Breakfast Topic: The reason for the seasonal achievements
That said, I'm still deciding whether or not I'll actually take the time to do them. After all, none of the Pilgrim's Bounty achievements are needed for What a Long, Strange Trip. I mean, an extra turkey pet is sort of cool, but otherwise, there's not really much of a profit to them. Also, some of the achievements seem downright annoying. Turkey Lurkey? Do I really need to run around looking for all these dumb rogues? Why so arbitrary? And what about the Turkinator? Do I really need to run around a newbie zone like a chicken with my head cut off trying to target critters more quickly than the other 100 people doing it? What does that accomplish?
Then I think about some of the other holidays. It's not like I haven't had to run around Dalaran looking for random class and race combinations before, and it's not like I haven't run around the newbie zones doing silly, inconsequential stuff before either. So why is Pilgrim's Bounty bringing out the achievement cynic in me? I like to think I've been doing achievements because they're interesting and fun, but what if they've been about the carrot and stick all along? Now that there's no reward I'm really interested in, am I finally seeing achievements for what they are, or am I just being a grinch a month early?
What do you think? Do you do achievements for fun, or are you pretty sure you'd leave them alone if they weren't rewarding you with shiny stuff?

The whole point of this holiday is to power level cooking from 1 to 300+ in about 15min.

If you wanna see this holiday as someting profitable I guess you can say that is a fast way to level up your cooking without too much hassle.

I do it for both. I like getting achievements and the rewards are an added bonus!

I love holiday chieves. They are an alt's best friend. Many of them require questing, world crawling, or bgs which all give exp. Even trying to do some of the none rewarding chieves could mark time that you queue up for for a random dungeon during that time. If you're an alt-aholic, I strongly recommend doing as many holiday chieves as you can.

I don't mind events, but wish they weren't centered around real holidays--trying to get achievements done around Thanksgiving and Christmas really sucks when you have limited opportunities to spend with family.

Holidays equals "free" money and some silly goodies. I ran all my toons around to the inns near FPs and made enough to finally get my druid her Epic Flight form. Hop a taxi, go pop a load of laundry in, come back.
I have a toon to level cooking on this Thanksgiving, but that's about it. Otherwise, I'll probably not do much. I'm far more worried about doing the pre-Cata events.
My main has his drake, and I'm working on two more. SO I guess you could say I enjoy the holidays.
...wut?

I will be pulling whats left of my hair out for this holiday, I have a rogue main, and nothing more anoying then getting turned into a turkey.......LOL

There is an excellent reason to do the Pilgrim's Bounty quests... easy powerleveling of cooking for those toons you negected it on.

On my main I did holiday events because I wanted the achievements. On my alts I used to do them to get a certain title (i.e. "Flame Warden" for my fire mage). However Brewfest was so easy to do that I ended up finishing it on all of my alts. Now I can't stop myself. The inner ocd completist in me has been let loose and nothing can stop it (ok, except maybe turkey).

The best reason for this holiday imo: >10% reputation buff<
Many people have mentioned the opportunity to quickly level your cooking abilities during this holiday. But I have yet to see anyone mention the 1 hour 10% reputation buff you get from "The Spirit of Sharing". Essentially you stuff yourself with 5 helpings of each of the 5 Thanksgiving foods and you get a buff for 10% reputation increase for an hour. And this isn't a daily quest, you can go back to rebuff every hour. With so many people currently spending their pre-cata time trying to finish up achievements, particularly for reputations that will be disappearing, or working on their Insane title (which is no longer disappearing, but still a long rep grind), I highly recommend taking advantage of the week of Pilgrim's Bounty for the added rep boost.

The Thanksgiving event exists so that you can make a character named Scott, get the Pilgrim title and make a vanity guild called "vs. The World"

I think the Thanksgiving holiday is freakin' awesome because of the chance to catch my cooking up on all my alts. I've been 15 points off max on one character for a year specifically because I was waiting for this holiday to roll back around (those last points are a pain in the tuchas). Filling both a fun, seasonal goal (Yay! Holiday!) and a utilitarian goal (Yay! Easy-Grind-Cooking!) make this a win holiday all around.
I am interested in the title and pet, and got those on my main character, but I have no problem skipping an achievement I think is just annoying and timewasting. The one that immediately comes to mind is the Lunar Festival; tracking all those locations down does not count as 'fun' for me, though I know it does for other people.

I love the achievements, they give me a chance to aim for a specific goal while completing certain Bgs/Heroics/etc, but i don't really actively pursue them unless the opportunity arises. I especially love the BG achievements, of course I just love BGing in general. My favorite achievement accomplishment came just a few days after the release of 4.0.1. I randomed an AB and got Overly Defensive and Arathi Basin All-Star in one BG(neither of which I ever thought I'd get since people are usually so quick on the flags) because pretty much everyone was so freaked out about how different their toons played they completely forgot about Flag turn overs, so in between healing my fighting team, I just kept turning over the nearest flags and boom. I think the best part for me is that I wasn't even trying for it, I was just trying to help us win. Which we did, Go TEAM!
