Short and sweet here, folks: Blizzard has announced that
race changes to goblins and worgen will be available immediately upon
Cataclysm launch. That's
12:01 a.m. PST Dec. 7. Additionally, there will no longer be any achievements for being the first of your race to hit level 85; the achievements are now class-only.
Great news for people who want to switch from their terrible male night elf druid into a dashing (literally) male worgen druid, or basically anyone who's tired of playing a troll of either gender.

My previous comments about the Goblin female voice notwithstanding, I really do think that people may be suprised about how unbelievably cool the Goblins are. I think their starting experience, their integration into the world, their defined personalities and cool models / animations are part of it - but I just don't know what it is, I love the greedy little conniving bastar...Goblins.
When I got onto beta the first thing I did was roll a Worgen and play through the starting experience. The second thing was roll a goblin. The Worgen I felt no desire to play beyond the starting experience - they goblin I couldn't put down. This was someone who has actually levelled up two level 80 alliance on another server and started using them to build up gold, achivements and heirlooms in expectation that Worgens would be so awesome and Goblins so lame that it would make me abandon the Horde. I'm also someone who *hates* playing short races usually.
Now I'm working out how much I can afford to spend on race changing as many as possible of my alts to Goblins.

Yeah, I'm gonna pay to change into a toxic-waste-creating, Azshara-defiling, goblin-slum-dwelling small green race.
Um, no no no. I will probably roll one sometime in the future to experience the starter, but I can't imagine sticking with it. If I want to look at greedy, polluting, money-grabbing characters I'll watch C-span congressional hearings.

you understand that many theorycrafters wanting to maximize their dps will likely race-change to goblin right? i personally prefer vanity over efficiency (and blood elves are the worst race dps-wise for dk's), but many people i know don't really give a shit about looks or rp'ing ("toxic-waste-creating, Azshara-defiling, goblin-slum-dwelling..."? wow) will more than likely race-change sometime after launch and before we begin raiding again.

How big is your sample size? Because I am DYING to play a Goblin.
A_V Nov 10th 2010 12:49AM
Thankfully your friends don't make up the entire game's playerbase.

Ah, my comment's almost identical to Sacco's. Apologies.
Here's an original entry: want to talk shameless? Spending a day incinerating a single spawn-group of NPCs to earn world-first Level 80. The fewer achievements encouraging players to act foolishly, the better — and a trade for new faces and rejuvenated gameplay is even better.

Moo-priest here I come.
I can loft around bubbling everyone, then dancing outside my own bubble and brining the nececarry funk to the mix.
Bryght Nov 10th 2010 2:38AM
me too me too!!! So freaking excited to have a cow priest!!! COWS RULE MOOO!!!
alpha5099 Nov 10th 2010 1:16AM
You shut your dirty mouth about trolls! Trolls are better than you. This is objective fact.
Murashu Nov 10th 2010 1:17AM
My only complaint about all this is that the only other option for my extremely feminine looking Blood Elf Paladin is to now be a freaking cow...
I'm quite pleased with the Troll Druid option though, especially since they took away treeform.
WTB the Troll or Goblin Paladin option please!
Bryght Nov 10th 2010 2:50AM
Cows RULE and Trolls DROOL!!!!! Come on you will love a Cowadin!!!
SG Nov 10th 2010 1:20AM
Well I'm surprised. With the world changes and new race/class combos I would've thought they'd be encouraging rerolls. At least this will lessen the starting zone crowds on launch day.
truth&light Nov 10th 2010 8:52AM
I strongly disagree with this idea to be available straight out of the gate of cataclysms launch. these new races are going to have unquie stories to tell and are a fresh breath of life into wows racial choices, having them available so soon is kinda taking away the feel of a ''NEW'' race and there epic introduction into the game.
BAD MOVE BLIZZ for the sake of eager players.
Let thes new races breath for a month or so before letting people faction transfer to them.
brownyboi Nov 10th 2010 2:23AM
Doesn't seem like too dumb an idea to me.
From all the hype about the new starting zones for Goblins and Worgen, people are still going to roll alts to see it, whether or not they'll be able to rock up with a race-changed 80 on release day.
What this will do is cut down on the heavy duty lag in Ashara and Gilneas on day one, a lot of people would be out to power level their new Goblins and Worgen on Dec 7th.
Maribel Nov 10th 2010 2:30AM
I kind of agree, but when BC came out, we were seeing level 70 draenei and blood elves in... maybe a week? 10 days? And that was without heirlooms. I don't remember exactly how long it took. I just remember installing BC, logging in for the first time, and seeing someone named "Firstdraenei" standing by the bank in Darnassus.
This will satisfy the people who'd otherwise have been grinding incessantly, and it won't make the actual starting experience any less epic for those (like me) who are planning to roll goblins and worgen from scratch.
orca1375 Nov 10th 2010 9:40AM
i agree with you whats wrong with blizzard first the nuke the path of the titans thingy then they destroy the 25 man content and now they destroy th world and say oh btw you can chnge and skipp the starting areas all toghther and just chnge your race to worgen/goblin and start from lvl 80.. if they do anymore changes to make this game i m going to cancel my pre-order and either wait until swtor comes out guild wars 2 and play those ..
sherekhan88 Nov 10th 2010 1:33AM
This is rather lovely! I levelled my Druid with the intention of going Worgen, and it's lovely that I would be able to go right out of the gate (of Cata) with my toon as he's supposed to be!
But I'm wondering, would people who have race-changed like this be locked out of the 'first' Lvl 85 Worgen/Goblin/class Feats of Strength? It would be fair if they did.

"Additionally, there will no longer be any achievements for being the first of your race to hit level 85; the achievements are now class-only."
Answers that portion.

Worgen Druid and Worgen Warrior here I come!

Maribel Nov 10th 2010 1:59AM
Huzzah! Now people can stop asking about that on the Queue!
Well, I can dream.
