Bad news: No race changes to new race/class combos until Dec. 7th

Quote:
Changing to the new race/class combos will also be available once Cataclysm is released on December 7th. There will be a period of time between the Shattering and the launch of Cataclysm where the new combos can be created but not changed into. As with everything, this could change.

So, while you will be able to create, let's say, a dwarf shaman or a tauren paladin just after the shattering, you will be unable to change an existing character into any of the new race/class combinations using the Race Change service until Cataclysm is released.
Should this structure at all change, we'll be sure to let you know. :)

Your source link fails, Mat. :)
It does take me to some great daily deals though! The new site seems to finally be going somewhere and it doesn't send us back here! :O

Paid Race Change to the new class combos will be available as soon as they are available to create (with the release of 4.0.3a)
This is an update to the previous expected functioning of this service. We're in the process of ensuring everyone here has this latest updated information, just know that this is what's now accurate. :)

well there goes my idea to change into a dwarf shammy before then. Guess I'm stuck with a space goat for a little longer.
Joe Perez Nov 22nd 2010 4:08PM
It's ok. I'm right there with you. But don't fear. The queue for race change shall tremble under the weight of awesome that is Dwarf Shaman come cata
Jeff Nov 22nd 2010 3:36PM
Gah! I was going to turn my druid into a troll.
Oh well, I can wait.
TobiasX Nov 22nd 2010 3:38PM
At first, from the picture provided, I thought this was somebody being silly and asking if they could turn their characters into Goblins or Worgen before Cataclysm is released.
That would make perfect sense. This doesn't.
Not being able to change a character from 1 class / race combo available to everyone who has the game into another class / race combo available to everyone who has the game is stupid. I can't think of a way to sensibly justify this decision. If anything, they just delayed getting money from all the people who intend to change an existing character into one of the newly available races. Sure, they'll get the money eventually, but why make people wait?

I have to think it's for technical reasons. If they updated their race-change system now to accommodate the new combinations for old races, they would just have to update it again in two weeks to accommodate the new races. Why bother doing all of the necessary work for a system that will only be in place for two weeks?
Budokan Nov 22nd 2010 4:18PM
My thoughts exactly.
Jake Nov 22nd 2010 8:08PM
It would have to be a weird technical reason, because the race transfers on the PTR work just fine.
This is what I see happening. Lots of people (myself included) expected to be able to do this tomorrow. The patch notes do not indicate it can't happen and the ability to create the new combos infer that it could. This news is late coming, and will not be known by enough people in time. After hundreds of $25 exchanges are made, lots of players are going to be confused and pissed off. We'll see a hotfix within days.

Yeah... cause this is the most exciting part of Cataclysm... jeebus guys... don't you think some of you have better things to moan about? Or are you moaning for the sake of moaning and being a phallus? Come 7th of December Azeroth will burn, everything will change and we'll be on our route to face our strongest adversary yet and we're complaining about not being to change race/class before this? I feel sorry for ya when you realise how difficult it is going to be to play on the first day when everybody is logged on...

You know its already getting really annoying that theres two types of people that Q_Q.
One QQ about stuff. Others QQ that others QQ. You are one of the later. You are not any different.
Noone on the post has (yet) complained about this "crying for sake of crying".
They just asked or stated that "it is so" (they did promise that it would be allowed before)
but now blue said it is not so.
Yet you somehow assume that everyone in this blog or that thread is suddenly cry-babies. No, saying that cataclysm is messiah aint giving you get-out-of-jail card to get away for mocking people that actually dont exists.
And yes, I just ranted about people who QQ about QQ's. Bring on feathers and tar.

Just because you don't care, doesn't mean no one should. I wanted to race change a couple of alts before Cataclysm, too, and although it won't kill me to wait, it does upset me in a way. I don't see why it should be blocked until Cataclysm.
It is something I looked forward to, something that 'excites' me, in your words. I don't see why we should all be happy go lucky that we can't change yet and not mention it ever again.
Thatacus Nov 22nd 2010 3:57PM
I take it someone doesn't know what it feels like to be a Belf Pally.
Cephas Nov 22nd 2010 4:22PM
@Ice
When did they promise that it would be possible to race-change into the new combinations before Cataclysm? I only remember them saying that we would be able to roll the new combinations, and I don't think they ever stated that we would also be able to race-change into them.
Ste Nov 22nd 2010 4:22PM
QQing about QQing is the worst type of QQ.
Or is QQing about QQing about QQing?
Damn.
Ice Nov 22nd 2010 4:35PM
@Cephas
They said that Race change for new class combos would be allowed in 4.0.3 (that was suppos to be shattering patch not 4.0.3a yet) so before goblin and worgen ones.
I tried to find link to post of that but its hard to find anything in wowinsider search (it tried to show me "new alliance race is draenei" posts o_O)

Heaven forbid someone should be looking forward to a part of the game that you couldn't give a care less about. Just because YOU don't care, their feelings aren't suddenly invalid.

No, heaven forbid you have to wait a week longer to roll a Dwarf Shaman, a Troll Druid, or a Tauren Paladin. It is not like you're not getting the option at all, you simply have to wait until Cataclysm is released. Is that so much of a burden?
Xzavier Nov 22nd 2010 3:47PM
It has been stated that players changing races can activate the race change now and wait until the new race changes are open for transfer. You just leave the race change icon next to your toon on the character screen until you want to change. This however isn't available for players that are playing races that are the only ones available for that class until the new ones are open, ex: horde pallies, Druids, and ally shams.
