One of the many nice things that
Cataclysm is doing for the low-level quester is finally getting rid of the level 1 to 60 "clown suit." Every 10-level range has its own specific set of matching quest rewards, giving you a unique look every handful of zones. And they don't look half bad! In fact, some of the sets look pretty darn cool. Speaking from experience, leveling from 1 to 60 in the beta was a lot more exciting, not just due to the new quests and mechanics, but also because I couldn't wait to see what my new gear would look like when I hit a new leveling milestone.

I think this is great! I rather liked what they did with Wrath. Even if you still have a mix of greens, blues, and some epics your character still looks really good. I'm hoping this means mixing and matching won't make your character look *awful*, like it did before.
And sheesh, people will complain about ANYTHING. XP

I liked the clown suits! At least everyone looked distinctive back then. Now everyone looks the same wearing the heirloom shoulders and chest :(
Ballox the Insane Nov 11th 2010 10:07PM
It was a right of passage to wear clown costumes. Like "I'm working my way through the world (...of warcraft) with the best gear I can get. Fashion be damned. I guess it's a Belf's world (...of warcraft) these days.

I love how these new low-level gear sets look, and it'll be nice to get away from the unfortunate circumstance of having brown shoulders, a pink shirt, a black belt, green pants, and red boots (at least until Outland), but I sincerely hope that the look of low-level questing gear changes depending on what race and faction you're doing quests for. If every Alliance and Horde questgiver, every orc, every human, every blood elf, every draenei, every tauren, and every forsaken gave you nothing but these exact same models every single time, then things WILL get very dull very quick and people WILL most likely start to miss the clown suits. Not to mention it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to have a very tribal Horde race reward you for completing a quest with a very regal, finely-tailored, priestly-looking robe like our 10-20 up there.
Fletcher Nov 11th 2010 10:57PM
I kinda like it. But then I collect and/or mix-and-match interesting clothing sets; right now my level 42 disc priest has the tailoring BOP Robe of Power, the Scorching Sash from an STV quest, the Staff of the Sun from Ghostlands, the Buccaneer's Cloak of the Thingummy (a random drop) and the PVP heirloom shoulders. They go great together.
You too can have interesting, less-common, matching armour sets by picking up a crafting profession!

I enjoy the clown suits for those golden moments when your gear just happens to match and turn out to be something cool... I also like looking silly... so it's always a good thing!

Clones? Clowns? Clones? Clowns? Clones? Clowns?
Damn it, now I can't decide between them.
Elmouth Nov 12th 2010 2:12PM
Not liking this.
Looking like clowns is part of the experience, I don't give a crap that joedestroyer666 complains his lowbie outfit isn't manly enough and neither should blizzard to be honest.
People bitch about outland gear, but its color and variety makes it unique. Look at the crap they gave us to wear in early wotlk, people were QQing that all looked horribly dull, thats how I feel about these "new" lowbie outfits.
Paul Nov 13th 2010 4:24PM
You can still look like clowns, don't worry. These sets are in addition to what's currently in game, not instead of.
MagikTrik Nov 12th 2010 4:45AM
*sigh* it seems people will find something to complain about no matter what. It just went from "oh noes I look silly in the 2 or 3 weeks it takes me to level to max" to "oh noes we all look the same in the 2 or 3 weeks it takes me to level to max".
Crowqueen Nov 12th 2010 6:11AM
Yeah, but only the people who are really upset about this will bother to post. People who don't care will just look at the pictures, go "hey that's nice", and move on to the next article. So these guys are just vocal because they don't like it, it probably doesn't represent the majority of the apathetic people.
I'm in the "appearance customisation/armour dye would be nice but I'm not going to stomp my foot and yell about it" category.
netokituco Nov 12th 2010 5:36AM
OMG blizzard made something new, those jerks!
killieexile Nov 12th 2010 7:21AM
I cant believe this. I'd prefer to see MORE individuality and customisation. It's boring at endgame especially to see so many non-descript clones.
Perhaps rep factions could sell customised spikes or heraldic details that add nothing to functionality, but add a custom look to things. ie if you are a pala but have exalted with argent dawn, you could have some sort of glyph on your shoulders to show that aswell as a jazzy title over your head. Just a thought.
There could be an option like the 'show cloak' option to toggle this if id'ing in raids might become an issue.
Maybe my idea is for the RP realm players.

Anyone else noticed that the level 50-60 Cloth set has no shoes? Do all the clothies become hippies at this stage or something?
Tish Nov 12th 2010 1:31PM
Lots of comments so probably already mentioned...
But a lot of us will be decked out in BoA gear for the whole trip anyway making most of this pointless.
Agon Nov 12th 2010 6:27PM
Personally, I'd give a lot for my casters to be able to wear pants.
Claire Nov 12th 2010 7:04PM
They're wearing pants. It's just that they're wearing a dress over those pants.
Pawar Nov 15th 2010 4:52AM
What about new hair-set?
Shelly Nov 20th 2010 7:09PM
as for everyone looking the same, there are some zones I didnt quest in cause I didnt like them (*cough*felwood*cough*) and some places I didnt set foot in on pain of death (*cough*Undercityarchessuckfortauren*cough*) so there are likely going to be differences in what people where, plus, you still have those people who will be stacking the wrong stat totally for their class/build and people who will try to balance their stats by getting a bit of everything (I need more agility, I am behind 15 points in agility)
and if you didn't notice, the same class/race combos all look the same at level 1.
