Short and sweet here, folks: Blizzard has announced that
race changes to goblins and worgen will be available immediately upon
Cataclysm launch. That's
12:01 a.m. PST Dec. 7. Additionally, there will no longer be any achievements for being the first of your race to hit level 85; the achievements are now class-only.
Great news for people who want to switch from their terrible male night elf druid into a dashing (literally) male worgen druid, or basically anyone who's tired of playing a troll of either gender.

Ok,I was planning on race changing and sprinting to 85..Until I saw the new tier gear...
I'm not peachy keen to have my hunter look like he's gutted a frog and crawled inside..
http://www.wow-serbia.com/images/stories/news/cataclysm/tier11/hunter/hunter_tier11_blue.jpg.
I mean, seriously?...
So folks we're going the scenic route! Taking in the sights! By the time I crawl to 85, hopefully they'll have released new tier gear and the incentive to run instances and gear up will be in place.
One issue for me is that my Worgen class of choice was DK..So no starting zone for moi..
Bad times..Guess I'm rolling twice to play those puppies.
Stoop Nov 10th 2010 8:35AM
I don't know what faction you play, but hunter tier actually looks best on trolls and goblins IMO
Tim Nov 10th 2010 9:31AM
Hmm, true.. Tier always looks crud on the human models..This is the only pic I've seen of the tier 11 gear though :(.. If anyone has any links for other races that'd be warsome. I'll come around and hoover your house..clean your tiles with a tooth brush...Just up those tier pics!
Ahem back on topic.. *don't stone me!* It's a troll shaman I'd be looking to race change to goblin..Makes zero sense lore wise but those totem models give me wood.

I dunno, T11 is better in my opinion than T10... At least you wont have to endure the jokes anymore...
"Hey look, his helmet is happy to see you!"
"So, can we agree that the hunter is now a true d*ck head?"
"Armor by enzyte."
etc...
Our Hunter lead actually had a macro that emoted "/e is hung like a hunter!" when he enabled his helmet...
Tim Nov 10th 2010 11:18AM
Damn straight..It was my first thought..Like how phallic can one helmet be?..Oh right, that much...Do they not have knob jokes in the states??? That little number was never on display..I actually preferred the tier 9 set, only on horde side though..The alliance version looked like a cheap persian rug.

I don't know how long it takes to change your race but the realm transfer lasted two days during 4.0.1 patch days. Few days after my next character realm transfer lasted 20 minutes.
You can change your race immediately upon Cataclysm launch but be careful because it's possible to not be able to play a few days. :-)

This is great news!!!! I'm psyched I don't have to wait for all the worgen rerolls to level. I can start hunting them down and killing them at higher levels right away!!
Hello worgen, I'd like you to meet flame shock and lava burst. I love the smell of roasted worgen in the morning :)
mechabahamut Nov 10th 2010 8:19AM
Does this include the new Race/Class combos as well, because I really wanna change my Draenei Shaman to a Dwarf. Thanks!
HeroJéz Nov 10th 2010 8:36AM
One day, I hope there's a catastrophic event server-side and everyone gets a free Faction and Race change for every one of their characters... I'd love to know how the balance would shift from the 'Cool-5-Years-Ago' Horde to the 'Actually-Most-Awesome' Alliance.
Mep Nov 10th 2010 8:39AM
terrible... just terrible...
Zectre Nov 10th 2010 8:58AM
Heres the funny thing about this whole ordeal, and this is why Blizz is going through with it.
Achievement whores won't be getting "world/server firsts" with those particular races, afaik.
Secondly, if each player playing right now payed for one character, thats roughly 2.5million dollars right there. They have gauged how much players like the Worgen and Goblin races, so they're going through with allowing it from day one.... they're just disabling achievements to that particular race.
I think, however, that we'll be experiencing players race changing 80s and then being thrown in the starting zones to get a taste of their starting zone regardless.
Tragic.
pedge Nov 10th 2010 4:11PM
Even though I plan on doing a change for one of my toons I agree that getting rid of the Achievement is a real shady way of having a midnight racial clearance sale. Amazing they did that and not just hold off for a couple weeks. The only "Vision" they have is dollar signs. But live, learn and reroll I guess. :P
orca1375 Nov 10th 2010 9:19AM
if they do this im quitting, first it was path of the titans they got rid of that then they nuked the raid content 25 loot same as 10 man come on ..get real what are they trying to do the ptr has been out for months the beta been out for months and they cannot realese the game until dec 7th.. it me it seems to be done.. thre just playing the anticipation game alot of peeps are starting to leave. I have not played in over 2 months cause there is nothing to do nobody is doing icc anymore they changed the talent trees and they put the new talents in effect before the expansion came out. i have spend thoussands of dollars on faction chnge race changes changing relms etc.. plus my subscrition every month. i was soo excited about cata now its getting to a point where I will wait until swtor comes out or guild wars 2. becase blizzard is just killing there own game i wonder if there doing this by purpose. the next things they say is its going to be free to play..
WOW_Addict Nov 10th 2010 10:28AM
Well then I guess we won't be seeing you online, they have every intention to follow this through.
Look, they decided on a Dec 7th release and they are building up to that event through the pre-cataclysm events on live. Peeps are not leaving. They are posting the highest number of players ever right now. People are excited and eagerly awiating the release. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I hate when people use the whole, if they do [] I'm quitting.
No one is forcing you to race-change. I for one will not race change.
People are still running ICC on my server. I have enjoyed the challenge of learning how to play my chars over with new talent trees. It keeps it interesting, IMO.
I think Blizz is doing a great job. Hell, they have to be doing something right, 12 Million players.
pedge Nov 10th 2010 4:13PM
No offense but I agree, the whole "I'm quitting" is just really lame man. Do you think there's a Blizzard staff member reading your post with a tear down one cheek saying "...guys...you have to read this, get over here...."
sprout_daddy Nov 16th 2010 11:11PM
Well, if your standard conversation in WoW is anything like that little diatribe, you might have an answer as to why no one wants to run ICC with you.
You should avail yourself of the insta-quit option if it's such a big deal.

Terrible NIght Elf Male? LOL, lol and lol.
NIght Elves are quite cool.
I'd rather be a male night elf than a wannabe fashionable emo Worgen any day of the week...
pedge Nov 10th 2010 4:15PM
Male Night Elfs are so tall and lanky. They all look like Howard Stern running around. :D
Jarett Nov 10th 2010 9:46AM
I wonder if you can setup the race/faction changes a day or two before launch (to avoid the obvious huge influx of players trying to do it), and just not activate the change until after its available. Basically get the little change icon, and just not do it until after launch.
Lissian Nov 10th 2010 10:09AM
I can see why Blizzard are doing this, they are a company with the purpose of making money from their product. But unless a race change will make your character feel more appropriate for your class/professions, I don't really see the point in just changing for the sake of it when there is a whole new world to explore and enjoy...
