"When you start leveling from 80 to 85, things will die incredibly quickly -- often in just one or two shots" This makes me sad, I thought Cata was going to re-introduce a bit of a challenge to the game. Not continue on with the childish ease. "sigh" Making everything out of instances mind numbingly easy is bad game design imo.

This is design intent. You need to be able to kill level 81's in quest gear as a fresh 80. Old 80's (most of us) with ICC gear will have it much easier. But you have to tune for folks leveling from 1-85 without the benefit of our gear. As Frostheim mentions, it does ramp up quickly, as by that time everyone will be on a more equal gear footing with the cata quest gear.

When you get to higher level mobs they do get tough. But those first couple levels where mobs are often level 78-79 and your combat rating percentages are still insanely high, things die really, really fast. Also be prepared for your dps to go steadily down until you hit 85, as your crit, haste, and mastery plunges.

Glad to hear mobs get more challenging as they level. I've deliberately left a couple of my hunters in quest greens and blues for a bit of a challenge starting out.One of my fondest memories of BC was running out of Honor Hold and my pet almost dying to the first hellboar I went after, heh heh. It was a "Holy Crap I have to pay attention" moment I enjoyed. My black dragonscale set wasn't as hot as I thought.

My hunter is turning 80 this weekend, so this is actually good news. If mobs were tuned for the folks who're decked out in epics, it could be extremely difficult for those of us in WotLK greens.

I think Ronin is on the right track there. If things weren't pretty easy at level 80/81, they would chew up people fresh to 80 from now on. They're easy now because you're running around in T9s, T10s, etc -- at this point most 80s are using gear about 100 item levels above what people arrive fresh at level 80 with. Cata content needs to be accessible to the fresh 80s, or everyone would need to hang around Northrend for a year at 80 before advancing into Cata.
