I haven't seen a blue post saying that, but if you've got a link I'll amend the article. But considering the nature of the Northern Stranglethorn questline, it would seem very odd for the pet to turn into a drop. I'm still leveling the worgen rogue to try to resolve this.

"The Seeker" has not been updated and continues to require 3,000 quests.
