Recruit-a-Friend benefits will apply to goblins and worgen

New goblin and worgen characters will indeed be eligible for Recruit-A-Friend benefits including increased experience gain and grantable levels. As we've no current plans to modify the Recruit-A-Friend program at this time or increase the level range for which the benefits apply, goblin and worgen characters (as with all other characters) will only be able to receive the in-game bonuses up to level 60.
This excites me because I'm trying to lure back a few old friends for Cataclysm, and I'm pretty sure some RAF action could smooth that process along. Lylirra points out that this is all contingent on said goblins or worgen qualifying for the process, that there's no plan to advance the benefits past level 60, and that there will be no realm-first goblin or worgen (or indeed any race) to 85 achievements any longer. So level your worgen friends with alacrity, as fast as Running Wild after a sugar rush.

I still don't understand why they got rid of the Realm-First Level 85 achievements for each race. =\
Falcon6 Nov 11th 2010 6:15PM
Well, if they are going to include Worgen and Goblin, then that would give those who pay extra for the RaF bonus an unfair advantage.
And if they weren't going to include Worgen and Goblin, then there's really no need to add the other 10 races as achievements.
Brett Porter Nov 11th 2010 6:27PM
Also because they are going to allow race-changing at launch, so those with level 80s of existing races would be able to get to 85 faster of the new races, than those that started the new races at 1. Plus it was much easier to just kill an achievement than add the coding in (I'm assuming).
Ice Nov 11th 2010 6:35PM
Did they remove them at some point? I haven't followed on that part of the news but last I heard theres 2 types of feats for the new races..
"Lost isles goblin" (1-85 start quests done)
"Realm first goblin" (x-85 without start quests)
Thorzon Nov 11th 2010 8:45PM
It wouldn't be too hard to remedy.
1: Require Goblins and Worgen to complete their respective starting zone quests, which was in the Realm-First achievement to begin with.
2: Make players who use RaF ineligible for the achievement.
Problem solved?

I am VERY glad that they aren't giving achievements for being the first to go 1 to 85.
Blizzard already has really devoted fans (heck, I'm one of them), but if they gave recognition for doing something that's supposed to take days of work, there would be some ridiculous fans that would put their own health at forfeit to get the realm first.
It's not a fun way to play the game, and it's not a healthy way to play the game. I think Blizz is being very responsible by not encouraging that sort of behavior.

Not all of us play the game for the lore. But if that's your thing, more power to you. Honestly, the only time I read a quest is if I have to quickly glance over it to find the objective. That's the great part about a game like WOW...you're able to get out of it whatever experience you like.
Faith Trust Nov 11th 2010 6:27PM
375% faster*
the heirlooms percentage applies before the triplication of exp.
NothingShocking Nov 11th 2010 6:50PM
@Yomamma - I guess people like me just can't even understand that preference. I mean, don't get me wrong, I know what you're saying... It's great that people can get whatever they want out of this game and I agree that's part of what makes WoW such an awesome experience. However, I just can't wrap my head around *how* not knowing what's going on in the game even *can* be someones preference while playing it. It just seems to devalue the experience at a base level, not just as a matter of preference.
To me, it's almost like someone watching a movie because they like watching people move around on a screen, not because it delivers an engaging narrative... lol!
Yomamma Nov 11th 2010 7:24PM
WOW! downranked because I'm not into the lore of the game. I didn't flame anyone by any means, nor was my post negative in anyway. I just stated that this particular aspect of the game isn't for me.
Nothingshocking, I have read quests before, and tried to follow along, but like I said, it's just not for me. I get your point of view though.
splodesondeath Nov 11th 2010 8:12PM
@Yomamma
Now, I may be wrong, but people do downrate because they dislike a comment. That's essentially what the downvoting/upvoting is. Like and dislike. Obviously trolls and flamers are in there too, but I think because a segment of the WoW community disagrees with your opinion (personally, I do), they downvoted it.

I understand the original post was made in humor, but in case anyone was actually thinking about doing this, you can't leave the starting area.
Just like the Death Knights who tried to get summoned out of the starting area, you can't. I actually saw people complaining about it. "Why can't I leave the Death Knight starting area? Why won't it work, my friend is trying to summon me?"
"Wait, you want to leave the starting area, and not get 49 of your Talent points?"
When tried, you got "You haven't escaped from the grasp of the Lich King yet."
Ice Nov 11th 2010 6:14PM
This is getting rather ridicilous about "race to 85". Race changers get their own "Realm first goblin/worgen" while 1-85 get their "realm first lost isles(kezan?) goblin/gilneas worgen", and now this is available?
It really feels that the point of achievements are pretty low now. Maybe even "there for the possible money making" as SOME might say (not me, but im bit skeptical)
I'm sure this will bring a lot of debate over the fact that all these benefits are paid for and are pretty expensive. And I will personally keep "close eye" on the debate as I like debates.
Brett Porter Nov 11th 2010 6:25PM
We were actually told yesterday that there would be no server first race achievements, only server first of each of the 10 classes.

Ice Nov 11th 2010 6:41PM
Oh! Well that was "hard to find" information (if you arent really active on news you might miss them. I mean that was one sentence on one news, some people (like me just now) might still think they are in place.
Thats actually way better than the two versions they had before.
I guess that also makes my comment pretty invalid.
But ah well, I guess if people want to level with 375% xp gain from start..
(cutaia) Nov 11th 2010 6:46PM
To be fair, it was also said in this very article:
"Lylirra points out [...] that there will be no realm-first goblin or worgen (or indeed any race) to 85 achievements any longer."
Mosios Nov 11th 2010 9:08PM
Cutaia, to be honest, for someone who wasn't already informed about the changes (as ice didnt) the way it is positioned in this article (adding the line straight after the RAF benefit restrictions), it does sound a little like "Lylirra points out that RAF benefits mean you are illegible for realm first".
Banic Rhys Nov 11th 2010 6:18PM
I want to know why anyone would think RaF didn't apply to Worgen or Goblins.
Scunosi Nov 11th 2010 8:01PM
This, I don't get people with betas. They're so quick to assume anything not automatically there simply doesn't exist...
