I've been known to use PoM + Conjure Mana Gem for loooong boss fights (or when i forgot to conjure a new gem before a fight), especially back when i had the t7 2-pc. Why limit yourself to a mere 3 mana gems per fight? PoM will be off cd by the time you use your 3rd mana gem. If cataclysm is going to have long boss fights, gogo Pom + Conjure Mana Gem.

And if you take the Minor Glyph of Conjuring (which every arcane mage should), it costs less to cast than a single charge grants, making it even more viable to do so!
