Breakfast Topic: Rest in peace, Mankrik's wife

"... she held off three of the bristlebacks by herself ..."
Yeah yeah, Mankrik. Gimme my quest!
"Please ... find some sign of my wife."
Woah ...
Lost in Battle was the first quest I came across that caused a personal, deeply emotional reaction in me. I love the lore and was devouring the story as I went along. Quests had made me cry, laugh, and say out loud, "How in the...? No!" That was as an observer who was loving the story, though. Mankrik's quest made me hold my husband a little tighter that night and tell him I love him a little more. Sure, I admit I've giggled at a cleverly timed "Mankrik's wife" punch line or two! I'm not going to claim to be above that. But I've looked at Mankrik standing there, a proud orc pushed to the point of begging strangers to find his wife, and then looked across the room at my own husband. It's not something I can laugh at then.
The first thing I did with my Horde death knight after turning the letter in to Thrall was run down to the Crossroads for that quest. My Alliance RP character has found the body and mourned the death of this unknown orc who was so badly beaten, and she has lamented not knowing who she could possibly go to about this. I've worried about losing Haggle and Mankrik's wife in Cataclysm. At least now I know Mankrik's wife -- excuse me, Olgra -- will finally be laid to rest. I've read what the moment says and cried. If you Hordies see an awfully friendly dwarf coming through with a bear, /cheering animals, I'm just on my way to pay my respects again.
Which characters/quests have hit you really hard? Is anybody else worried about Haggle?

Certainly a good storyline, enjoyed completing it also. I think Cranius made a decent music machinima of it no?

Absolutely Darrowshire. I've had a number of guild members doing it lately as they push toward Loremaster. They really don't need my "help" to handle the waves but they always ask. I make it a point to have Cranius' song in the background as we go about our business. In fact, just talking about it now..."Have you seen my dolly? I left her by the windowsill. Have you seen my daddy? I think he went off to war?"
I think what moves me is the redemption. I don't feel this way about Arthas, not in the least, but Pamela's daddy? Yeah. I hope this story isn't removed in Cataclysm.

It's probably because I have two little girls myself but at the end of that chain, when the Redpaths are reunited... /teary every time. Easily one of my absolute favorite chains in the whole game. Respect to Bridenbrad but this... man... this one resonates.
The other one that really got me (and many miss as it's so very out of the way to start) is Sully Balloo's story. It'd be epic if they phase in the monument in Cataclysm.
Also, I hope the Stalvan chain stays in so that all the horde that never rolled alliance can do it on their worgens.

Just reading that, I got chills. The song definitely cemented the emotional feeling of the quest for me.

Yeah I think Darrowshire was good, but my favorite one was the questline in EPL to help Tirion Fordring, and his son Taelan.

Actually I also have to say one quest that really had me in tears, besides Tirion's, was the one in Icecrown, where you help the dying soldier from the plague. I won't spoil it, but when the end of that happened and all....yeah. The whole store line was very moving.

Hodir's Horn quest; the haunting music, falling snow and the subtle whisping drift across the ice covered slopes.. had me transfixed as the massive ancestral giant ghosts floated up and away to rest in the clear starry sky above. I often do that daily to recapture that sense of peace.

I'm really gunna miss Cairne in Cataclysm :(
Mahgo Nov 16th 2010 8:26AM
I promised myself I wouldn't get emotional *sniff*
Aindreas Nov 16th 2010 11:12AM
I will admit, I spent the entirety of yesterday afternoon helping Cairne fend off elementals. Having him call out your name to encourage you to keep fighting is inspirational. And tanking half a dozen elite elementals for the Old Bull was definitely one of the highlights of playing this game so far.

The Mor'ladim quest series, o my gosh, I huged my hubby so tightly after it, one of the saddest quests out there...
ManiacFive Nov 16th 2010 9:11PM
I hear that, i keep Archerus and the book on each of my toons that complete that quest.

The amberseed questline in Grizzly Hills hit me really hard, though not in the tender, touching way that Mankrik's wife did. More of a nauseous, stomach-turning way.
rcbfp Nov 16th 2010 11:09AM
Amberseed sure was one of those, I remember tanking it and when I was about to burn the sappling I stopped and though "WTH am I doing burning this amazingly awesome tree?" and later I couldn't help but run to Ursoc's Den to try and cleanse it.
But the really emotional one has got to be Kyle's Gonne Missing, i'm mean, call me cheesy, but the whole thing is awesome
Josin Nov 16th 2010 11:18AM
I think we might be talking about different questlines. I meant the one that starts with "Mmm... Amberseeds!"

On the topic of Mankriks wife: make sure you read the epic You Awaken in Razor Hill by Dusk!

After reading that I brought my Alliance characters over to her corpse to pay respect.
Blizz also liked it and honored the story by placing its protagonists in Cataclysm ^_^

Epic story is epic.
I've sent it to everyone I know, it is a great read and draws you in as every good story must. I didn't know Blizz had honored it with a place in Cata, but I respect them for doing so. It deserves a mention.

Thanks for linking this, I've just started reading though it:)
