Just a suggestion, but you may want to clarify in the title that it's the BEGINNING of the event. People are thinking it's when the elementals actually attack hourly without the cultist's devices and the bosses are open. I don't think the hourly attacks are yet, right? Though my friend did say fire elementals attacked in Thrallmar so that sort of havoc is beginning, but it seems Stormwind is still relatively safe.

No, this is the event. It may just be starting but in zoned all over Azeroth (and Outlands) elementals are spawning and you can already get an achievement from it. See Wowhead.com's article on "Tripping the Rifts" (minus the quotation marks) for more info.

To answer Robin's query, the event is live on EU servers and has been for a couple of hours or more. I think we got it at the same time as US servers. :)

This is going to be going for a long time.
Don't worry. By the time it gets to the "cities are under attack" phase, you are probably going to get sick of it. The city attacks happen every couple of hours. And it won't stop until probably 4.0.3a.

I was in Thousand Needles questing when I was stomped by one of these things. It was kinda funny, here I was a lvl 26 warlock killing the centaur, when all of the sudden I see this rift appear and water elementals start pouring out of it. These elementals went on to eradicate every last one of the centaurs in the area they were in, and then mill about. I tried attacking one, just to see what would happen, and I swear that though lvl 30, this thing took down my Felguard in two hits, and my clothie butt in one.
