My primary issue is that there's a "loss" of threat generation, when in reality at the moment it's a threat increase, I can lay down more BBs and HSs on a group and generate more threat.
Now from a survivability perspective it is often worth it to spread my Frost Fever simply because it creates less and slower damage over each encounter. The other thing is, for single target threat, diseaseless is a boost as well, snap aggro and long term benefit, I continually switch styles to gauge each(No, not a theorycrafter) and the result is diseaseless is better for raw aggro.
Opening with Icy Touch into Pest helps my survivability at the cost of some threat, but not much, and both diseases lose me a small chunk of threat on the individual and quite a bit on the pack, which would often go after DPS. I don't think Outbreak will fix this, it's on a long cooldown, one minute is ages in a Heroic for something essential like that, off and on when it's necessary for aggro I have to make everyone wait 15 seconds for DnD.
I think if Outbreak was on a shorter cooldown, 30 seconds, and we slightly adjusted the threat modifiers of the diseases themselves, it would make them essential again without screwing up the balance of DK tanks.
Just my two cents.

At the moment 1 minute is a massive cooldown in a zerg fest T11 heroic. However in cata ( which I hop will be more like TBC heroics) I anticipate 1 minute pulls of trash to be a long way down the line. One we reach the point where we are chain pulling Cata HC's then diseaseless will become a viable heroic tanking style.
ps. is everyone else as scared as me of trying to control zergy dps in the first few months of the new heroics where they actually have to cc and focus certain mobs dows?

"We're starting to think that the ship has just sailed on Pestilence. As I said, our original intent was that Blood Boil be the main AE attack, but now we're considering making Blood Boil more for tanking, letting Frost use Howling Blast and letting Unholy use Pestilence, because, you know, diseases. "

I believe he's referring to single target diseaseless. what I get out of this quote is that pestilence should be no longer part of the blood aoe rotation for threat at least.

I doubt Outbreak's cooldown is going to cause too much of an issue, at least early in the expansion. Between actually being stuck with gear within a tier of what the mobs are designed for (so the mobs take longer to die), the necessity of setting up CC, and the likelihood of the healer needing time to recover mana, it's going to be up most pulls anyway.
Also remember, when fights are longer diseases will tend to pull ahead (or at least closer); you've usually got a full set of runes at the beginning of a fight, and once you've burned those they become more precious, slowing down how often you HS/DS/BB/whatever, while the diseases keep ticking away at the same rate. A lot of the reason diseaseless is pulling ahead on live is how rarely anything lives long enough for the diseases to tick the full duration.

I don't believe that's true at all Boneyard, we weren't spending that time in TBC(though a revisionist view would have you believe otherwise), it may have been all the way back in the days of Scholomance and Stratholme where each trash pull was far more brutal than any of the bosses and took as long.
We left those days behind, it wasn't true in TBC or Wrath, which makes me feel Outbreak isn't going to be a very good tanking skill with that kind of cooldown.
I can see that, Jordan, makes sense, perhaps I wasn't seeing the forest for the trees.

I don't agree, Boobah, I've been watching lots of the Heroic videos, CC and directed fire/interrupts are useful, but from what I've seen healer mana and all does not equate an entire minute between each pull.
That's not to say it didn't happen, but for each individual trash mob to have a whole minute spent on it...it would take you 15 minutes just to reach the first boss in many instances, and the entire thing well over an hour and exhausting.
From the videos I'm seeing that hasn't been true.

What I'll do for 5-mans/Heroics in Cata: Guild, vent, no rush. Do that while leveling and gearing up and when I'll have a couple of pieces from BoT or BWD, then I might pug them, but not before. Also running 5mans with the guild improves the guild in more ways than ever before so..don't pug'em. my suggestion.
