WRUP: The "you should hire Fox before he breaks out into song" edition
Every week, just at the start of the weekend, we catch up with the WoW Insider staff and ask them, "What are you playing this week?" -- otherwise known as: WRUP. Join us to see what we're up to in and out of game -- and catch us in the comments to let us know what you're playing, too!
Here's how the world is supposed to work, at least according to WRUP: You put in a 40-hour week at some job from Monday to Friday, and then you spend the weekend playing video games. But that neat and tidy little way of life only makes sense so long as you actually have a job. (I no longer do.)
So, while my WoW Insider comrades are enjoying a respite from a hard week of work, yours truly is about to enjoy two days that will be pretty much identical to the five that preceded it. Sure, a little bit will be different: There's no Judge Judy on weekends, for example. For the most part, though, Saturday and Sunday are going to be another 48-hour block of video gaming, interrupted by brief, cursory checks of Craigslist, Monster, and all sorts of other job boards.
The job leads have been few and far between, but the one position that seems most promising so far has been that of baby merchant. Sure, the legality of it all is questionable, but let me tell you: $11,000 buys you a lot of house here in Boston. Plus, I've got a jacket that looks just like that one. If nothing else, Fox Van Allen is all about style.
Adam Holisky (@adamholisky): I reached 80 on the toon that I leveled in <ICFTB> last week, and thanks to my leveling partner and dungeon running buddy @phenger, we're a tank/healer combo sporting a 4,500+ GS. While we're not up on running through the dungeons and current raids forever, we are getting the Red Proto-Drake. So this weekend, I'm hoping to finish up the last remaining achievements for that. Oculus, here I come!
Allison Robert (@AllisonRobert): I'm going to be on the beta for a bit to try to answer questions over the fate of the Razzashi Hatchling more conclusively (I don't think it'll be a drop; I think it'll be a quested pet). Apart from that, hopefully some more 5-mans and maybe an Ulduar fun run with some buddies.
Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey): I am killing heroic mode Lich King-25. Oh yes. Yes, he will die. :D
Basil Berntsen (@outdps): Playing my crafting alts. I'll have them at level 79.9 with full rested bonus and 25 quests completed and ready to turn in the day Cataclysm launches.
Chase Christian (@madsushi): My guild is going to take a few shots at Herald of the Titans this weekend, and I'll likely delve a bit deeper into Fallout: New Vegas.
Elizabeth Wachowski (@leeatwaterlives): New Vegas and Fable, when I have time at home, which I probably won't. So I might finish my second playthrough of Mass Effect 2 on the laptop.
Fox Van Allen (@foxvanallen): If I must get something done this weekend ... I'm trying to learn a new skill: video editing. I'm going to turn my finished basement into a studio and do some really awesome stuff down there. Or maybe I'll just lay around on my couch, drinking cough syrup and being sick. The possibilities are endless!
Joe Perez (@Lodurzj): Continuing to farm mounts (bastard tiger needs to drop >.<), doing my dailies on the hunter, banking some points for Cataclysm, and leveling my death knight on Ner'zhul. Also helping the girlfriend hunt down furniture, install internet, and all that good stuff. Also, we're deciding on the new name for our raider rank come Cataclysm. I'm voting we rename it to something having to do with pirates.
Kelly Aarons (@Cadistra): Comics, Castlevania: Lord of Shadow, and I've decided to get the Ambassador title on Cadi, so I'm doing lowbie belf and Forsaken quests. Still recovering from this blasted cough, too.
Lisa Poisso (@emused): Beginning to contemplate the Great UI Revision Project. Yikes.
Matt Low (@matticus): Doing some heavy PvPing this weekend since my guild's going to be housing a raiding and rated BG division. That also means I'll need to shop around for players. I am a little disappointed at the decision to remove the 25-man-rated BGs out of the rotation.
Mathew McCurley (@gomatgo): It's my birthday tomorrow (Saturday), so I'm pre-spending birthday cash on computer crap. Also, WoW. And writing. A lot of writing.
Hold up -- stop this WRUP! It's Mat McCurley's birthday? Well Mat, have we got a present for you:
Matthew Rossi (@matthewwrossi): I'm playing around on the beta and trying to nag people to come back to WoW.
Michael Gray (@writegray): After some family-based panicking, I will be enjoying FaerieCon.
Robin Torres (@cosmiclaurel): Happy Birthday, Mat! The Spawn has a bad cold, so I have no idea what I'm playing this weekend. I'm hoping for lots of naps though, because I just love naps.
Tyler Caraway (@murmursofadrid): (Tyler did not respond to this particular WRUP. One can only assume it is because he was far too busy building his altar to Fox Van Allen to check his email.)

Fox - you must learn video editing with Final Cut Pro. Other editing programs are far too convoluted and confusing compared to Apple's masterpiece. It's far and away the best program out there.

I actually like Video Explosion, super easy and it gives you several advanced features only found on the significantly more expensive alternatives. I would recommend a different program for capturing raw footage though, as it has a very bad audio capture quality and usually only captures in mono. When I grabbed a copy it was only about $60.

Having used both, Adobe Premiere Pro is pretty much identical to Final Cut Pro in functionality. You just have the choice of using Premiere on a not-overpriced machine. Of course, if you really like dropping a bunch of money, Avid is the Hollywood standard.

I recommend you give Sony Vegas a try. It offers many of the advanced features you will find in Final Cut/Premier yet puts the focus on the more simple editing tools that you will use more often. I own both Premier and Vegas 7 and I use Vegas 7 for 99% of all my editing. It is also much cheaper than the others. I can make a professional looking HD video in minutes. Just piece your clips together in the workspace, drag and drop your transitions, add effects and hit render. I swear they didn't pay me to say that.

LOLZ to the Caraway/Van Allen bromance...or is it more of a one way street?
Christopher Nov 13th 2010 2:12PM
Well then, it looks like me and Tyler are doing the same thing this weekend.

happy birthday and aka'magosh mat!
(apologies if I spelled aka'magosh wrong, never really seen it written :P)
Noselacri Nov 13th 2010 2:21PM
Fox, let's not lie. You aren't checking CL for a job....well...you are...just not the type of job a respectable member of society should be looking for.
Jack Miles Nov 13th 2010 3:09PM
Well, he is an aspiring Baby Merchant...

"Beginning to contemplate the Great UI Revision Project. Yikes."
I've been procrastinating this since the patch dropped. I have plenty of time to day to do it, so I'm hiding by playing Eve Online. :(

Happy Birthday Mr. McCurley!

Dezaris Nov 13th 2010 3:09PM
Ah, ghetto confetti. Perfect for any occasion!
Vogie Nov 13th 2010 2:41PM
I've just been not into WoW right now. I've got 4 geared 80s, a 73 mage, and 4 alts in the mid 40s & 50s. I'm just tired of doing this content.
So I'm playing League of Legends. Mix Mix, will MIX!
Dezaris Nov 13th 2010 3:08PM
Happy Birthday!!
Quill2006 Nov 13th 2010 3:16PM
Good luck with the job search, Fox. I'm in the same boat, and it's frustrating. At least you have WoW Insider to keep you somewhat occupied.
Rob Nov 13th 2010 3:48PM
i'm doing old raids and playing old games, waiting for cata, like everyone else.
Stannislaus Nov 13th 2010 5:36PM
Joe Perez if you read this: Bilgescum should be your new low rank. Or Galley Slave.
Doldrums Nov 13th 2010 6:51PM
Fox, I will hire you to make sweet, sweet love to me on a semi-hourly basis.
Just kidding.
Really though, you should just go to Vegas, be a male prostitute. You'd make a crap-ton of money on the world's oldest profession, and probably have a great time! I mean, it's Vegas.
Kole Nov 13th 2010 7:07PM
Right there with ya Fox...well I will be anyways. Being laid off my temporary job (5 weeks, blah) on the 30th. But it will be right in time for Cataclysm, and continuing the RAF I am doing with a friend. Christmas for me this year will be using a credit card to buy Cataclysm and downloading it onto a laptop that will be having a hard time rendering any of the graphics...
Yay for us.
