Breakfast Topic: What cemented your interest in WoW?

A few months ago, my girlfriend finally got me to take the leap and start a WoW account. I realize now that in most cases, this is the other way around. Admittedly, I did not know too much about the backstory or how to effectively play my class. Like most players (I hope), I made some serious noob mistakes, such as leaving my pet on aggressive while in The Stockades and Ragefire Chasm. Luckily, I quickly learned what I was doing was wrong.
Being a hunter means that I often played solo a lot, and I figured as long as I am leveling and not dying that often, that qualifies me as being a "good" player. However, it only took one wipe before the final boss deep within the Sunken Temple to alter my viewpoint. The group quickly began to disband, leaving me wandering the Swamp of Sorrows desperately looking for my corpse. The last member of the group remaining started blaming the wipe on me and attempting to really go to town on how terrible I was. I tried to be civil about it and why she felt that way -- or if she had any advice that would help me -- but that did not work at all. I finally lost it and went on my own rant in retaliation.
From that point on, I wanted to be the best, to know all about not only my class but my race as well. That one wipe seemingly snowballed into my seeking out fan sites and reading novels not only on lore but books taking an academic approach to the game, as well. Now I cannot seem to shake this WoW obsession.
What was that crowning moment that pushed your interest in WoW over the edge ? Was it piece of incredible lore, some jerk from a RDF group, or something different entirely?

My 1st heroic instance cleared with guildies. Blood Furnace, took us about 90 minutes, and i don't think i got any loot, but once we did it, there was such a rush, i was hooked.

I was hooked the first time I rode a griffin from Westfall to SW.

I started as a NE, got him to 24 or so, then shifted to a human, got to around 20 or so, shifted to a gnome, got to around 10 or so. Thought maybe the faction was what was holding me back, so shifted to an orc, got to around 40 or so, shifted to an undead, got to around 13 or so, shifted to a troll, got to around 13 or so, and it was starting to seem like I'd never like any race.
Then I rolled a Tauren. And I was hooked.

@Knob. Forsaken must have been too awesome for you to handle.

The lore locked me into playing for all eternity.
I play to see what happens next, but I wish Blizz would make a solo RPG or something (a new Warcraft game)to play through for the story up to Cataclysm.
The other thing that locked me in is the Forsaken race.

I started a tauren back in TBC. I had picked up a quest to go kill some quill boar chieftain, and i remember how long it took me to run over there. Thinking it took ages, i opened up the map to see an entire continent, freaking enormous to the distance i just covered. I was hooked from then on, bent on seeing the entire World of Warcraft.

Learning that you could fly in the game on mounts. I never knew that until my friend helped me with Ring of Blood in Nagrand. :)

Yeah was definitely the story for me. I've played Warcraft since Orcs vs. Humans, so it's been a long love affair with the Warcraft universe. But Warcraft 3 was some of the best story-telling possible through that particular type of game at the time. My friends and I used to play multi-player maps quite a bit and we used to say how awesome it would be if you could play the game as one player controlling each particular unit. Heard about World of Warcraft and I was on it. I was lucky enough to play beta before release and I was blown away over how expansive and detail the world was.
I fell in love with the game the first dungeon I ran with a party of friends. It took us so long to get from Grom'gol to Westfall and work our way through the mines leading to Deadmines (slow mounts were unavailable until 40, and all the Defias mobs in the mines were elite back then). Just getting to the instance felt like such an accomplishment, and we were euphoric when we finally downed Van Cleef. Our victory was short-lived, as we dropped down to check out the cave leading out and engaged Cookie with all of us being near 20% health and the healer was out of mana.
