The Classifieds: Seven hours of Gondria

Do you know Gondria, the spectral cat of Zul'Drak? It's a rare spawn beast that is highly sought by many hunters who are looking for a truly unique pet. It can take a player months to find Gondria, and there's never any assurance that Gondria will actually be found. Unless, apparently, you have a truly awesome guild.
Solaraxe tells the story of how the guild <Circle of Blame> on Stormrage (US-H) held Gondria for over seven hours. As a team effort, they defended the cat against the Alliance and accidental death. According to Solaraxe, they eventually kited the spectral kitty all the way to Grizzly Hills, where the guild's hunter was finally able to log on and tame the coveted beast. The real trick of the story, again, is that members of <Circle of Blame> kited the kitty for seven hours.
This is truly an epic accomplishment. If finding Gondria and helping guildmates weren't enough to make it an act of uberness, the sheer timeframe of seven hours makes it amazing. My hat is off to <Circle of Blame>.
Random Acts of Uberness
It's when another player lights up your night with precise play, a wicked sense of humor or unexpected generosity that your login becomes something to remember. Share your Random Acts of Uberness with theclassifieds@wow.com. Keep things brief (150 words or less, please), and be sure to list everyone's character names and home realms or battlegroup.
Kdorf from <Eternal> of Kargath (US-A) Cataclysm burnout had hit Kargath hard and only <The Iron Fist> was still working on heroic Lich King. <Eternal> had transferred to the server already with a heroic Lich King kill and bent over backwards to avoid getting the server feat of strength. One night while both guilds were fighting the Lich King, Kdorf whispered the leader of <The Iron Fist>. An auto-reply feature showed that <The Iron Fist> had already got the heroic Lich King under 20 percent with about 23 people still alive. Kdorf called all damage stopped on their heroic Lich King, giving <The Iron Fist> a chance to secure the Realm First. <Eternal> sat with Arthas spinning around under 10 percent for a good 10 minutes, giving the home team a chance to finish the content first. -- Beth of Kargath (US-A)Employment: Guild recruitment
If you've not already started advertising for Cataclysm raiders, now's a great time to put out your message. After all, the release is only about a month away, and when the expansion officially hits the servers, we're all going to be very, very busy.
Send in your guild name, realm, a link to your guild website or armory listing and a sentence or two on your guild's focus (10-man, RP, late-night raiding, whatever) to theclassifieds@wow.com.
10-man raiding and social <Blood and Honor> of Tanaris (US-H) is recruiting new friends and raiders for the upcoming expansion. We are actively running 5-man heroics and existing raid content as a guild and will be running multiple, 10-man groups in Cataclysm. We will be keeping the small, close-knit attitude of 10-man raiding with the advantages of a larger guild. Running multiple groups will also allow for flexibility in raid times. We have grown to over 200 members in our six weeks of existence and plan to cap out at around a 500-member roster.
Casual and serious <Fusîon> of Chromaggus (US-H) is a newer 10-man guild and we are recruiting several classes and roles for Cataclysm. We are currently 11/12 heroic ICC-10 and we are continuing to push for heroic Lich King prior to Cataclysm. We offer both casual and more serious raiding options. We will also be offering PvP options in the form of arena teams and guild-supported rated battlegrounds. Our raid nights will be Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays with start times at 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. EST. PvP nights will be supported on Wednesdays.
Family-friendly <Blooded Dragons> of Uldaman (US-A) is now recruiting members of any level or class. We are a fun-loving and semi-casual guild that is family-friendly. We have Ventrilo, guild calendar, a tabard and a website. Try us out; if it is not a good fit, we will have no hard feelings.
Mature and social guild <Steel Toed Stilletos> of Dunemaul (US-A) is recruiting all levels and classes for a mature, social guild. Leveling for some, raiding for others, but a place to call home for everyone. Filling spots for members, raid members and raid leaders. A good attitude and a sense of humor are more than welcome; buttheads need not apply. Guild charter and application can be found on the guild site.
Need caster DPS and else <Best in Slot> of Stormscale (US-A) is a west coast, 10-man, hard-mode raiding guild ramping up for Cataclysm. We are currently looking for caster DPS and a holy pally or a restoration druid to help finish off our raid roster. Our main raid day is Wednesday with a second day to be determined once our roster is set. Submit an application to our forums if you're interested!
People first <The Tribe> of Aggramar (US-H) is looking for great people, not GearScores. We raid at least two nights a week from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. CST and we take raiding seriously, but never at the expense of real-life priorities or our friendships within the guild. Additionally, we create our own events like an in-game "Secret Santa" gift exchange around Christmastime and organized competitions (scavenger hunts, world PvP events, hide-and-seek, etc.) are just a few examples. We invite you to check out our charter and application forum!

That was sweet of them to wait on LK for the home guild to get it. Good show!

Hearing stories like these restores my faith in humanity. Well, digital versions of it, wielding ridiculously large weapons with lots of glow-y effects, that is.

I want to go to this server, make a toon, and tell them that every guild should be as awesome as them for doing something like this.
Corath Nov 10th 2010 6:10PM
Both the headline story and the random act of uberness truly is awesome. To see a guild come together to help their own, and competing guilds to help each other out for achievements... it truly is uber.
Great job!

Agreed. It is nice, but maybe unsurprising with so many players, to read of random acts of uberness. But when it comes from top-tier raiders, that is very nice indeed.
Ice Nov 10th 2010 6:11PM
Thats really something about the LK kill! Its awesome that there is still people like that. And on WoW. I like reading this article after frustrating hours on dungeons where people call names and be jerks and act they know it all.
Too bad the article is so short. Submit more stuff people, world cant be that cold? Right?
Tirrimas Nov 10th 2010 6:11PM
<Eternal> - that's CLASS. Truly Uber.
<Circle of Blame> - that brings a tear of joy to this jaded old hunter's eye.
Dreyja Nov 10th 2010 6:11PM
That Gondria story fills me with joy. Soppy. Pink. Unicorn-filled. Joy. :D Those people are awesome.

It´s so Fluffy!
Eregos ftw! Nov 10th 2010 6:12PM
That's incredible that they would let these people get the server first. Most people would just go for it.
Dukah Nov 10th 2010 10:11PM
How did they not kill Gondria?
Any bit of damage that hits her can't be healed back up....
Pat Nov 10th 2010 11:04PM
I'm thinking a Resto Shaman or someone may have been the one holding threat or maybe just a few Shaman.. Stoneclaw totem trail? haha.
How they kept it alive when Alliance showed up I don't know. Would love to hear more about this :)

You can force a reset on the mob and have someone where they run back to. A mob who resets back to where they were standing gains full health.
As for the question below me, a mob without a "leash" on it can be kited anywhere that doesn't require zoning.
Possum Nov 11th 2010 2:11AM
sheeping a mob also restores it's health
Dendaris Nov 10th 2010 6:14PM
How do you kite a mob out of its normal territory? Won't they just evade and go back to where they were after a short distance? I know that Zul'Drak and Grizzly Hills share a border, and maybe the distance kited was not that far. But still, I have to ask.
Either way, it's an impressive act of selfless dedication to protect a mob for that long just so 1 person can tame it.
Catacomb Kid Nov 10th 2010 9:21PM
I am also interested in this question.
Artificial Nov 10th 2010 9:29PM
I think some of the rare/specials that have extremely wide ranges that they normally roam can be kited pretty much anywhere.
G01851 Nov 11th 2010 7:41AM
Two of Gondria's spawn points are literally right on the edge of ZD/Grizzly Hills border (my hunter tamed him there) so it's not much of a move really ;)
funkybacon Nov 11th 2010 1:02PM
Used to be possible to kite mods LONG distances by doing an aggro switch. One person gets aggro, and then another grabs it with a taunt or heal or whatever, then the other grabs it back etc, each time resetting the distance a mob could travel from that point. Back in the old days I heard of people kiting dragons into goldshire using that trick, but I was under the impression that was "fixed".
Meiji Nov 11th 2010 1:02PM
I think if a mob isn't chained, it won't reset as long as you keep damaging it. If you run too long without dealing any damage, it will reset. That's my understanding anyways, and possibly flawed.
