World of Warcraft turns 6, but no free pet to be awarded

World of Warcraft's 6th Anniversary!World of Warcraft turns six on November 23rd, 2010! It's been a truly incredible six years, and we'd like to thank you all for joining us on this momentous occasion. To celebrate, players that log into the game between the dates of November 30th and December 14th will receive a feat of strength added to their Achievements. We look forward to another great year ahead and many more to come!
But what about that free anniversary pet?

Does this mean no pet? :(
Does this mean no pet? :(
The Baby Blizzard Bear was a gift that we mailed to players for logging in for our five-year anniversary. We plan to reserve this sort of celebratory bonus for the most notable milestones or events.
But I digress. Yes, it's sad that we're not getting a pet this year. And yes, it is weird that the anniversary period doesn't include the actual anniversary of the game. Still, any disappointment stems from Blizzard just plain being too generous in the past with this kind of stuff, so you can't hit the company too hard for coming up short this year.

But I'm still slightly disappointed - I was looking forward to seeing which prediction for a pet was right! There were so many good choices!
Mosios Nov 17th 2010 9:41PM
Did anyone predict... none?
llaw_grimm Nov 17th 2010 3:05PM
As a minipet fanatic, Im disappointed, but, I guess I'll live....
barely... *sniff*

"you can't hit the company too hard for coming up short this year."
Yes, yes we can. The baby bear is STILL my favorite pet after all these years, and sadly, nothing coming out. Now you want to take away my QQ, too.
"Bah!" I say, "Bah!"
danglewood Nov 17th 2010 3:13PM
Might I suggest the Elwynn Lamb.
roseclown Nov 17th 2010 3:40PM
This was going to be my first anniversary on wow....
/sniff
I wanted a pet to remember it. :(
Kyle Nov 17th 2010 3:59PM
You guys should write a 10.000 character ragequit post on the forums because they didn't give you a pet. and then delete all your characters, cancel your account, and burn your game disks along with a stuffed Ghostcrawler straw-man. Include pictures as well.
It would at least make me chuckle. :P

@Kyle
Okay. You first :)
Dendaris Nov 17th 2010 4:49PM
@Noyou
I think your name was a suitable response by itself. :)
Dboy Nov 17th 2010 5:53PM
I'm giving Kyle a thumbs-up.
Not getting something for free is not a big deal.
I'm a teacher, and if my heart broke every time one of my students complained about writing an essay, I'd be a sodding mess. I lighten the mood and make a joke at their expense, satirising their immaturity within the bonds of a constructive and healthy relationship.
Noyou Nov 17th 2010 6:11PM
@dboy
You sound like some kind of teacher. Seriously you make them the bud of your joke? And they are okay with that? you must have jedi powers. I'll admit teachers get very little credit for what they have to put up with and less compensation. Singling out a student and poking fun at them will eventually catch up with you if that is truly the way you handle it and i'm not somehow misinterpreting what you wrote. Just saying.
Dendaris Nov 17th 2010 6:18PM

I don't think anyone would take offense if Kyle could express his thoughts in a somewhat more polite manner that didn't involve outrageous hyperbole and an implication that anyone who would like a pet should delete their account.
Civility is all but lost on the internet.
Also, there's a difference between not wanting to do something you're expected to do and expecting something for free, so I'm not sure how your example applies. (And for the record, I'm not one of the ones who downvoted you. Not entirely sure what that's about.)
Dboy Nov 17th 2010 6:20PM
Chill out, dude. I make fun myself regularly too. The student in question laughs, I give them a wink and then we all get on with being excellent.
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I, and my students, have an Australian sense of humour and I'm posting on an American website. Check this out: http://www.cultureandrecreation.gov.au/articles/humour/
We don't take ourselves as seriously as you guys do.
Kyle Nov 17th 2010 6:31PM
You guys make me chuckle by downrating my joke. Oh WoW Insider community, you are both shallow AND pedantic...
And you don't understand sarcasm. I'm glad someone apparently got that I was just playfully jabbing fun at you. Don't pay $10 for stupid vanity pets if you want Blizzard to keep giving them out free. It's one or the other guys. And you most likely get a brand new old world for the sixth anniversary. I think that's much better than a useless, use-it-once-and-forget-it vanity pet.

As a fellow teacher, I get what you're saying. Appropriate humor like what you described can win even the grumpiest kid over in a hurry. A won-over kid is a kid who learns more from your class and cares about doing his or her best. It's extremely important that kids not only know their teacher is an expert on the subject, but also a caring human being that can relate to them.
Thanks for aussie culture link, too! I actually really enjoyed browsing that whole page.
On topic: throwing a fit for a free digi-pet is tres lame. We can always call the WAH-mbulence for the near death folks.

"...write a 10.000 character ragequit..."
Only 10.000? Thank goodness! For a second there, I thought you meant 10,000 characters ;)
As a fellow practitioner of sarcasm (and punctuation nazi :D), just thought I'd throw that out there.

I meant the shallow and pedantic Family Guy reference as a half-joke, but man, you sure went out of your way to prove me correct. Pointing out that I used a period instead of a comma... well...
"pedantic–adjective.
overly concerned with minute details or formalisms."
I sincerely thank you. Every time I point out these things, you guys go out of your way to make me laugh at how unintentionally correct I am, even though I'm usually just using sardonic humor for mutual kicks.

@masteroaktree
some places use a decimal instead of a comma
thepiratester Nov 17th 2010 3:06PM
Crap..I was looking forward to another pet for my achv. :(
Corath Nov 17th 2010 3:07PM
Still no moose... one day, perhaps.
