The Queue: Archimonde mountain

Herp derp Queue time.
Cenrs asked:
Is using walls in dungeons to position mobs considered exploiting the game environment?
No, using walls to position mobs is just fine. The dungeons are designed with their terrain and geometry in mind; the designers expect you to use whatever advantages they give you in order to defeat the encounter. Things like Halls of Reflection are a good example of this.
There is some gray area, however. In The Burning Crusade, there was a log that you could stand on in the Archimonde raid boss encounter that would avoid the fire he laid down. There was also the side of the mountain that you could stand on and, with careful positioning of the tank and groups, avoid many of the harder mechanics of the fight. Was this a case of direct exploitation of the game or just intelligent use of the geometry of the environment?
While it's still hotly debated amongst some, the overall opinion (at least from Blizzard folks we've heard from) is that if the tricks avoid the mechanics of the boss fight all together, then it's not exactly cool. So something like positioning mobs via the walls in HoR is OK (because you're still dealing with all the mechanics of the mobs), but sticking Archimonde at the bottom of a hill is not (because you're avoiding fire for all but the main tank).
Remember, though, that there's no definitive answer; at the end of the day, it's up to Blizzard to decide what's exploitation and what's not. Just hope that you fall on the good side of it.
Bernie asked:
When's BlizzCon 2011?
Blizzard hasn't announced it yet and won't for a long time.
Usef asked:
Is there a way to play WoW not on the official WoW servers?
Yes, but it's flat-out illegal. Don't do it.
Johnthedriver asked:
Does anybody know what or if we will be getting a pet this year for the sixth anniversary of WoW?
No idea, yet. We'll just have to wait and find out.

If you got the Loremaster achievement before Cata, are all the revamped quests already done or do you have to roll an alt to do them?
I know it'd be kinda lame to go back and do them at 80+ but I was just curious.
Ringo Flinthammer Nov 11th 2010 11:19AM
Why would it be lame? If you got Loremaster, I hope you enjoy doing quests.
The new low level quests are available to do, for characters who have previously cleared a zone, but the revamped ones that have the same IDs -- the ones that have their text updated, but little more -- are still counted as being done and are unavailable.
fedorhajdu Nov 11th 2010 11:20AM
You will not lose any of achievements you already have.
If some are removed and no longer obtainable they will be transformed into Feat of Strength, but will not be taken away from you.
icepyro Nov 11th 2010 11:37AM
As pointed out, just like spells and npcs, quests have IDs associated with them. If it's essentially the same quest as it was before Blizzard used the same ID and simply updated the text/reward/whatever. If it's a whole new quest, it has a new ID and you are able to do them, though lines with prerequisite quests may not start at the beginning or skip around due to completed other quests.
To figure out what's going on it might be better to roll an alt. To be a completionist, you have a huge start by your Loremaster.

This is my guess. As of now, the quest acheivements requiered for Loremaster, Loremaster of Eastern Kingdoms and Loremaster of Kalimdor are not subdivided like the Outland and the Northrend ones. In Cata, they are, but here's how I think it will translate: if you do have Loremaster of Kalimdor and/or Eastern Kingdom already completed, you won't lose them. You instantly get the *new* meta for the continents but none of the area specific ones, which is a bit weird. Like I said, this is just a guess.

I love to do quests - it's by far my favorite part of the game - and I'm looking forward to going back through every zone and doing all of the new quests. I'm actually a little disappointed that I won't be able to some quests over again....I was under the assumption that all quest progress would be wiped so we could do them all over again, like the holiday quests are handled.
Either way, I can't wait to turn on the low level quest tracker and rescour every zone.
HeroJéz Nov 11th 2010 1:43PM
I definitely think those of you (I didn't - fuck that!) who grinded Loremaster should get a new title.
Ancient Loremaster Playerlól would be nice...
Or perhaps -Playerlól, Loremaster of Ancient Lands- (Or Loremaster of Time)
or maybe Playerlól, Questmaster of the Ages....
Or not.

I've done Loremaster of EK and Kalimdor on two characters, and whilst it would be nice to have it recognised as being done in the old world with a distinguishable title, I'm not that bothered if it's not.
I think I would rather the new Loremaster had some sort of new title actually. I'm probably going to do all the zones even if it doesn't, but it would certainly give me even more encouragement to do so if a spanky new title were up for grabs.
Arinnaya Nov 11th 2010 2:21PM
From my experience on the Beta, you retain your Loremaster title and achievement, as well as LM of EK/Kalimdor.
Whoever mentioned IDs was right - all of the Quests that you've previously completed STAY completed as long as they have the same IDs. These quests are all assigned to a particular zone, and your counter should start on the number of quests that you've completed in that zone, e.g. I had Northern Stranglethorn (50 quests) already achieved on my character in the Beta, because I'd done them all on live. Other zones would have things like 46/54 etc, which probably reflects the number of new quests in that zones. Newly created zones, e.g. Cape of Stranglethorn, started at 0, although I'm hoping that that is mostly due to all the STV quests being applied to Northern STV and will be fixed come Live. If you have Loremaster already, then you'll be very close to earning all the Quest achievements, it'll only take a small amount of quests - almost all of which will be new.
Skarn Nov 11th 2010 3:28PM
Jiffah is correct. If you already have the Loremaster achievement, you will keep it. You will not automatically get the new individual zone achievements though. If you've already completed enough quests in a zone, you'll get the achievement, otherwise you'll need to go do a few more quests.
slythwolf Nov 11th 2010 3:54PM
@HeroJéz I think there should be a special FoS and title for people who have the current Loremaster achievement and then go on to get the Cataclysm one. I'm sure there won't, though.
dodgeballer2005 Nov 11th 2010 5:44PM
A better question would be "When the Shattering post-patch hits, will those working on the Loremaster Achievement lose their progress and have to start over?"
I wouldn't mind keeping the boost.
Joe Nov 11th 2010 11:07AM
Since all the Alliance leaders are gathered in Stormwind's throne room, does that mean if a Horde raid group goes to kill Wrynn, they'll have to fight ALL the Alliance leaders at once? (And if they do, does that count to the achievement...basically eliminating the need to go to the other Alliance cities?)
Jeffro Nov 11th 2010 11:14AM
No it does not. I already have the achievement, but went the other day with my friend, and when we took down Stormwind and all the faction leaders it did not give all of the achievements, it only took longer because by the time you would get most of them down and working on the last one, the other faction leaders would begin to respawn.
CrossEyed Nov 11th 2010 11:17AM
You can kill all of them there but they don't count towards the achievement. Did it recently and our group went there first with hope, but it didn't work out that way... my guess is while there are mobs there with the leaders look and name, they aren't recognized in the game as the npc required for the achievement...
Gordal Nov 11th 2010 3:02PM
Plus, it's also possible for a Death Knight to Death Grip him clear over the meeting's collective heads. And hilarious.
Yoink.
Knob Nov 11th 2010 11:05AM
"When's BlizzCon 2011?"
I'm disappointed you didn't answer it with "In 2011."
Jaysonn Nov 11th 2010 3:04PM
Soon.
seamus Nov 11th 2010 4:58PM
When it's ready.
jbodar Nov 12th 2010 3:08AM
My sources tell me that it WILL fall on a day that ends in "y". Now you know... and knowing is half the battle.
