World of Warcraft turns 6, but no free pet to be awarded

World of Warcraft turns six on November 23rd, 2010! It's been a truly incredible six years, and we'd like to thank you all for joining us on this momentous occasion. To celebrate, players that log into the game between the dates of November 30th and December 14th will receive a feat of strength added to their Achievements. We look forward to another great year ahead and many more to come!
But what about that free anniversary pet?

Does this mean no pet? :(
Does this mean no pet? :(
The Baby Blizzard Bear was a gift that we mailed to players for logging in for our five-year anniversary. We plan to reserve this sort of celebratory bonus for the most notable milestones or events.
But I digress. Yes, it's sad that we're not getting a pet this year. And yes, it is weird that the anniversary period doesn't include the actual anniversary of the game. Still, any disappointment stems from Blizzard just plain being too generous in the past with this kind of stuff, so you can't hit the company too hard for coming up short this year.
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm will destroy Azeroth as we know it; nothing will be the same! Sry for the highjack but the "source" link on the second blue post goes to some sort of coupon club site or something at this time.

There is a murloc pet that was found in the files that is of yet unaccounted for as to how it is obtained. I'm hoping they are pulling the wool over our eyes, but it may be that we just bet a chance to buy the moonkin and ragnarous pets.

I want my pony!

But....but....Ghostcrawler promised us a moose! WHERE'S MY BULLWINKLE!?

I know :( I had my fingers crossed for a little mini-giraffe ala the DirecTv "Opulence" commercial.

And yet they have several pet models ready to go, it's just they would rather sell them to us.

This sucks. No updated Beer Stine for Brewfest, bugged out Hallows Eve event, and now no Anniversary pet, Blizz may be trying to get Cata done ASAP but that's no excuse to neglect the game we're paying $15 a month for.

I wish I was dead

It'd be sweet if they weren't giving us a pet because they were going to surprise us with "Spikemoose"...
Necromann Nov 17th 2010 7:07PM
I bet their anniversary present is the shattering.

I actually agree with Joker on this one...
This seems more of a "Fuck em, we're 'busy'" response than anything else...
Its almost like they'd rather spend their time making pets that go to their store than pets they give away to loyal customers... *ponders*

Yeah this is really surprising to me-- especially considering all the mini pets in the game files sitting around unused. Oh well, I already have 100 mini pets, I won't care until they make a really cool one or make a 125 achievement.

It does feel like that in their quest to get Cataclysm out during the holiday season, Blizzard has put everything else on the back burner.
Though the Baby Blizz Bear and the Onyxia Whelpling were nice surprises and we shouldn't expect anything, it is those nice surprises that makes Blizzard such a great company. They're going above and beyond what the customers expect because they appreciate their customers, and that is a sure way to earn fan loyalty.
I'll chalk this one off as "being busy with expansion," but next year, I better have my spike moose. :D

When isn't Blizzard busy? A year from now they'll be busy prepping the last set of raids to bring Cataclysm to an end, and so that'll be yet another perfect excuse.

Wow. Times do change, if you did a post like Stella Khatibis' back in the day of announcing celestial steed & pets, you would have been mercilessly downvoted. This is change I'm glad to see though.

@Joker
I'm with you, Joker. It feels like so much has been disregarded these past few months that I normally look forward to. I'm not saying it's true, but I hope activision isn't forcing blizzards hand in getting stuff out the door. I don't remember the last time I could recognize as many problems as WoW is currently having and the number of missing traditions. Probably just being paranoid, but I do worry...

Yeah, we all know why there won't be any rewarding gift to celebrate a 6th year of World of Warcraft. Pure developer laziness. I realize that the developers are involved with getting Cataclysm off the ground, but that is still no excuse the be lazy and shun an important celebration has a 6th year of still going. In the MMO market, continuing for another year is a reason to celebrate.

it *is* a recession...

what a big ole pile of qq...
i dont remember getting sent a present for anniversaries of games like wc2/3, starcraft, or diablo, either... in fact, i dont recall EVER getting a present for the anniversary of ANY game i've played. Frankly, people should be grateful that they got the ones they did, and shouldnt expect any new presents.
After all, Blizzard is probably really upset that YOU didn't buy THEM an anniversary present the last couple of times... and after all the effort they went to for yours...
