Blizzard: Never mind, you can race change to new race/class combos immediately after all

We know this is confusing, but this the real deal. Blizzard will let you change to something as awesome as a tauren paladin starting tomorrow.
The full blue statement is as follows:
Paid Race Change to the new class combos will be available as soon as they are available to create (with the release of 4.0.3a)
This is an update to the previous expected functioning of this service. We're in the process of ensuring everyone here has this latest updated information, just know that this is what's now accurate. :)

Note, you will not be able to race change to a goblin or worgen until after Cataclysm hits the live servers on Dec. 7 at 12:00 a.m. PST.

They're just torn on whether they're all ready for the massive influx of lame cow paladin puns.

And people thought I was crazy for holding on to the name DivineBovine...
...and by "people" I mean "no one" because I don't think I told anyone about it until just now.

Make it so.

Awesome, now if they'd just add in flight with 4.0.3a i'd be sound as a pound.
Vaeku Nov 22nd 2010 8:39PM
That would be pretty hard to do, as you'd have to have Cata installed. And the whole reason why they require it is they don't want people who don't have Cata to fly over the Cata-only zones.
But that makes me wonder, how will they prevent people from just waltzing into the new zones? I know Twilight Highlands and Hyjal have land entrances.

It's the same way if you try to go through the portals for Exodar/Ghostlands or take the Wrath zeppelins if you don't have the expansion. You instantly get ported back out.

Vaeku, a lot of the Cata zones are completely reachable by land or by swimming. I was on the PTR and thought "Hey, Uldum looks pretty reachable, I bet I can swim there!" So I did. I grabbed a water walking elixir, took the CoT portal in Dal, and ran over. I got there and I was like, "hmm, this is too ea-FUUUUUUUUUUU" as I got teleported over to the entrance of Uldum in Tanaris.

I feel like people confuse Installed with Registered. The WoW client is one continuous client nowdays. Even if you bought just the original WoW discs, you'd have the content for pretty much all the expansions. You just can't actually access them...
So they, in theory, could activate flying for 4.0.3a, but that would take away a bullet point on the back of the box...

vaeku, the thing is with that though is that i can use far sight to look around the cataclysm zones (which i have done recently on ptr and everything cataclysm is in place i might add). Therefore there is no reason not to just do the whole "if you get too close to the new zones, you'll get ported back" thing if you're on a flying mount as well.
That evidence i've just given shows that blizzard have decided not to add it just for the hell of it, making our lives that little harder to get aorund place for the next fortnight.

I wonder how I managed to duplicate comments *between* another comment.
I guess a wizard did it.
Knob Nov 22nd 2010 11:09PM
You understood you liked comments so you put a comment between a comment so you could comment while you made a comment.

Yo dawg, I heard you like comments...

The original position just didn't make sense. I'm glad to see the change.
Artificial Nov 22nd 2010 10:52PM
It wasn't a position so much as a miscommunication. Some bluish people had been told that the functionality on the system wouldn't be ready until Dec 7th. It wasn't like there was a policy reason to disallow it, they just thought it wasn't ready yet. Turns out, it is.

I guess listening to their fans/players and sometimes reversing unpopular stances is facepalm-worthy?
I feel like Blizzard should be given positive feedback for this about-face.
Hollow Leviathan Nov 22nd 2010 9:11PM
...Or your facepalm pic is just your default placeholder when you throw up breaking news. Either Or.
