Though we're not quite sure why, gold rewards for daily quests have been cut by 50 percent or more across the board. The 7g40s total we're getting now for level 80 dailies is roughly what we would be getting for completing the quests were we not level-capped, so it's possible that all of the
patch 4.0.3 goings-on accidentally flipped some invisible switch saying "all them guys is under the level cap now." But we have no idea!
In the meantime, your pre-
Cataclysm daily quest farming income has been cleft in twain. You'll probably be forced into a life of crime just to make ends meet, but it's not your fault. The recession hit us all pretty hard.
UPDATE: Now we're sure why!
Blizzard says it's a bug. Thanks, commenters!

That it going to hurt the economy. Dailies are the banking system of WoW, its how most of the gold gets created. I think someone messed up big time.
Falcon6 Nov 18th 2010 5:19PM
I wouldn't worry too much about the economy at this stage.
Think of it more like we all turned our XP off to be twinks. We won't gain any experience, but we won't gain that experience back as gold. Essentially, we all turned our XP off during the patch because we are in the patch that holds the world change.
We're all 80s living in an 85 world now. The economy won't suddenly fall apart. It'll do that on the week of the 7th. ;)

Forced into a life of crime is right.

Learn to play the AH? Even a low level Tailor can make good money there. Or just flip stuff. I mean, who wants to spend an hour making 100g by farming, when most auctioneers can make an easy 1k?
lexxroth Nov 19th 2010 12:43AM
As for the above post being voted down, I guess you guys are right. I don't know what I'd do without farmers to supply my mats. It's all how you enjoy playing the game.
Same as saying "The world need more patty flippers" I guess =/

@Grovin
You win 1 "special" cookie, if you catch my drift.

No worries. I'll just jack up glyphs in response.

They also made it so people no longer have the engineering or mining skill to harvest from lv 82 and 83 mobs in Ulduar. Flame Leviathan's body required engineering 270 last night!
Aris Nov 18th 2010 5:40PM
I'm guessing you mean 470?
Hellbena Nov 18th 2010 5:43PM
I noticed that too with the skinning from the Sartharion weekly, thankfully I had [item]Finkle's Skinner[/item] and [item]Zulian Slicer[/item] in the bank.
LT Nov 18th 2010 7:24PM
oops, yes thanks for the correction. I meant 470!

I think Joe's explanation earlier seemed pretty plausible.

took me a while to understand, so i'll try to explain it my way:
The actual rate XP -> gold is, lets say, 10XP -> 1gold
Since at cataclysm, we will need a lot more XP for one level, thoses new quests will offer a lot more XP
If they keep the ratio as it is, the level 85 daily awarding 5x the XP will also award 5x the gold
So they change the ratio to, again an exemple, 50XP -> 1gold so that the 85 dailies will award the same amount of gold from XP as level 80 ones
wizzums Nov 18th 2010 5:29PM
Or, all conversions aside, think of it as:
When leveling, you get XP and 7g per daily quest turn in. At level cap, you get no XP, but twice the amount of gold per daily quest turn in. Come Cataclysm, you will no longer be at level cap. You now receive XP and 7g per daily quest turn in.
Seems they implemented this a little early since we're all still at level cap, but I'd assume this is what's taking place (unless I missed something).

@Picto
Huh?
Lemons Nov 18th 2010 6:35PM
Yea, no, that's not what's happening at all. this explanation by Drakkenfyre makes a lot more sense:
"The quests award gold + exp. The amount of exp you would have gotten is converted into gold. When you are no longer at the level cap, you get the amount of gold you normally would."
See? The quest rewards are now giving the amount of gold you'd get if you were still leveling. That's why the JC daily above is now giving 7g 40s, because that's the exact amount you'd get if you were under level cap, because now with cata on the horizon we are under level cap because the new cap is 85.
so they didn't actually adjust any kind of exp to gold conversion ratio, according to Wowhead the JC dailies don't even award exp. they just flipped a switch that says "all characters are now lowbies" (even if we technically aren't until December 7th) and the rewards changed accordingly.
Xenikos Nov 18th 2010 5:10PM
They almost certainly set it so level 80s no longer receive XP for those quests, meaning all the XP to gold is now gone.
There was a lot of talk about people loading up on completed dailies and turning them in on Dec7 to get a leveling boost, so this is certainly a means to check against that.
MysticalOS Nov 18th 2010 5:40PM
this actually makes the most sense right there
