WoW Moviewatch: /afk trailer
Work warning: There's a bit of cursing herein.
The movie /afk is getting near release. A masterful mix of machinima styles and live-action performance, /afk tells the story of a young gamer whose only goal is to kill Onyxia. At the same time, his counselor warns the boy to free himself from the game, presumably before dire consequences happen.
If you have been following the YouTube channels of artists like Gigi, you probably have already heard of /afk. There have been a dozen or more machinima-makers working on the movie behind the scenes. I'm especially excited to see the release of the movie and see how the collaboration has turned out.
Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at machinima@wow.com.

This is an honest question: Am I horrible at hearing accents, or does he just not enunciate very well? I have no idea what was being said for most of the trailer. :(
If I can get past that in the actual movie, though, it looks to be pretty innovative and interesting. :D
Kurtis Nov 1st 2010 12:26PM
Yes.
Maybe?
I understood one word, at least. For those of us in somewhat more... umm... restrictive environments, might want to either add the /nsfw tag or the /wearheadphones tag...

You're not alone. There were definitely some portions where it was hard to understand what was being said.
However, the production values are top-notch, and the story looks compelling. They've already accomplished something most big-budget movies cannot: Make a trailer that actually tells you what the story is about!
There are SO many movies now, where if you saw the actual movie, you'd be AMAZED what it was about, having seen the trailer. It's like Hollywood got together and said, "Let's take a bunch of random clips, put them to dramatic music, and fit them into a 2 minute compilation in whatever order we like. And that's how we'll make every trailer from now on!"

Their accents just made it a little hard to hear. I get ya

I could understand perfectly fine everything the actors where saying. /Shrug

Whoa, this hits way too close to home.

not to be a total prude, since it totally doesn't bother me. But a NSFW tag for the little language might be good for the poor souls at work today! :D

Meh. There was ONE word. Unless you're in a totally silent workplace, and your boss pays WAY too much attention to what you're doing, you'll probably be fine.
I hear the word "fucking" more out of the guy at the desk beside me than I do out of my computer.

Congratulations on your sane work environment. Where I work, most people do swear like sailors in private, but a highly influential person was hit with a formal complaint through HR for swearing in "public" so we all try to mind our audience pretty tightly.
At least in the US, most workplaces will have some kind of "hostile workplace" regulation that covers swearing, among other things.

It's not just work places. With a three year old, I know that he will pick up just about any word he hears. I would hate to be the one discussing with his preschool teacher why he's been teaching his classmates some fruity language, and trust me ONE word is more than enough.

Offtopic but I was just at live servers and it seems pre-cata event has started.
I was idling at astranaar and suddenly 20 fire elementals came up and started to attack guards and us. After killing them we got buff that deals fire damage on ranged/spells/melee
I havent went to other places
ITS LIVE. Elemental rift on darkshore. Wind elementals etc!

I'm with Adonas. I... I really didn't get the point of the trailer. I sure hope that the real deal's going to be much better than this.
Downrate incoming, but... I genuinely believe that this didn't belong on WoW.com headline.
Bloodvein Nov 1st 2010 6:19PM
A video about WoW didn't belong on WoW Movie Watch? Sorry, but I have to disagree with you on that.
SR Nov 1st 2010 6:22PM
You're missing my point.
Bloodvein Nov 1st 2010 6:37PM
"I genuinely believe that this didn't belong on WoW.com headline." Whats not to get?
Perhaps you don't understand how the blog system works here. Every knew blog post gets posted to the homepage, thus going to the headline. Each new post knocks the latter post down a position, keeps the "headline" fresh. As far as not getting the trailer, it's pretty self explanatory and Mr. Gray did a great job on writing on it as well. What more do you want to know?
Dreyja Nov 1st 2010 8:25PM
I think it's pretty obvious that it's a trailer about a guy struggling with what the outside world tells him is an addiction? It's not unlike what started off The Guild. It could be great.
We often see trailers on here for longer works so I guess I'm confused about what part of it you think doesn't fit either. No worries though. I'm not down rating you.

Take it from someone in the film (we've seen the rough), it's a very compelling and AMAZING story!
I'm so glad I was apart of this project! /squees in delight

Tom Hanks, he's not.
