The Queue: Minimums

Is that Raz or Rossi? I can't tell.
CrossEyed asked:
Is there any reason to do all of the pre-Cataclysm quest chains on all my characters at this point? Or even my main and my highest alt? Like, do we know if we'll get some achievement or reward for going through it all or not?
Not really. The chains are cool though, and they're worth your time if you want to pocket around 150g and read a good story. I personally did them on the druid I was leveling at the time and got a fair amount of XP.
If you kill each type of rift, you also get a feat of strength, Tripping the Rifts, for your efforts.
The Raven asked:
You said Hyjal and Vashj'ir have a required minimum level of 80. Can you not access the zone until 80, or the zone is way hard for a level 79?
As cutaia pointed out, the quests won't be offered to anyone below level 80. You can still fly over the zone, etc. ... but no quests.
Teyaous asked:
Is the Argent Tournament still going to be going on in Cataclysm? Will there still be a reason to do it?
The Argent Tournament will continue to run during Cataclysm. I suspect that some people will continue to run it, mainly to get the pets, mounts, and other unique rewards. It might be hard or impossible to find a group to kill the level 80 elite, but at 85, you really should be able to kill that on your own ...

Just a heads up on the WotLK dailies including the Argent ones, the exp has been lowered way down and as thus, so has the ammount of gold rewarded for lvl 80's at the moment. For those that might not believe, here's the proof: http://i.imgur.com/PSb1u.jpg

from what I read on the forums what has been disabled is the exp to gold conversion for lvl 80s, some guy did the quest on his 79 and got the normal amount of gold and xp. no clue if this is a bug or intentional to foil plans for quickly turning in 25 quests on the 7th.
Hal Nov 18th 2010 1:15PM
Hm . . . someone had said in another thread that daily rewards were being diminished. Which is, frankly, an odd course as far as I'm concerned. I understand the idea of wanting to pull back the economy to some degree or another, but daily quests aren't exactly the problem there. People become overly wealthy in game from working the AH or buying gold, not from running daily quests. (Woo hoo! 150g a day! Now if I just do that for a month, I'll make what that other guy gets in an hour of AH dealings. Yay!)
So bizarre.

I was planning on doing 25 dailies on December 6th to get a nice free jump in experience by turning them in the next day. I wonder if this is a temporary change to offset that kind of thing...
ANeM Nov 18th 2010 1:24PM
@Hal
Even if they increased the amount given by dailies that would only inflate the amount bought online or earned via AH trickery.
Asaron Nov 18th 2010 1:26PM
@Cutaia
You wait 2 years for some fresh levelling content, and then try to skip it by running (of all things) argent tournament dailies? I'm surprised, you didn't strike me as a "race to world first" kinda guy!
Asaron Nov 18th 2010 1:30PM
Oh and more on topic, the gold that gets moved around the auction house or bought (moved from hacked accounts) all gets generated and enters into the economy from something as basic as questing and loot. Reducing the rewards from those things will certainly hit the economy. You might find your friendly "Hello friend Best price gold for you now 10% free" guy raising his prices...
Drakkenfyre Nov 18th 2010 1:40PM
cutaia, that's kind of the reason these don't give as much gold anymore.
They lowered the amount of exp it gives, to prevent people from doing that. Less exp = less gold.
They did the same thing in Burning Crusade.
bill.erhard Nov 18th 2010 1:49PM
The rewards for dailies has been lowered so that players will gravitate towards normal quests and specifically new Cataclysm quests for experience and gold. This happened with the level 70 dailies as well when Wrath came out.
(cutaia) Nov 18th 2010 1:34PM
Asaron,
Nah, you misunderstand my intentions. I'll still be going through every single quest in the Cataclysm zones, but my hope is that by hitting 85 sooner in the process than later, those Twilight Highlands quests will reward some nice extra gold instead of experience. ;)
DaShiVa01 Nov 18th 2010 1:42PM
This is done not to foil people handing in 25 dailies on the 7th, but, if anything, to facilitate it. Without this change, handing the dailies would give you all teh gold, and none of the exp. With this change, gold is lowered, but you get the exp, which is what you want come expansion, right?
That is assuming that the change actually is the removal of exp->gold conversion. I'd assume that that conversion would be based off ability to get the exp, so that those who don't buy the expansion still get their 'just' rewards for completing the level 80 quests, but those who can use the exp get it instead of extra gold.

@Cutaia I figured out quest logs would be wiped clean to clear out anyone's old quests that no longer exist. If not, that's actually not a bad idea. =D I still have the level 60 quest "The Alliance Need More Purple Lotus" on an Alt because someone shared it in WG. lol
JoeHelfrich Nov 18th 2010 1:52PM
This same thing happened to the Isle quests when Wrath replaced Burning Crusade.
See, when you hit max level, XP converts to gold at a constant rate. For the sake of making the math easy, lets say 1000 XP = 1GP. That gold is added to the normal completing the quest gold reward. So, say a quest normally rewards 5 gold and 5000 XP--at max level you get 10 gold for finishing that.
But now the expansion comes out, and it takes a lot more experience to get to the next levels, because Blizzard doesn't want people using old world content (like say, level 80 daily quests) to let them coast through the leveling process. So they also buff the rewards on the new quest content. So let's say a level 80+ daily rewards 10 gold and 50,000 xp (because they don't want the economy to inflate as much as the XP bars did). If they don't change the constant that converts XP to gold, at level 85, that quest gives you 510 gold instead of, say, 20.
Could they put in different constants for different tiers of content? Sure, but it provides another point of failure (imagine someone used the wrong constant on one quest hub with 10 quests in it--if it takes Bliz even a couple hours to respond to the issue once it goes live, that's a lot of money) and it provides an incentive for people to keep doing old world content when they want them to be doing new stuff.

"I still have the level 60 quest "The Alliance Need More Purple Lotus" on an Alt because someone shared it in WG. lol"
Haha...I have that on my main for the same reason (at least it stops me from seeing it shared every battle). I also have "The Only Song I Know" which requires Frozen Runes or something from Naxx40. :D I'll actually be a bit sad if they wipe quest logs cause I like holding on to those as souvenirs.

Okay, what I'm wondering is if it will be possible to gain the title 'the Argent Champion' in the future? I have a character who is exalted with the Argent Dawn, but that faction is vanishing i believe, while it is one half of the requirement for the title.. so if I get to exalted with the Argent Crusade after AD rep is gone, will I not get the title??
(cutaia) Nov 18th 2010 2:14PM
"I have a character who is exalted with the Argent Dawn, but that faction is vanishing i believe"
Honestly, I've never seen anything that confirms that. I think it's just that enough folks have asked, "Will Argent Dawn go away since the Argent Crusade is setting up in the Plaugelands?" that now people are starting to just assume that this is indeed the case and stating it as fact. I'd love to see a blue post either way on the matter so we can put it to rest.
If they did remove the ability to gain Argent Dawn rep, you would likely end up with a feat of strength for it, and possibly still be able to earn The Argent Crusader in feat of strength form, but again, I really don't think that it's going anywhere.
Llowe Nov 18th 2010 3:02PM
I'm inclined to believe you because you are, well, the great (cutaia), but I've heard all sorts of people claiming it will be vanishing so I hadn't really second-guessed it until now, but now I think of it I don't remember seeing any official confirmation of it. o_O anyone have any solid info on this?
Drakkenfyre Nov 18th 2010 4:25PM
Dashi, you are incorrect.
The quests award gold + exp. The amount of exp you would have gotten is converted into gold. When you are no longer at the level cap, you get the amount of gold you normally would.
Same thing happened to Quel'Danas. Rewards were halved, because you now get exp from them. However, from what I have read, even if you are level-capped, and don't buy the next expansion, you still only get half the gold, therefore they are nerfed.
The Dewd Nov 18th 2010 3:17PM
Only because it came up...
My rogue (who was my dps alt before my druid went feral in BC) still has either Jail Break! or the precursor to it in her log from I-can't-even-remember-how-long-ago. I just can't bring myself to drop the quest because I remember both the fun and the pain of doing that chain on more than one toon.
Are you guys saying I should take her to Wintergrasp and start sharing it? :)
Anteia Nov 18th 2010 3:15PM
But what about the people saying these gold reductions apply to REGULAR quests too in those areas? Because I was questing through Icecrown on my relatively new 80 and it kinda sucks when we still have at least a week (if not another week on top of that) till the shattering to be getting less gold when I'm max level and these quests aren't easy on my alt because she's in mostly leveling greens. That's sort of been my reason for coming in because I don't have anything else to do until the world breaks. She my Horde character and I don't have any others, so she's not 'rich' and being financed by my other characters. I haven't even bought epic flight for her.
I've been doing the Argent tourney on her too because she hasn't done it. There's a ton of reasons to still do the Argent Tournament after Cataclysm hits. Mounts, pets, titles ("of Thunderbluff", etc.) and even the squire pony will be useful for people leveling up in Cataclysm if you're not an engineer. It turns the squire/gruntling into a portable mailbox/bank/vendor for three minutes every four hours. It's not huge in that you won't ever run out of room, but I'm sure everyone has experienced the "Crap, I just got another full stack of ore/herbs/leather, and the nearest mailbox is way over there but I'm in the middle of a quest HERE and I'm officially out of room. " moment. It might not save you every time, but considering how easy it is to get the champion seals, I set out purposely on the character I plan on leveling through Cata first to get the bridle. When I'm bored, I'll go back and start working for pets I don't have yet or mounts. I'm frustrated with the gold change occurring now because while I expected it once we were actually able to receive exp or be 85 at level 80 dailies, I didn't expect it this early. I suppose I had already finished Skyguard/Ogrila/Netherwing on my main way before WOTLK hit so I didn't notice it if it happened early for that expansion too. :/
