The Queue: Another Tuesday in Azeroth

Welcome to another Tuesday in Azeroth. It's a brisk 37 degrees outside in Northrend, the first frost is expected to by any day now. Good times.
Slaytanic asks:
Do you guys know anything more about the Insane title going away?
We don't. We know that the title will never be taken away if you have it now, but the ability to earn the title in its current form will be going away. There's no information on whether Blizzard will make another achievement like it at some point in the future; however, I wouldn't put it past them. It's not really too hard to make an achievement if you've reached exalted with XYZ factions.
Then again, I'm not really sure there'll be any insanely difficult factions to grind in Cataclysm, so there might not be a new achievement like that. Be happy if you have it now; you are truly a special snowflake.
Oskiee asks:
Is it just me or is Fallout: New Vegas a lot more addicting this time around? I'm having trouble chosing what im going to play now, WoW or New Vegas.
It's not you. I recommend playing as much New Vegas as you can right now, and then playing WoW when Cataclysm comes out.
Rufio mused:
Man, that really is a blast from the past (in) those old articles. It's interesting the the number of comments is usually around three to four, seldom more. It's obvious why, but it's certainly a different beast than the WoW Insider we know and love today, eh?
It really is. More mind-blowing: what we got in hits in one day's totality a year after we launched, we now get in 10 minutes at points during our BlizzCon coverage.
Most people don't know (or I gather, you could if you read some of those old posts), but our standards have evolved dramatically since we started publishing. Back in the day, authors wrote a post and published it whenever they felt like. Today, our writers pen a draft article, have it approved by an editor and a senior editor, then do more work on it, and then get it scheduled perhaps two days out. Very different process that produces very different results over the years. This is perhaps a little too meta for the Queue, but it's an interesting evolution in the context of internet publishing.
Bourne asked:
Will level 81-85 normal 5-mans award justice points?
They did not the last time I played, but that could change.
Shockologist asked:
Is it true that the entire reason that Blizzard revamped the entire 1 to 60 experience with this major shake-up is a result of Ghostcrawler's attempt to remove chests from the game?
Hmm ... I'm going to go with "yes" here, just for the hell of it.
Tim converses:
Hey Nerds, let's nerd out.
Fanfic. What are some popular and well-written WoW fanfics?
What's the plural of fanfic?
My favorite is the one I wrote, where the bar maid and the adventurer are about to get it on, Tenacious D-style. But with that said, I'd love to hear what others' favorite fanfixs are.
Your second question was just answered. This Queue is now diamonds.

What is the history of Thoradin's Wall? it seems like it could be a great place to set up a major battlefront between Aliiance/Horde now that Alliance has been booted from South Shore. But nothing much seems to have happened in Arathi...
Jonisjalopy Nov 2nd 2010 11:16AM
I believe it was built by the old King of Arathi, Thoradin, to help keep the trolls out during the early years of the kingdom.
Though, for one king to make something like that in his lifetime would be a hell of a thing.

@jonisjalopy
Can we get him back to build a wall in /2 to keep out the trolls?
stickybones Nov 2nd 2010 11:32AM
WoWwiki says it's the Scourge, but they could be wrong. You never know.
Alverian Nov 2nd 2010 12:11PM
Thoradin's Wall is a huge wall separating the Arathi Highlands from Hillsbrad Foothills. The wall protected Stromgarde and the Arathi Highlands from the invading Scourge.

My Characters name is thoradin! yay

funny thing, trolling does not make you a troll. the word we use as trolling comes from the fishing practice wherein you drag bait through the water until you get a bite from a fish. in the case of trade and the internet, the troller is dragging obnoxious comments and irritating errors in an attempt to bait the viewer.
so the person that does the trolling should rightly be a troller, not a troll. of course, the word troll as used to describe someone who trolls is embedded in the vernacular of the internet, and is going to stay that way, but i still find it an interesting thing.

I think Herman just Trollered us!
Herman Nov 2nd 2010 1:11PM
ha ha, but no really. anyway, after posting that i did some fact checking, and the term is troll, but i still think that grammatically that doesn't make sense.
macster Nov 2nd 2010 1:43PM
Isn't the fishing term TRAWL? And boats that trawl are trawlers, and the men who man the boats are trawlermen?
Bouncing Gnome Nov 2nd 2010 2:03PM
@macster
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trolling_(fishing)
And http://www.worldseafishing.com/lures/trolling_bass.html just to show that Wiki hasn't itself been trolled.
MisterRik Nov 2nd 2010 2:17PM
@macster - Yes. However, it seems likely that whoever coined the term "trolling" in it's Internet usage had no idea how the word was spelled, and the misspelling stuck.
As to Thoradin's Wall, I'm still trying to figure out why, if it was built to keep trolls out of Arathi Highlands, the ramps to the top of the wall are on the *wrong side* of the wall. Seriously, go look at it. The ramps are on the Hillsbrad Foothills side of the wall. Either Thoradin's capital was actually in Hillsbrad Foothills (rather than on the site of Stromgarde) and the trolls were in Arathi Highlands, or Blizzard put the ramps on the wrong side of the wall. I e-mailed Anne "Know Your Lore" Stickney about this a while back, but never heard back from her.

Allow me to help put this one to bed. In fishing:
"Trolling" refers to the act of dragging a line in the water (as opposed to casting and reeling in) behind a moving boat. The boat is active; the rod and reel are not.
"Trawling" refers to the form of fishing which involves dragging a strong net (a "trawl net") along the sea bottom. This is the method most commonly used by commercial fisheries.

So, can I troll trolls by calling them Trollers, Trawls, or Trawlers? On second thought, I better not open that can of worms. My realms trade chat is bad enough. x-D
ColbyWolf Nov 2nd 2010 3:40PM
" However, it seems likely that whoever coined the term "trolling" in it's Internet usage had no idea how the word was spelled, and the misspelling stuck."
May I suggest that the original coiner may have in fact known, but that he, or one of the people that adopted the term, adjusted it to 'troll' to fit with the creature of legend known for being astoundingly ugly, and doing things like lurking under bridges and eating billy goats/children.
And thus, slang was born.
Ryan Nov 2nd 2010 3:42PM
@stickybones - wowwiki says it protected Stromgarde from the Scourge, not that the Scourge were why it was built. The wall is in the Escape from Durnholde instance, which predates the Scourge by some years. There doesn't seem to be a true lore explanation for it.
Arrohon Nov 2nd 2010 6:02PM
I still think that trolling in Horde chat should be called gnoming!
Aracross Nov 2nd 2010 11:07AM
Why da troll?
Sicadastra Nov 2nd 2010 11:19AM
U jelly?
Ice Nov 2nd 2010 11:24AM
