Epic by Cryssy was created without the use of autotune. While I've never been bothered by the use of autotune in machinima, it's interesting to point out. The video itself declares that fact within the first few seconds, so I'm guessing it must be noteworthy.
I continue to enjoy Cryssy and I'm fairly impressed by her ongoing work. The video's composition is especially interesting. You should note the appearance of a goblin character. I'm pretty sure we're going to see a lot more of those in music videos going forward. I don't know what it is about goblins, but they just feel right in music videos. Cataclysm is going to be a good time for machinima. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at machinima@wow.com.
Yeah, I really don't think there was a need to advertise "No autotune...bitches"–-we could tell.
I like the idea of the song, because its certainly one I can empathize with, as I'm notoriously bad at dice rolls, but after the first verse or so it's just like "QQ Moar." It needed a more humorous spin to keep it from drowning in its own depression.
@James: That's what I originally thought when listening to the video, but I think the bigger problem was that she needs a better mic. While obviously her singing isn't perfect, I think the low quality mic she's using hurts her piece more.
I dunno that she can't sing necessarily. I think she's just doing her damnedest to sound like she's autotuned without actually using autotune, as if that's the model for what good singing sounds like.
Call me jaded but I can't really identify with the video because there's nothing epic about epics anymore. Everyone has full epics once they trade in thier cereal box tokens from staying awake through heroics. This would have been relevant a few years ago. The song is catchy I guess.
I know this will get downrated cause I dare to voice criticism but what the hell.
Better mic would have been a good idea, was really hard to understand, on the one hand because of the sound quality, on the other hand I felt the way she said/sang the words sounded weird... some accent? Couldn't place it, just sounded weird, e.g. "this raid" sounded almost like "this way".
No autotune is great but it sort of felt - and I know that sounds weird - like it was sung with autotune in mind, like it was supposed to work with autotuning/sound like autotuned, whatever.
@goblin - why did she use an old goblin model? Oo Going by some of the video she has beta access and the WoW Model Viewer (well, mine currently doesn't, something broke, but it did for a quite a while) can work with Cata files, she could have used a new goblin model.
It's not bad but also not great imo, it's ok, nothing I'd listen to.... uhm... watch... (really getting tired of music machinimas, with a few exceptions like the fantastic Boom-De-Yada or Cranius' stuff) a second time and I actually wanted to turn it off after a minute but figured if I wrote something negative about it I at least should watch it all, might surprise me... which it didn't, sorry.
Wow modelviewer has been broken since patch or some hotfix of it. So I would say thats the reason for goblin.
I agree with you. It wasnt bad but not really great either. There wasnt anything on the video that would've kept me "watching" it. I just let it roll while I read the comments and to my suprise (haha lol) I saw people didnt like this.
Maybe I didn't write that without a reason? Maybe I've already had several of my comments get downrated that did not insult anyone, stayed on topic, that had nothing negative about them except voicing some, even slight, criticism regarding the topic and I'm pissed because of that? I haven't got a problem if I get downrated if I write shit, if I double-post, if I insult someone, if I don't stay on topic etc. but everything else doesn't deserve to be downrated. I don't ask to be uprated for every damn post I make but some people are just too happy with that .... trigger finger. How the hell is there supposed to be some reasonable discussion if all people do is pretty much say "fuck this post" and that's it?
Equal representation of ze ladiez, hah! Just seeing orcs, forsaken, gnomes and troll woman share the spotlight equally with a BE made this a happy awesome thing for me.
Hey, what can I say. My main is a troll, my alt is a orc. I like seeing my toons in videos from time to time. :D
The song itself was clever and something I can identify with, and I thought the beat was catchy.
Things that prevent me from favoriting:
As another person said, I felt that this was sung with autotune in mind. The first line of the chorus really sounds like it needs autotune. It's the flat, long notes that work well when put through a machine, but not when left on their own. The singing was good, but the choice of how to sing it wasn't good for no autotune.
The scenes got a little monotonous. Needed some spice and about halfway through I wanted to stop watching because I felt like I had seen everything. Shame, because the graphics were pretty awesome, but when you have the chorus repeat in the same way over and over again... well they should have varied the scenes.

Maybe she should use autotune.

Hmm.
I thought "Lame! Just another repost (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBONEHe8xKU).", after watching I thought "I can I have the repost please?"

As a culture that sets absolute pitch perfection as a STANDARD (computer-assisted or otherwise), I would not boast of your lack thereof.

Hint: It's not.

It's even more evident when my freshly dinged 80 almost out gears my main and my alt hasn't even been inside ICC. :O
Emophia Nov 12th 2010 12:55PM
Your main must have shit gear then.
Aaron Nov 12th 2010 2:03PM
@Emophia, yes, yes it does.

Well, the song is about "not winning upgrades" so I don't see how the color of text on said upgrades stops that from being relevant.
blado111 Nov 12th 2010 12:11PM
Oh look! A singing blood elf!
In all seriousness, not the worst things that's been posted here, but its nothing special
renan.nasser Nov 12th 2010 12:13PM
Yeah, its official. I dont like her machinama, because I dont like that kind of song.
Aaron Nov 12th 2010 12:14PM
Needs some autotune, bitches. -_-
Njay Nov 12th 2010 12:15PM
