Here's some pretty awesome news from the maven of all things hunter pet-related, Mania:
Chromaggus is tameable on the beta servers.
Chromaggus is a boss in
Blackwing Lair known for keeping healers on their toes with a variety of
debilitating debuffs, for making magic users curse his name thanks to a shifting resistance shield, and for dropping the
coolest-looking shoulder armor in the entire game. You need be a
beastmastery hunter to tame him, as he is a member of the exotic
Core Hound family. Not only is he a great pet for a nostalgic, old-world raider, he also has a very nice-looking, unique skin, and he'll be in high demand for certain raiding groups, as Core Hounds now provide
Ancestral Hysteria, a
Heroism replacement. For my own part, if he remains tameable when
Cataclysm goes live, I know I'll eventually be pulling my old hunter out of the mothballs and calling in a few favors.

It's intended. There's a dev lurking around on the wow-petopia forums who's been providing us hunters with most of what we wished for in the pet department. There's a thread there as well now with a pic of him when a fellow member met him.

They also had to change him from Dragonkin to a Beast. It's completely intentional, also for the reasons stated above my reply. ;)

It is an obvious teaser to get all hunters begging their guildies to run BWL, when they hit lvl60.
And it will work.

Except that to have enough talent points to tame him, a hunter will need to be lvl 69.
So expect to see a lot of level 70 hunters asking guildmates for BWL runs.

That is AMAZING. I've always thought it was a pity that Chromaggus' model never got to be seen outside of BWL. You can be sure I'll be taming him.

I saw him a few nights ago while doing the Shifting Sands intro, then remembered an article somewhere where hunters were whispering about catching him.
Oh god. Oh god yes. *punts Uvaros back into the fel pit and cleans that spot out of the stables*
And the best part is, he's purple (a theme, I has one). X3

You can in fact get a white core hound (sharing the model of Omen from the Lunar Festival); the Kurken is a level 13 elite (I think he's elite, could be wrong) in the furbolg den on Azuremyst Isle.
