Breakfast Topic: Goodbye Hallow's End, hello Day of the Dead
That's it! No more chances to try for the mount you've all been queuing up for until next year. Hallow's End may be over, but the in-game holiday fun is not. For one day only, you can participate in a fun little event that pays homage to Dia de los Muertos, the Latin-American holiday for remembering family members who are no longer with us. The Day of the Dead includes a dancing achievement and a quest to feed the dead, complete with pop culture references. <It came from the Blog> had a lot of fun last year, as you can see in the gallery below.
Are you participating in the Day of the Dead today? Also, did you reach your Hallow's End goals? What do you think of the drop rate of the Horseman's reins? What would you change about the holiday? Personally, I would like there to be a way to douse the fires with fewer people toward the end of the holiday. I think it would be nice if an NPC stepped in to help out after so many failed attempts in a row. That way I could still parade my alts through Brill on a daily basis, rather than scheduling an onslaught of guildies to get it done in a few seconds. What do you think?

I got my mount on day 1 along with about 8 brooms, 6 sinister squashlings and 8 hallowed helms, but for the life of me I could not get a toothpick, so i geuss it will be another year before I can complete the meta for "what a stange long trip it's been"
Oh Bother!
Saephon Nov 1st 2010 8:30AM
No toothpick here either. With each passing day, I kept telling myself I had to see ONE before the holiday was over. Blizzard wouldn't make me wait an entire year for something just because of RNG. Not the Blizzard of 2010, surely?
Oh well. Just pixels right? *holds back nerd tears*

I had various problems. On one char I cuoldn't get the toothpick. On another char I never could get a Hallowed Helm :(

I had a character that I couldnt get the toothpicks for as well. Yesterday I was resigned to not finishing the holiday on that character. Late in the afternoon though I did get it...and on the next three trick or treats as well.

You know, I'm glad to see it wasn't just me. I would check on WoWhead and see that Toothpicks were the 2nd-most-common item dropped from treat bags (11%), yet I would get everything BUT toothpicks. I got several Hallowed Helms, Sinister Squashlings, tons of candy, and enough masks that I actually completed the "Mask for all Occasions" achievement. But not one toothpick.
It was made especially frustrating when you would see some random level 3 character saunter up the an Innskeeper and get the "Sparkling Smile" achievement. /facepalm was the only appropriate response.
My wife told me "It's because Blizzard knows you farmed the Horseman's Reins on all your 80's and they're getting back at you."
And then I got my pack of toothpicks at 3:50am this morning, ten minutes before the holiday ended.

...and I got toothpicks 4 times in a row. :(
I also managed to get the mount, though it seems like a lot of people did. I wonder if they turned up the frequency of the drop as compensation for the Cogwheel of Death problem that plagued us for a good portion of the holiday. Not that I mind! Greatest Mount Ever.
I like the Day of the Dead. Fun concept, simple execution, great costume. Can't wait to take it in against Arthas tomorrow night. :)

I have 5 80s and not a single one of them has the mount and I ran every day. That's 70 runs for the mount and not a single mount for me, everyone else got the stupid mount, but not me. I actually had a group on my main have everyone but me get the mount. I had several groups complain that they got the mount AGAIN. I even saw one jerk on the forums complaining that only 7 of his characters got the mount.
I hate RNG and it hates me back.

I had 82 toothpicks by the end of Hallow's end around 4 brooms and 8 squashlings

Ever since I hit 80, and the Holiday bosses were mine, I have had insane luck.
Midsummer? Got the Scyth and Pet
Brewfest? Got the remote and ram on the first day, got the kodo on the last.
Hallows End? Got all the achieves (though just 4 away from a mask for all occasions), and the horse.
Also, when my guildies helped me out on a quest I needed once, they got The Battered Hilt for their efforts.
They now joke about rubbing me for luck. While I feel guilty that I have only been playing a year and the holidays love me, I feel better in that I never win the rolls for gear if someone else needs it in Dungeons. It all balances out.

From the Hallows End event, I didn't get the mount on my main. I did have to delete about 20 Squashlings over the course of the event however.
My favorite moment was finally getting the last mask for the "A Mask for all occasions" achievement at 22:05 last night with one more Trick or Treat attempt to spare.

Same. :(

Gratz on the Mask thing. I got down to 5 left. So, hopefully next year.
Kurtis Nov 1st 2010 9:15AM
Why do they have to make those things with no sell price? Oh, and then you have to type "DELETE" to confirm that you're deleting it. If I can't use it, at least let me get something marginally useful instead, and don't waste my time when I have to delete it.
Aaron Nov 1st 2010 10:03AM
I ran 5 80s every day and between the flying broom and the pet I can't tell you how many times I had to type delete. I did get the HH reins on 2 of my 5 so persistence does pay off.

I feel Hallow's End had some sort of karmic value to it, this year. During this last Brewfest, I got the Brewfest Ram on all three of my 80s, with the last one getting both the Brewfest Kodo and the Brewfest Ram in the *same bag*. My wife, however, got *nothing* but Emblems every single day.
Hallow's End rolls around and I get *nothing* but masks, while my wife looted the ever-coveted Horseman's Reins...on her Warlock. She hasn't stopped bragging about it since. :P
Stephanie Nov 1st 2010 10:48AM
@loop_not_defined: I have to agree. For the past year I've gotten everything* I've gone after on my main usually with little effort. It seems as soon as I decided "I want that" I got it. It got to a point where guildies asked me on farming trips as a good luck charm.
And now it is gone. And I have to try and act happy for my friends. Especially the ones that got the Reins on their main on the very first day.
*for exception see: Stormchops Recipe.

It would have been nice if they made some of the items account bound. I just felt like I was doing something wrong deleting all those Sinister Squashlings, when my alts just couldn't get a hold of one.
Aris Nov 1st 2010 12:06PM
After all the trick or treating and horseman slaying and fire putting outing I've done these last few years, it stuns me that I still haven't seen two masks. And don't get me started on those reins... /grumble
Even still, this is one of my favorite holidays in WoW and the horseman is easily my favorite holiday boss. I love his voice, his laugh, his prose, his drops, and he even has a suitably dreary back story! Would be awesome if the helm could be itemized to be worn by clothies. Would love to belt out that laugh while casting heals at my raid!

I have run the horseman dude every year and no mount. I have 5 toons able to run it. Before the DF I never saw it drop, back when you could run it a million times a day. My brother in law,who could get Frostmourne from a Winter's Veil gift, got the mount of course. It also took over a year for me to get the Oracle mount so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
Eisengel Nov 1st 2010 8:35PM
3 years... three... years - and I have seen the mount drop once (and of course I didn't win the roll). Back when you could run the HH once for each person who hadn't killed him that day I killed him between 5 to 15 times a day... every day (no mount).
ENNUI !!!
