Breakfast Topic: What do you do when you don't do anything?

I'm not entirely sure why I actually enjoy the wait for a DPS slot in a random dungeon. I used to run as a tank, but frankly, I can't run more than two dungeons that way because the queue keeps instantly popping and I keep clicking and next thing I know an entire day is gone and my mouth is dry and I have no idea where I am. Queuing up as a tank or healer (not that I currently heal all that much) is like sitting down with an entire bag of peanut butter cups. Yes, I will eat them all. Yes, they are delicious. And yes, I'm gonna get a stomach ache.
On the other hand, the DPS queue, while it means I'll get a lot fewer points, tends to be much more digestible for me. Run a dungeon, queue up for the next one, go get a drink (maybe use the bathroom) and settle down for a nice 10- to 15-minute piece of me time.
I know some folks really hate the queue. Some even heal or tank when they don't want to or know how to, just to avoid the wait times. Me, I really like those periods of lull between the action. How about you? Do you always have to be doing, or do you take some time and not do anything?

I do "nothing" when I don't do anything.

that's exactly the same reason I enjoy dps queues

Me too. I prefer tanking to playing Ret, but some days the endless string of dungeons is too much.

Yeah, I have to admit, on some days I hate DPS queues, but I've gotten to the point now where on my level-capped toon I catch up on DVR'd shows while I wait. On my leveling toons though, I usually quest. However, a lot of times I'm tired of questing so I work on professions or, again, catch up on my shows.
I also do the above when I'm healing at lower levels, as the wait time is often as long as DPS.

Me too. When I'm queued up I repair, clean out my bank and chat to friends or RP. 15 minutes isn't that long.

Yup, I decided to roll a lock so I wouldn't be tempted to queue as tank or healer; like to spend the time gathering or questing. It's much more of a game than the obsessive grind that insta-queue's breeds

Glad you like Terry Pratchet, I really laughed on nearly every page when I was reading his books. Which is your favorite?
While I'm waiting for queues I usually either read or watch some soap like Cheers, Friends or Frasier :-)

Generally... I end up RPing in random locations. There's not much else to do for me, I think :P
... I guess I could do dailies or make money... but that's boring.

Unfortunately over on the Rampage battlegroup, DPS queues are actually in the 30-60 minute range. I am one of those people that created a tank just so I could see the dungeons. I do love the different roll, but you can only sit around your computer for so long doing nothing before you go stir crazy. I hate having the game running and not doing anything of consequence since I can't run BGs or help port people or group up with my server friends.
But for a different view, maybe it would be a good time to turn up the volume on my computer all the way and clean up my apartment .

Yeah good point. I pretty much gave up on gearing up my many dps alts, just because I can't stand the queue. The thought of sitting around and waiting drives me insane. Now i just run tanks and healers, and mostly for heroics, just tanks. Yeah, i'm impatient. But i'm also not that that ret paly who hit the tank button just because. My tank gear is ICC level, and i'm at least somewhat competent.

Most of the time when I have downtime, but I still need to be in-game, I'll head to a tavern and put the music on loop. Especially when reading, I love the tavern music for Humans and Undead.

I run dailies while I wait for queues; I read while I'm on the loading screens. Sometimes that means I get more reading time in.
It's interesting to pop out of a dungeon into somewhere where all the mobs have respawned, too. For varying amounts of 'interesting'.

InB4 Fishing!
Wait... guys? Why is no one over here in the "fishing corner"?
What do you mean fishing isn't something the cool kids do??
pancakes Nov 10th 2010 8:39AM
Being cool isn't an issue once you've got a riding turtle.
Chetti Nov 10th 2010 9:41AM
I do fishing dailies, does that count. :) I used to fish A LOT when I was trying to max out fishing. I also spent some time pool-hopping in northrend to try and find the turtle (still eludes me!), and stocking up on fish to cook so that I don't have to carry a food thing and a drink thing.. one of the bonuses to finally leveling my cooking high enough to cook fish. But I've still got stacks of uncooked fish in my bank, although I think I should go back to looking for the turtle and stock up on more fish.. i'll need my supply cupboard stocked for the coming cataclysm.
