.
pedge Oct 31st 2010 8:05AM
No Horseman's Reins for me, but I should have got a cogwheel mount. >:(
transientmind Oct 31st 2010 9:32AM
Yeah, sigh. No reins here, either. And that's after having done the horseman every available day. For two years in a row.
...Not to mention a marathon 48hr period of INSANITY over the weekend and a day off, setting an alarm to trick or treat every cooldown with the innkeeper, after hearing reports that the reins were dropping from treat bags now.
Oh well. There's always next year...
(I shouldn't have been surprised. I've been doing ZG 1-2 times per week, every week, for the last three years and never seen the mount drop. I'm pretty convinced that when you create a toon, you get an in-built hidden 'luck' stat that relates to drops. My main just happened to have a poor luck stat, whereas two of my guildies have =excellent= luck stats. Including oracle drake, brunhilda bear, reins and more. It's almost enough to make you re-roll...)

It just isn't fair. Biggs is right, I'm, never gonna get that mount. ;)
Necromann Oct 31st 2010 10:23AM
my luck was that i got the mount twice, but didn't get the pet(and the title) until today
Angrycelt Oct 31st 2010 11:45AM
Oh I got the reins... on the same character... 3 times. That of course, was not my mount-collecting druid main. *sigh* I even got 'em on my fresh 80 shammy alt.
I got the sword on my druid... 6 times.
At least I got the Holiday achievement on all the characters that needed it.

You may be asking yourself, did I drop the reins, the squashling, or a flimsy Female Orc mask...do you feel lucky...punk?

I got the mount and the title, which was the last one I needed to get my Proto-Drake and my 310% flying speed. I didn't get a hallowed helm until yesterday.. It was a nightmare.. on one day of futile trick or treating, I got transformed 10 times in a row. That's ten hours of sweet pain. I got 8 pets. 8!!! and never got the helm.. till it appeared in a treat bag. Thank god! The worst thing was that my account frozen up in between and I didn't have any money D: but I managed somehow to pay up and finish the meta. It was a crazy Hallow's End for me. And here in Chile, Halloween really established itself as a holiday, so I expected lots of trick or treating tonight :D Candy~~!

I've done the stupid horseman event every day since hallow's eve began on 8 different toons and haven't gotten the mount once, I have however gotten a grand total of 29 sinister squashlings and more hallowed helms than I could even count, so frustrating :/

For the record, Halloween isn't an official celebration in my country, although marketing teams of stores, toys, and bars have tried VERY hard each year to make it so.
Rufio Oct 31st 2010 9:12AM
Ditto for New Zealand and Australia. Shops try half heartedly and you'll see smatterings of kids around dressed up but it's certainly far from the scale of the other major holidays.
Noodlenose Oct 31st 2010 11:02PM
We had one lot of trick or treaters try their luck knocking at our door, but we ignored them and they went away.
Sugarnotch Oct 31st 2010 8:10AM
I'll be wearing a red blouse this evening :) and to the midnight launch of cata for that matter.
cygnus Oct 31st 2010 1:31PM
O.o you sir are a genius... lets all get red shirts to the Cata release!!!
pedge Nov 1st 2010 2:37PM
And remember to break a leg and watch for the rookery whelps.

I'm confused about the halloween thing... it's today (sunday) here in the UK, but I kept seeing Americans talking about it being yesterday.
/slowminded
I just need a damn toothpick to complete the achi, gonna be camping inkeepers tonight!
Rufio Oct 31st 2010 9:13AM
Mate, the RNG is ridiculous. In my case I didn't see anything all, what, 10 days or however long it was. This weekend they've dropped four times. four. I WOULD send you one but...
teelie Oct 31st 2010 10:37AM
For some people they felt it inappropriate to celebrate Halloween on a Sunday so they did it Saturday. Not everyone agrees though so some people celebrated Saturday and some will/are on Sunday.
roseclown Oct 31st 2010 11:05AM
Really depends on your area. For instance, back when I lived in Alabama everyone would do it Saturday if it was on Sunday. Up in Virginia in the big city, everyone does it Sunday.
But hey, love halloween. And I am sure God will not be offended by me rocking out in my punk fairy costume for the trick or treaters. And if he is, then he would prolly have an issue with Christmas trees, being a pagan fertility symbol and all.
