"She pointed out that the only time you'd take damage was if you stood in fire, which should never happen anyway."
Ion's response could be extended a bit: If that's the ideal, why do we have raid healers? I suspect what this player meant was that only if you stand in fire will you take more damage than the healers can cope with. That is, she is assuming a sort of basic level of healing is continuously flowing in from the healers.
It's possible she didn't know she meant this. More than once I've run into people who seemed to think they needed no heals, and received no heals, when they were in fact getting heals, without which they would have died.
Which is exactly the sort of attitude that it sounds like won't work in Cata. You won't necessarily be able to rely on the healers keeping you alive as long as you don't do something dumb. You might have to actually do something smart.
Maybe I should spend the rest of LK letting the dps drop to 25% before I heal them, to get them used to how it'll be in Cata.

I think that is an excellent idea actually.

Lol. If you think the game is going to work like that then you're wrong. If they thought that people would be smart then why did they dumb down the talent trees so much? Smart people take the talents they need without being forced to do so. Why have they simplified stats on gear? For the smart people? I don't think so.
If being smart was a requirement of playing this game they'd lose half their subscribers, so no, ain't gonna happen.

@QQinsider
having more stats and reducing talents to 31 instead of 51 has nothing to do with intelligence. I don't think the trees have been 'dumbed-down' as you say. If insulting the player base's intelligence boosts your ego that's fine, but assuming that Blizzard simplifies the game for the dumb player is a rather stupid statement in itself. Who proposes the stats change? the dumb players? No, it was Blizzard. It's their game and they make it how THEY want it, not for you, not for me, not for the smart nor the dumb. /shrug
