The Shattering hits The New York Times best-seller list

Despite having just been released earlier this week, The Shattering by Christie Golden has rocketed into the New York Times best seller list.
This prelude to Cataclysm follows major faction characters as they adjust to life after the war with the Lich King, before being abruptly attacked by the land and elements themselves. What is leading to these devastating earthquakes and ship-sinking squalls? Magni believes he has found the secret through his brother's research, while Thrall believes an already shattered world holds the secrets. If you're looking forward to the Cataclysm expansion, this is a must-read to catch you up and prepare you for the epic story about to be unveiled.
The book is available in the Blizzard Store (http://us.blizzard.com/store/details.xml?id=1100001208) and all fine book retailers.

I'm glad that there is the opportunity for WoW related things to reach out beyond just the audience of people already playing the game, and hopefully lessen people's stigmas against Warcraft in general. I may pick up a copy of this book and show it around! :0

I was just about to post something similar to this. I hope that things like this will make people realize that World of Warcraft, and Warcraft in general really, isn't just a game but also a work of art.
People seem to forget that WoW is mostly just an ever expanding piece of literature with a very enticing and well made visual element.

Congrats to Blizzard and to Christie. An excellent read.

Dang, that was fast.

That blue post just sounds like it's describing the Pre Cata even quest chain, lol.

More or less that is what the book is about. It isn't exactly how the game plays out but the detail it goes into about what is going on right now in the game.

So where is it in the New York Times' Best Sellers list?
Top, bottom, somewhere in the middle?
TimR Nov 1st 2010 6:22PM
#21 in Hardcover Fiction. There is a link in the article.

Considering it hit the best seller list just now, we can assume it's probably near the bottom. Then again, The Shattering hasn't been out for a good amount to time, so I wouldn't say it's unreasonable at all to think that it'll get much higher here soon.

@TimR: Thanks for seeing the link I didn't and letting me know.
@Razion: 21 is pretty good for just Hardback books. Wonder how much higher it would be if you counted in the digital copies. (I bought one for my Kindle)

I got my copy on my Kindle also.

I thought the best seller list was updated every week?
Chokaa Nov 1st 2010 6:49PM
It is, but 99% of the time a book doesn't hit the list il it's been out for a month or so. Exceptions such as the shattering and probably towers of midnight tomorrow do happen but they are rare.

Okay cool, thanks!
I really want to read this book. Hopefully I can get it from the library or for xmas.

Finished it a couple of days ago and while It's a good book it's awfully short. As a WoW player (first WoW book I've read) it felt nice to read and get a closer look at some favourite characters, but as a avid book reader it felt too short. Probably not Golden's fault - it's not like she can let her imagination soar too far - but more of a limitation of the short time span (Thrall realize something is wrong, Thrall goes to Nagrand, Thrall comes back).
Personally I found my favourite part to be about Anduin (he finally decided what class he wanted to roll). I wouldn't mind to read a few hundred pages more of his experiences.
Anduin for King 2011.

Absolutely agree about the Anduin storyline. Even as a lifetime Horde player, I genuinely found myself in love with his story & wanted to see a lot more of it. *Almost* made me want to roll a human just to go give the kid a hug.
Also wish it had been a bit longer myself -- seemed to wrap up way too soon & wanted much more. Would have loved to hear more about Thrall's visit to Nagrand. Still, fantastic story.

Congrats all around. I really enjoyed the book and am glad it is selling well.

KNAAAAAAAAA-... Oh wait, Christie Golden wrote this one? Maybe I'll actually enjoy a Warcraft novel then.
eblume Nov 1st 2010 6:52PM
Can anyone comment on how accessible this book would be if you haven't been reading the previous Warcraft novels? I'd like to read it to "gear up" for the lore in Cata, but I don't have the time to read all of the novels.

It can count as a stand alone, it mentions the nightmare but that is from the previous novel but other then that just playing the game you should be all set
